Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Giant Bomb: Great King Caravella won't leave you indifferent. So that just happened.

You proved my point though. And hey- a bunch of folks bitching about stuff on the internet is not unprecedented.

The game itself has been getting some good reviews, but I'm waiting on the quick look to see what it's like.
And making the top image of Worth Reading my desktop was the correct decision.
And you missed a key word there in your bolding: scope. People complaining isn't new. But the sheer amount of negative feelings towards the ending, between the geese frothing at the mouth and those simply disappointed, is impressive. I'm not sure there has ever been this kind of a negative reaction to an ending in a video game, ever. Basically every place where you can find public expression about this is overwhelmingly negative. From forums like this one, to the social networks, to polls, to the whole charity thing, and so on. And it's not like "the Internet" is one big hive mind community. Even just comparing, say, the community at PA and the one at Bioware's forums, you'll find a lot of differences in what the general attitudes and popular opinions are. Yet every single place you look, the amount of people who did not like the ending dwarfs the amount who do. It is significant.
You can acknowledge that a high percentage of people are unhappy with it without saying that EVERYONE is. There are people who liked it and have their reasons for it, and they have as valid a voice as anyone. But to act like the people who disliked it are just a small handful of loud people is pretty dishonest. It's an unpopular ending. We don't need to be in denial of that. Bioware wouldn't be taking steps to placate fans if this was an ignorable minority.
Personally I don't make any demands of Bioware. I would like to at least see the current ending get some clarification to fill the plot holes, but whatever they do or don't do, I'll accept. I'm just annoyed to see certain journalists who should know better do a poor job representing the arguments they disagree with.
I really do think that it's still a very vocal minority of people that are doing the complaining. It just so happens that the portion of people on internet forums tend to take part in the mob mentality.
But really, I don't mind people not liking the ending, so I don't know why I'm tending to be defensive about it. It just bothers me that people don't see the precedent of trying to force a developer to change the ending of their work of fiction.

When people are "shouted down," it's almost always because they are being condescending.
I say "almost always" 'cuz I'm sure as hell not gonna argue that the Mass Effect thread is always totally sane and reasonable.
But there's absolutely nothing wrong with people saying they didn't like it, why they didn't like it, and that they'd like to see something done with it. And nothing wrong with Bioware deciding to do something about it if they feel like they want to give their fans a better experience.
Honestly I think the people who are being doomsayers about artistic integrity are probably jumping the gun. It's likely that if they do anything about it, it will be an expanded/improved version of the ending that's already there. And we see that kind of thing in entertainment all the time. I doubt they're going to straight up make a new ending. I guess we'll see.

But the amount of votes the Bioware poll got is fairly impressive, a decent percentage of the estimated buyers with a 90% negative response. (And the game hasn't been out that long, many players will not have reached the end yet.) Certainly almost nowhere have people risen up and defended the quality of the ending. The only thing that is happening is people discussing what, if anything, Bioware should be doing, and what exactly they were trying to say with the ending.
Edit: also, its like Nintendo made a game with Nippon Ichi's writers.

what game are you referring to?
that would be cool if true though!
I've never seen nippon ichi but during the Kid Icarus quick look a classic boss appears and Pit goes 'oh you mean this guy?' and his old sprite is shown. This 3-headed dragon then bickers with itself at lightning speed with each head having a different accent.
The dialogue in general seemed rather tounge in cheek (and there is a lot of it), both of which aren't super common in Nintendo games.
That...actually sounds pretty in line with Nippon Ichi, yeah. Neat!

He wasn't paying attention and wasn't giving good info on what was happening. It was a perfect storm of what I don't want in a QL.

It is a pretty intense game and there is some information that you have to figure out on you're own, like the fact that you need to have two AR cards have the arrows on the bottom of their card pointing at each other to have them fight.

sure the 3d adds to the overall experience of whatever you happen to be playing but not by much.
you can play a 3ds and never turn the 3d on once and it will still be a great experience.
