I usually sell the tonics. Which one was it? You might be able to get 10e out of it if it was a decent common. More for the rarer.

The potion is an everlasting tonic. That's for sixth year presents. The value of them is entirely dependent on the particular one you got. Popular skins, like say, Kuunavang can go for upwards of 80 ecto. Unpopular ones, such as Acolyte Jin generally will only bring in 20k or so.

Long and short, they do have value, but they aren't directly good for earning points in the Hall of Monuments.

If you're curious about pricing, I always recommend looking it up on the Argos GwEstimator. That's an application that constantly tracks Kamada trade chat and makes it searchable, meaning you can see what people are offering/paying for items. There's also the Buy/Sell/Price Check forums over on guildwarsguru.com

Thank you, most awesome. I don't remember what they were; I'll check this evening. They were definitely only white items, though.

The asura part of EotN definitely ramps up the difficulty. The dinosaur packs are *murder* on any group that doesn't have strong builds.

The whole asura section can eat a dick.

Even without difficulty, it's a shitload of running. Except for Vekk, they're all assholes, too.

That's why they all must burn in Guild Wars 2.

So, I've been out of game for so long, I can't even begin to understand the market. I'm basically never finding an item rare enough to bother trying to sell it to other players, right? Should I just salvage everything and accumulate mats, or vendor?

There are some weapons that are rare, but you generally will find those only in dungeons or high level areas. It's the unique skin items that sell. For everywhere else, I generally just identify and sell, or salvage if I know the item has something I want in it. If you're unsure about an item, just use Argos Soft to determine if it's worth anything.

So help me out here: I think I want to play this game, but Steam is - to say the least - confusing in what I need. Assuming I want to play this in the most enjoyable way, do I just buy Nightfall and I'm good to go? Or do I need to buy the base game as well? And how does the latest expansion fit in all this? Do I only get the pretty graphics if I buy it?

Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall are all stand alone games, so you can just buy one of them. Nightfall, being the last full game is easily the best to play. IMO the graphics are pretty in all of them. Eye of the North is an expansion, which can be tied to any of the three games. It's more high level content and includes the Hall of Monuments which gives you bonus items for GW2, but in all honesty, I don't expect them to be any good.

Thank you. So you won't unlock anything for GW2 without EotN? Does that also mean that anything you can earn is from high-lev content?

The unlocks are essentially cosmetic (but do include weapons and armor). I think some of them are "good" in the sense that they look nice. As far as the item level, I'm not sure whether they will be high or low (I would guess low), but GW2 allows customization of weapons/armor to have high level stats with any cosmetic appearance.

You must have EotN to unlock stuff for GW2, and to play EotN you need at least one of the three stand-alone "chapters". Of the three chapters, Nightfall is the best (it was the last, and so the devs had refined things by then), and also gives access to a number of companion characters (EotN also has companion characters).

"High-level content" is a bit of an odd term for GW. Quite a bit of the stuff required for unlocks is at least moderately challenging, though there are a number of things which earn you HoM points from normal play.

Right, I think I'll just buy Nightfall and see if I'm enjoying myself first. Thanks for the info. :)

Yeah, it was really slow for me too.

And I'll yell when I get my account back, it's been years since I played so I'll probably roll a new mans anyway. We can smash skulls together!

Levels in GW don't go past 20, so there is no "high level content". Some of the later missions in Nightfall and Eye of the North are hard as hell to solo, though. Especially if you don't have good hero builds. You should be able to find people to help though, and can always ask in the forums if you're not in an active guild.

Nightfall is pretty much mandatory if you want to play solo, as it has the most heroes.

Echo Echo Echo *headshake* Nightfall is the best expansion as you get to be a dervish.

Now if only it didn't take half an hour to load one map I might actually be able to figure out if I like this game. So far it seems like I'm the only character playing this game, but I suppose there's a central hub somewhere with more people.

If you just wanna hit 20, Factions. Once you get off the island, get to Eye of the North ASAP even if you aren't 20. Look for Kilroy Stonekin in Gunnar's Hold, and do the repeatable fisticuffs solo mission with him. You'll hit 20 in no time.

Also, xposting from the other Guild Wars thread:

Don't forget if you've got a new account, you're entitled to 50 free tournament reward points. This is important, because you can exchange those points for Zaishen keys, which are worth a pretty penny. Just go to the Temple of Balthazar, and talk to High Priest Zhang.

Then you can talk to Tolkano, and exchange 5 at a time for a Zaishen key. Zaishen keys easily sell for between 5.5 and 6k per key, which can be a big boost of money right at the start of an account's life.

You can also hang onto the keys if you want to, and are planning on going for the Zaishen Supporter title for your hall of monuments. It takes 200 keys for the title.
