The first season of Mitchell and Webb is the best season.

Do people ever say "Man, season X was better than season one!"

Like, it never seems to happen.

Season 2 of Avatar and whenever it is that Star Trek TNG grows the beard.

    breaking bad also

    lots of shows

    comedies lots of comedies definitely

Parks & Rec definitely sticks out in my mind as a comedy with a poor first season, but extremely awesome subsequent seasons.

oh yeah parks and rec for sure, the first season i was like ehhhhhhhhh and then it became so good

Man the second season of Avatar is good. I woke up at 7 this morning and watched three more episodes. I am contemplating watching more on my iPhone at work but that wouldn't be...ethical.

People say the same about Babylon 5.

    And Farscape.

Farscape actually has absolutely amazing character development over the show, considering its reliance on muppets.

I am hankering for space in general. I have this secret desire to play some space table top type game, but that kind of stuff is only fun if friends are into it and you're all painting little ships and stuff.

And sometimes not even then. God damn Starfleet battles.

There's no living with a killing. There's no goin' back from one. Right or wrong, it's a brand... a brand sticks. There's no goin' back. Now you run on home to your mother and tell her... tell her everything's alright. And there aren't any more guns in the valley.

Did I ever tell you how Adelaide advertised itself in the UK? There were a series of adverts on Spotify that had some poor guy getting interrupted during sex by his mum. A nice Australian man then said his mum couldn't but in on him if he went to uni in Adelaide.

It was great in that "it's not your parents' house" is the only pro they could think of. When an overwhelming number of students move out of the family home to go to uni even if they stay in the same city.

Yes, for example, the first season of The simpson's wasn't so good.

    God yes, American Dad!

the first season was just like an extended Family Guy episode that made fun of Republicans...

... then they took those stupid plot shackles off the characters and let them all be crazy in their own way, and it is glorious now.

All of Europe has uniformly bad commercials... or at least those are the only ones we hear about here in America.

The recent "AIDS is like having sex with Hitler" ad from Germany comes to mind.

Actually I will say X-Files didn't hit its stride till after its first season. Sci-fi in general takes a season or two to take off. SG-1 was silly and meh at first and then became a great show. I would say that season 2 of SGU was amazing while season 1 was a resounding meh.

The surprise real-life pregnancy of Scully set them in motion to actually create continuity in that show, and it is the best thing that ever happened to it.

The first season of SG-1? You mean when it was on Showtime and had full-frontal nudity? The show itself was mediocre then but certainly not silly.

No it was pretty silly. But then it hit its stride and became one of the best pulp sci-fi show on TV. Richard J. Anderson does know how to build a cast of characters.

    I've never watched Farscape.

To be honest, I have only watched three TV space dramas to completion:

    1) ST: TNG
    2) Firefly
    3) New BSG
