so my main file server took a dump this afternoon right before I was supposed to get off work. Think the embedded controller (that controlled the C: array) blew up. Fuck.

That reminds me that I haven't backed up my office computer since last summer. I should really get on that. But the semester is almost over, and I'll get a much more complete backup if I wait until it is...

Depressed tonight. Maybe I'll watch Captain America.

    American jingoism makes you happy?

It wasn't that jingoistic, and it even acknowledged Cap's status as a propaganda tool.

The only thing that annoyed me on that front was how the recruitment video had Cap marching alongside a black soldier even though the army was still segregated at that time.

Yes, historical accuracy is why that annoyed you.

    /knowing wink

I'd be fine with simply not mentioning segregation in an action film that just happens to be set in that time period, but somehow I just don't think it's morally correct to outright contradict the reality of America's past treatment of black men and women.

I get the same feeling when I watch Gone With The Wind and see a version of the South where slaves were sassy, upbeat, and allowed to work reasonable hours. I could stomach it if the slaves weren't shown at all, but don't make our country look better by pretending that they were actually happy to be there.

how many people typically win for a 'normal' jackpot amount? how many more people play during the larger jackpot?

It's not just the number of people, too. It's the number of tickets purchased. During hyped jackpots, more people play, but also more people buy more than one ticket.

The "Match" numbers all come from the same pool of 1-56, while the "MegaBall/Powerball" come from a separate pool. It adds a separate knob to fine-tune the odds of winning without blowing up the original combination calculation.

Step #1: Hire someone who can tell you what to do with your winnings.

I...I see what she did there.

Yeah, as if it's just that easy.

You do realize you that no matter how simple pornos seem, they do still need an actual script, not to mention cameramen, grips, editors, and of course legal to make sure the government doesn't crawl up your ass, and not in a fun porn-y way. Do you know anything about any of that? I mean jeez Richy, have you put any practical thought into this whatsoever?

Your family members would be kidnapped for large ransoms within 24 hours of you receiving the novelty-sized check. Your cousin's finger would be mailed to you with a $5 million price tag tied to it.

Yes, but if you do have someone that you can trust with the cash that is also good with people cold-calling them all the time; a blind trust makes sure you don't hear from "long lost cousin earl, just looking you up".
