Cygnar should totally release a Warcaster Initiate Corps unit. They have a shared focus pool and are SO new at Warcastering all they can do with it is camp it for armor and spend it to boost/buy attacks with.

That's our fuckin' Multiwound unit right there.

Mechanically wonky, but the idea is pretty goddamn cool.

I would even say they can control a Warjack. Fuck Jack 'Marshaling. Unit leader runs a battlegroup!

Justification for this? Desperate times call for desperate measures. War is picking up in size and scope. Maybe the gift of Warcasting is evolving, and people are starting to manifest it in a minor form like this. Or something.

Bollocks. I think I'm done tweaking my Lock & Load Hardcore list, but my latest iteration means I'm painting up a full new unit of Wolves of Orboros + UA. Filigree and Cloaks and Spears and Cloth and Armor, whoot...

Careful with that! Standing your caster next to something that's easy to hit tends to get them hit by AoE's!

    Awesome sequence of the day:
Playing Vindictus (Menoth) vs Old Witch (Khador). A Vassal Mechanik makes his way over to a Repenter who is locked in combat with some IFP. Succeeds his Repair check and fixes some Cortex boxes. Vindictus Sacrifical Lamb's a Zealot to give jacks, including the now fixed Repenter, a focus each. A Vigilant moves up to one of the two IFP engaging the Repenter, picks him up and two-hand-throws him into the other IFP, killing both. The now free Repenter moves and flames a bunch of WGRC and Old Witch, who thought she was safe hiding in a forest. The initial hit and subsequent fire hit take her down to 2 boxes.

Second awesome sequence of the day:
An Allegiant in Shifting Sands essentially circumnavigates the board, after making two Tough rolls to avoid getting killed by Kayazy (an oddity, Perfect Balance prevents CMAs and Backstrikes but does nothing against Gang). Along the way, he survives (and moves due to misses from) shots from WGRC, another Kayazy, Black Ivan, and some Battle Mechanics, as well as a swing from the Old Witch herself. He then kicks Old Witch in the face to end the game.

I freaking love Vindictus. True Path is so amazingly good for Menoth, it's amazing that people really overlooked him for so long.

His problem is a sub-par feat and nothing fancy outside of Defender's Ward and True Path. I like him, but he is definitely one of the weaker casters in the faction.

That said, I'ma play the shit out of him for an upcoming local league. Cinerators, too. B|
Edit: Also them's some badass moments, tzeentch.

  • tzeentchlingtzeentchling Dr. Doctor Oakland, CARegistered User regular
Yeah, but Vindictus also has near-immunity to shooting due to Sacrificial Pawn: Zealots, plus decent defensive stats at 15/16, which can't be said for most of our casters outside the Feoras. He hard counters Snipe-Feat-Go (between his stats, Feat, and the Zealot mini-feat) and ranged assassination runs in general. Since Ret is actually a decent part of my meta, I've been finding it invaluable. His feat is somewhat subpar, but in general the factions that it will hurt, it seriously hurts. Technically he can create difficult terrain with Rift, though I've never cast it myself.

In SR2012, when you need your caster up the board to claim objectives, he is quite useful.

I'm not sold. My meta is a bunch of controlling, grindy lists, Legion/Circle beast attrition and bricks. The ranged game doesn't do so well around here. We have a bunch of new players, though, so this league may bring some of that into the meta. I'm mostly gonna play Vindictus, The Testament and the High Reclaimer due to the low level of the players coming into the game in this league. No one likes like losing over and over to Kreoss1 and Severius1, after all.

  • tzeentchlingtzeentchling Dr. Doctor Oakland, CARegistered User regular
Play Vindictus solo-spam. Gravus, 2 KE Seneschals, maybe 2 Allegiants, Vilmon and 2 Paladins, maybe Nicia. Legion/Circle beast lists don't like weaponmasters to the face, especially weaponmasters with Mat 8.

  • admanbadmanb the bored genie Seattle, WARegistered User regular
To be fair, if you're already taking Seneschals, Paladins, and Nicia you've almost run out of two point solos that are objectively better than the Allegiant.

Which is ironic, because all of those but the regular Paladins are 3 points, and without Vilmon I'd certainly take Allegiants over Paladins. Allegiants are good with Vindi, because True Path makes them Move 9 while still stancing. That's faster than some infantry can run. Also I guess if you have nothing better you can put Defender's Ward on them for Def 19 fun.

But they hit like a limp dick, and my Paladins will be Impervious Wall-ing for days at SPD 8. I'll take immunity to most attacks and a P+S 14 weapon master.

