Rise of the Guardians, formerly titled The Guardians of Childhood, is an upcoming 3D computer-animated epic adventure film which will be based on William Joyce's The Guardians of Childhood book series.[2] It will be produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures, and is set for release on November 21, 2012.[3] The film stars Chris Pine, Isla Fisher, Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin, Jude Law and Dakota Goyo. It is being directed by Peter Ramsey and co-directed by Joyce,[4] the creator of Rolie Polie Olie and Disney's 2007 film Meet the Robinsons. The film is being described as "a contemporary fairytale based on existing fairytale characters".

Chris Pine as Jack Frost
Isla Fisher as Tooth (Tooth Fairy)
Hugh Jackman as E. Aster Bunnymund (Easter Bunny)
Alec Baldwin as Nicholas St. North (Santa Claus)
Jude Law as Pitch, the Nightmare King (The Boogeyman)
Dakota Goyo as Jamie

so this looks pretty fucking cool

I think they went with the recognizable characters for the trailer since it is a funky concept

Jack is meant to be the main/PoV character that brings the team together from what I've read and since I can't find anything about someone voicing the Sandman and he doesn't speak a word in the trailer I think he might be mute. What with the whole sleeping thing.

Also the Man in the Moon is a figure there

    It definitely seems interesting

    This looks okay

Pixar films about the wonder of childhood never interest me that much

on the other hand, can't doubt that cast and I do like attempts to use mythology and magic beliefs in a modern way

seems like this might be something Neil Gaiman or Alan Moore would write

so yeah, might check it out if it ticks those boxes

    Ah, it's dreamworks. Fair enough.

Toy Story and Monsters Inc are about taking elements of childhood and exploring them quite deeply

and the idea of being a child allows access to a state of wonder and fantasy

How to Train your Dragon was actually a dreamworks film and it also had themes about the wonder of children (in that only a child could be so trusting as to accept the idea of the Dragons as allies and friends, not enemies)

anyway, films about the wonder of childhood are not really my thing anyway, but as I said, this does long interesting in a Gaiman inspired kind of way

That had nothing to do with Hiccup being a child or particularly trusting and everything to do with him being unusually thoughtful, observant and empathetic.

    This movie looks amazing.

Also if you say bad stuff about pixar on these forums you are gonna have a fight on your hands.

I was not expecting anything good from How to Train your Dragon and then it was amazing!

Before that I thought dreamworks was just kind of shitty overall. But that regained my trust in them. Now I'm hoping this is going to be as good.

Also I do not think how to train your dragon had anything to do with child something whatever.

    I dunno

there is often an element in stories about children being unusually thoughtful, observant and empathetic

generally it's the empathetic and thoughtful parts which are linked to the idealism of youth

but anyway, it did seem to me when I watched How To Train Your Dragon that it was certainly a story about children and their nature and the relationship they have with adults and that included elements of children being more naive and willing to trust than adults. If we consider that Hiccup was unable to kill his dragon because he had not yet seen them kill enough of his friends to destroy any empathy for them, then his youth does factor in.

Anyway, that whole area doesn't interest me much and it seems to be something that this movie will look at

but like I said, from a fantasy/fairy tale perspective it seems like it could be fun and the Voice Acting is likely to be superb so who knows. I wasn't that blown away by the trailer and I'm unlikely to go and see it in the cinema but maybe if people whose opinions I often agree with on the forums like it I will check it out.

the australian and inexplicably badass easter bunny is second only to the ridiculously pretty sandman when it comes to character design

when was the last time someone focused on the 'sand' part of sandman rather than the kind of creepy nature of his job!
