I just realized that this LP has now been going on for a year. Granted, I didn't steal it until May 2011, but holy crap.

Man, can't believe I'd totally forgotten about this lp. You're doing good work, Piotyr.

Now I feel like I need to go back and read through the thread again. I only missed, uh... 3 and a half games...

Also, thanks to everyone for the comments. I'll keep this thing trucking and keep trying to make it entertaining.

Pretty soon, I'm going to have to see if I'll be able to get QFG 5 running, since it's not DOS compatible.

There's a few fan patches that make 5 playable on newer machines. Although there is a Quicktime problem that could make it impossible to finish, sadly. I never found a way around that one

Ok, so the fan patches are here: http://www.sierrahelp.com/Games/QuestForGlory/QfG5Help.html

However, by chance I happened to stumble on a suggested fix to my problem, by using this fan installer. It's labeled experimental, but at first blush, it seems to work perfectly fine. It looks like it's mainly meant so you don't need the cd in to play, but it's got the fan patches in already, and I guess it must alter the Quicktime codex a bit to make it work on modern machines

Wow, she is really whipping him right in the dick.

I never got this far in this game because it was buggy as shit when I used to play it. Farthest I remember was trying to kill the wraith in the swamp which was moving at fucking lightning speed when it didn't just crash the game outright.

Yup, I never made it this far either. I'm not sure if it was the bugs, or just that my computer wasn't up to speed. I remember the battles being soooooo slow because my computer couldn't handle it.

Voices added for Set 64. I also added (even more) Katrina dialogue that was pertinent to the plot going forward.

    Jennifer Hale is awesome.

It's main problem now is that the graphics have not aged well, since they're 3D rather than hand-drawn.

Well, that and if you cast Hide you can just murder everything while invisible.

QFG5 isn't completely terrible, no. More terribly disappointing after the 4th game. The problems I have with it are:

    - Early era 3D graphics didn't age well at all, characters look stiff and lifeless.
    - It's not an adventure game with RPG elements, it's an RPG with adventure elements.
    - The puzzle-style game play typical with the wizard is almost completely tossed out the window.
    - Too many nostalgia call-backs to past games with character cameos. I mean, they threw everything into it.

Oh, quite literally, since the studio closed immediately after its completion. It just ended up being quite busy with largely extraneous characters.

It wasn't near the travesty of KQ: Mask of Eternity, though.

EDIT: But again, I'm getting ahead of myself. There are still two QFG4 sets to complete!

One set too late, but I'm shocked Jim didn't comment on Katrina's, um, dominatrix costume change.

I mean, she wakes up, hauls him back into the dungeon, then feels the need to slip into something else just to tickle him with some leather? Sounds like love to me...

Well, the trick is that the end sequence takes perfect timing, since the game was timed to the processor clock speed. So if things got out of sync even once, you became unable to complete the final action to end the game. Fortunately, as long as you have it saved right after the Heart Ritual (where I ended the last set), you can keep trying from there, and it doesn't take too long.

Now, since QFG5 has so many throwbacks to the previous games, before I go forward, I'm going to go back and make sure all my images for all the sets are correct and loading. I'm not sure how long that'll take, or if I'll get mind-numbingly bored in the process, but that's the plan right now.
