The paneling, though, I believe is my fault. Leslie tries to draw exactly as I write, but she's given me some guidelines to prevent from writing 12-panel pages like I used to do for the first two chapters of BN. And because I literally don't know how to write creative paneling in my scripts, it tends to fall into the six panel format. We've been trying to get more creative and try different styles of writing, but we've fallen into a pattern here and it's really tough to get out. The most we ever do is extend the length of some panels. It's our top priority on things to fix.

Maybe you should just write out the conversation without the panelling and let her figure out how that's gonna work. It worked for those dudes in Bakuman and then they got good enough to almost beat their main rival and I'm gonna stop now.

Ehh, the shading could fit the line art more. The colouring and shading in the past few strips has been a lot softer than I think fits with the line art, which is very straightforward and clean, especially when coupled with the character designs. It works in some panels, but it just feels too soft for most of the others. Being a bit more bold with the colouring and shading might be better in my opinion. It's good that you guys are experimenting, though, Bossking. I just feel like the colouring could support the lines more, since it often sort of obscures it with this softer style of shading and colouring.

The paneling also feels like it restrains the action, I think. Especially in this page you have Ash gesticulate wildly, but the panel totally restricts her movements and reduces the impact they could have. Again, it comes down to the panels not really fitting with the character designs and line art. The designs are great for more cartoony, expressive stuff, but if all your panels are just rectangles of various sizes you miss out on some really cool stuff you can do with it. You might want to try changing their size and position depending on how important they are. You guys actually did this much earlier in the comic's run so I'm guessing that this was a recent change to make things easier to print? Or something like that, anyway. The pages shrank a lot, and that's totally fine and udnerstandable, but that doesn't mean you can't do interesting things with panels anymore.

Again, it's good to see you guys experimenting and not just trying to stick to one way of doing things, I'd just thought I'd give you some advice as a fellow comicker.

Thanks, Spectre. Leslie has been trying to refine her shading and try all sorts of different ways, so it's totally fine if you think we can do better. We think the same way. And I think that's a fine suggestion and I definitely want to bring that up to her.

Leslie tries to draw exactly as I write, but she's given me some guidelines to prevent from writing 12-panel pages like I used to do for the first two chapters of BN. Lets use a more flamboyant example of making a paneling mistake.
    cad-20120328-d2f00.png
The first 3 panels promote the idea of a circle of blame, yet the panels do not flow in a circle and force your eyes to jump to continue the joke. That jump from one end to the other breaks the flow of the comic and makes it harder to digest.

You don't have this problem but like Specter said, not showing the full view of her does impede the narrative slightly. On the other hand, you guys frame your subjects much better and have better colors, framing the story and making it stand out more. I love you guys so much.

Well there was a 4th panel where he, GnT, and Kris were all sort of having a writing pow-wow, and at the end of that he decided he needed to change things up by firing Cole permanently. But that was like a year ago and I thought he'd forgotten about it until this arc came around, and I dunno if it's relevant anymore.

@JayKaos Yeah, I was wondering what happened to that, and when I saw he was actually going with that arc, I got kind of excited about it.

Then he fired Duck within ten strips and made everything okay again, which seems like the wrong direction to take this, at least right away.

Also, I feel like I should clarify.

Scott writes great things when he does not try to keep himself in check, as proven by the Blams.

When he tries to keep himself in check, however, his writing seems to take the occasional hit, often at odd intervals, which is proven by a couple of the PvP arcs.

I guess what I'm saying is, Scott needs to do PvP Gone Wild.

EDIT: Scott Kurtz hates me now, doesn't he?

As great is it is when it comes to panel layouts and overall flow, it strikes me as something that would be amazing in motion if the style was kept mostly the same.

    you got to understant
Kurtz loves to leave plots unresolved to wrap them up years later so some arcs leave a lot to be desired, also he is writting them in mind that new readers will come, so he drops subplots and important characters are forgotten just leaving a small cast in his soap opera web sitcom