  • tzeentchlingtzeentchling Dr. Doctor Oakland, CARegistered User regular
They hit as hard as Errants, and with two attacks! Okay, it's not a PS14 swing, but with Vindictus Allegiants are takeable. Somewhat with Harby too. Otherwise, yeah, they stay on the shelf.

Quick question, about to order some new models, do I need to buy a faction deck or will the models come with MKII faction cards? Bit unclear about this after researching.

    steam_sig.png
  • ChrysisChrysis Registered User regular
The models will come with cards, but if they're old stock they may be MKI cards rather than MKII. By now though I would expect the old stock to all be dealt with and would be pretty sure it'd be MK2 cards.

And if you order something and it comes with the wrong card most places will send you a new card from what I've heard.

  • NisiNisi Registered User regular
Awesome, not gonna worry about the faction deck then. Just joined a journeyman league and played some games tonight with my Cryx battle group. Gonna add a Skarlock and unit of Mechanithralls next week. I am going to have so many new models to assemble and paint.

    That....

Well, I think my second faction (wanted it to be Hordes anyway for new mechanics) has been settled.

    Good god.

Edit: oh, almost forgot. I've been listening to the Muse on Minis podcast while walking to class and whatnot. It's pretty good stuff! However, I'm noticing that they basically never, ever talk about Khador (outside of one episode where they did their newbie section for Khador and had to bring an outside guy in). While general stuff is cool, faction specific stuff is nice too, but it just seems like none of them play Khador. So, do you guys know of any podcast with the caveat that there be at least one Khador player on it?

If big trolls that look like all of the smaller trolls is your thing, I guess that is good news.

Just for fun I'm going to post up the size comparison I saw on the PP forum.
    KingMaulerCompare2.png

These new super models are going to be pretty sweet to see on the table. If they're as carefully balanced as the battle engines were this will be fantastic for the game.

The Skorne one might be, but other than that I think mostly people have been pretty impressed with the point:power ratio. My Storm Strider and Arcane Force Generator have both made strong showings, and I know from hard experience that the Circle Fulcrum business is no joke.

  • BlaqueBlaque Registered User
Yeah. The only ones that I think are "meh" are the Skorne and Cryx ones. Even then, the Cryx one is good with some casters (Skarre1, specifically) and the Skorne one isn't terrible with Hexeris2. The Storm Strider, Throne of Everblight, Vessal of Judgement and Celestial Fulcrum are pretty boss, though.

    And stuff.

  • SJSJ Registered User regular
The Skorne one is beyond 'meh,' it's basically unusable.

Got to play my first game against not one of my friends the other day. I ended up losing but had a fun time. I was running pButcher, WGIDS, Joe, Widowmakers + Marksman, a Mortar, a Kodiak, a Spriggan and a Wardog (I think that's everything). He was running eKreoss an Avatar, a Dervish, a Vigilant, 10 man Exampler w/ UA but no solo, 1 unit of Knights Errant, Garrus and the Piper of Ord.

Sacrosanct is rough, not entirely sure how to deal with it. I just decided to try to shoot down as many Exemplar as I could and just eat the knockdowns, tough rolls with no knockdown are annoying though. I read through all of his unit cards but I knew I wasn't going to remember everything, I was only going to learn by things throwing wrenches in my plans, and oh hell did the Avatar's gaze throw a giant wrench in my plans. I maybe could have killed the avatar a bit early in the game but I forgot to pop my feat (herp derp). Still, it was a pretty fun back and forth game that ended with both of our casters in base to base (and then I had the fun of going... wait, your caster has armor piercing? and I'm a medium based caster? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF).

The mortar has been consistently underperforming in my game. Now, admittedly I've been having no luck on deviations (my results tend to be 5 or 6 inches deviating directly backwards, I think he's killed as many of my own models as enemy models at this point). I'm considering dropping him to bump the Kodiak into Beast 09. Speed 4 no reach (especially because butcher has no speed boosts) is painful. Though, at that point I think the only pathfinder in my army is the widowmakers.

I firmly believe that the meh reception a lot of battle engines got has to do with their newness. Nobody was quite sure that to do with them for a while. I suspect that the Siege Adamantarax is suffering from this issue more than most. It seems like a great vanguard piece that would deal damage on the way in, be resistant to tar-pitting, and still be able to damage heavies. It won't be the best at any of those things, but it'll allow your specialists to advance unmolested and force your enemy to deal with a stonking great dinosaur in their way.

  • admanbadmanb the bored genie Seattle, WARegistered User regular
