It seams if you have something with the word boots on it. Women are going to find a way to accessorize that boot.
Upon reading that I realize that is an incredibly sexist thing to say, but I think I'm going to stand by that straw man.
Basically, it's just out of fashion now for men.
In a nut shell, and while it's sexist as hell. Any man in riding boots is either going to look silly, gay, or like a nazi. On women riding boots are considered sexy.
And yes I know those aren't riding boots, but all tall boots make you look like that.
Weird to worry about it now. They're actually incredibly restricting, and men's fashion has always leaned toward pragmatism.

its just that they're functional and meant to be worn under pants most of the time whereas for women boots are fashion and mean to be seen, ie worn outside of pants
They require you to wear tight ass hugging pants, that's why. Outside of horse cops, gender bending fashion models, nazi fetish porn or white power rallies, you just aren't going to see it. And a lot of people don't want to be associated with some of those things.

Yeah, the guy above isn't even wearing riding boots. They're just giant galoshes.
I think his velvet pants look kind of silly but if they were just regular brown slacks he'd look fine in my opinion.

See that already looks less risible than Diaper Bag earlier on the page. Forget the puzzled looks from other men about why his pants are tucked into his boots at the knee, that guy looks like he would appear well-dressed to women, and that's way more important.
This guy, on the other hand, is sporting some kind of half-assed Clockwork Orange costume. He's more on the cautionary tale side of things. And in fairness, there might not be much you could dress that particular model in without him looking creepy anyway.
So if we're going to try to make some fashion rules about this, maybe it's doable with a nice jacket that will soften the authoritarian look and make the boots look less out of place?
