but I've been wondering for a while and this seems as good a place to ask as any:
why is there a ban on anime threads?
Because there is a history of them getting amazingly creepy and just super terrible.
gotta limit that shit to toku i'm telling you
toku and one piece are all you're allowed to talk about
because one piece fucking owns
one piece is one of those things I'd much rather just read the manga of
and maybe watch the episodes with sweet Zoro fight scenes
yeah one piece anime talk is verboten you gotta talk about the manga
the manga owns
i'm buying it for my reread, i have up to...31 now, and i'm getting 32-34 from my nerd store soon
but i've only read to 28 so i'm smack in the middle of skypeia and it draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaags
skypeia is indeed super boring but also has the best payoff during the last fight with lightning guy and luffy the rubber man
enelface is the best moment in one piece
because it's the first time the bad guy realizes what the audience knew all along:
luffy's coming
and he's going to kick the living shit out of you asshole

yeah I always knew Dichotomy had a rep for bad opinions but I've never seen a Real Live Bad Opinion from him like this
If you guys liked Big O, you should definitely check out the Giant Robo OVA, it was made by a lot of the same people PLUS the director of G Gundam (so it's basically fantastic)
Techi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki is the original OVA series, split into three parts, the first two are good, the third suffers from trying to do too much in a small amount of episodes.
Tenchi Universe is alright, but didn't have the charm of the OVA series. Though the Time & Space adventure episodes are among my favorites of the entire multiverse.
Tenchi In Tokyo.. isn't good.
Magical Girl Pretty Sammy I haven't seen, but I understand to be a good Magical Girl Parody.
GXP is a spin off of the OVA series and I haven't seen it either. Has a cross over with the third ova series in one episode.
Well I mean, ZZ never made it to the states in any form iirc.
F91 is very good, though.
Unicorn is pretty, but otherwise just okay.
I watch way more mecha animethan is healthy.
yes this is me
I have a lot of investment in the UC universe and while sure the themes aren't too far from what's to be expected from Gundam, the writing is just really engaging and touch on some new things to help flesh out the world as it stands in the series' present as well as the past, like the first Spacenoid migration. For the most part the characters are nuanced and not like caricatures or rehashes of old archetypes. It's a love letter to the fans and a clarification on everything that UC Gundam is about and everything just feels fresh and exciting, in my opinion it's the best Gundam in decades.
To be quite honest, my favorite UC anything is 0083.
I just...do not like Banagher. I need to go back and rewatch what's been released of Unicorn back to back. Because as it stands, all the characters are super forgettable to me.
You wanna talk about Eureka seveN? Or Evangelion? RahXephon? Gun X Sword? Escaflowne? COME AT ME, BRO
i dont know i was like 7 when this came out but im still pretty certain its a fucked up series
I can't remember it too well either but it's like
Kind of a catastrophic future where lots of the earth is flooded
And there's some mad scientist with a whole bunch of genetically engineered marine human hybrids at war with the remains of humanity
I think
I just remember it being pretty bleak and looking lovely

Opinions on all of the gundams. Well, the ones that have aired in the states at least.
Wing - Kinda awesome when you're 14. The dumbest fucking thing ever when you're an adult.
G Gundam - Somewhat different. Kinda dumb coming from the SERIOUS BUSINESS that was Wing. As an adult, its still dumb, but also AWESOME.
00 - First season is legitimately one of the better alternate universe shows. Second season just kinda ignores everything that made S1 good. The movie is.. uhh.. We don't talk about the movie.
Original - Dated look is kinda hard to get past. Some dumb/awesome designs, too. Still one of the best shows.
0080 - The kid is kinda annoying, but if you're not bawling at the end you have no soul. Also: refer to avatar.
0083 - Very pretty. The main characters are fucking horrible, though. Retcons the shit out of the timeline in a bad way, too.
08th MS Team - Also very pretty, really fun, and just fucking solid for all 11 episodes. Yep. 11 episodes.
SEED - Hm. The original but with even angstier, prettier teenagers. Not, that great, but not awful either, and it has some fun characters who frankly deserved better shows (Mwu). Fucking full of stock animation.
SEED Destiny- (ノಥ益ಥ)ノ ┻━┻
I concur with you for the most part, here are opinions on more gundams
Original: The movie compilations remain my favorite anime. Ever. Of all time. Over everything else. That said,
Zeta: This is the best Gundam series. Nuff said. The movie trilogy is worth checking out for the gorgeous new animation, but they changed the ending to make it not as good/not as depressing.
ZZ: Haven't actually seen it, don't really plan to. Worth checking out if you really like UC, I suppose.
Char's Counterattack: One of Gundam's highlights, a must-watch.
F91: It holds a special place in my heart but it's basically a series that got crammed into a movie.
Turn A: Regarded as Tomino's best, amazing design work by Syd Mead and soundtrack by Yoko Kanno, bu enhhehhhh I found it kind of problematic.
MS Igloo: Nice visuals if you get a hardon for robots like I do, otherwise pretty formulaic/not great
finally,
Unicorn (Gundam UC): HOLY FUCKING SHIT WATCH THIS RIGHT THE FUCK NOW
Well I mean, ZZ never made it to the states in any form iirc.
F91 is very good, though.
Unicorn is pretty, but otherwise just okay.
I watch way more mecha animethan is healthy.
I've only seen like a quarter of Turn A, but I think just entirely on aesthetic grounds its one of my favorites. I only really stopped because they announced an NA release. Now I need to get back to it now that said release has been cancelled.
I haven't seen F91, but I've read Crossbone, which is pretty good, if tainted by some really fucking awful fanservice.
ZZ I hear is overall pretty awful, and has some pretty low lows, but when its good its actually pretty damn good. Its just too bad those parts are like maybe a fifth of the series.
Victory is apparently an over-dark, kinda ridiculous mess thats salvaged by having a really good protagonist and some pretty creative fight scenes.
the MSG movies plus Zeta are pretty much the high water mark of the franchise, though.
That said, I haven't really watched anything mecha more recent than, uhh... Macross Frontier?

GXP is fun in so much as it shows off the setting a bunch. But it doesn't have a lot going for it in interesting characters or storylines. It's also a harem anime in the worst possible ways, with a really awful, awful ending.

some may say it was inevitable
@Dichotomy bro, you are now king of bad opinions
I have zero urge to spend that much money on something that costs so much and is printed so cheaply
eight bucks a volume is goddamn extortion
not to mention the rate they put them out at is shamefully slow
Range Murata's art so much

we're just about at parity now, it's basically a couple months to a year post-japanese release for new volumes
but that means there's a new one every three months or so, which is the same as the japanese release! so it's not bad
also it's ten bucks once you get to a certain point
but they're 4-for-3 on amazon which amkes me less sad
something about

i dont know i was like 7 when this came out but im still pretty certain its a fucked up series

hail King Dichotomy
ok
it's so great
the manga plays it completely straight
it drops no hints whatsoever about what would happen if enel attacked luffy with lightning
none
you start to think that maybe the writer just doesn't know about electricity and rubber
but nope, he brings it home in the best possible way
like i said
amazon offers all but a couple at 4-for-3
so it doesn't hurt AS bad
i order a stack at once to take advantage of it
edit: v61 (the beginning of part two) came out this month in the states, japan just got 65 in february
so yeah we're about a year behind, total, but we still get one every three months or so
wandering has bad opinions?

but that pissed off guy over there is gonna stomp his shit

you know your opinion's the only one that matters!
