Last segment dragged but wasn't terrible or anything. Brock did overuse the word "feel" a bit too much at the end though.

If they add the 'starring Brock Lesnar' this will one of my favorite angles ever aside from Lesnar forgetting his lines.

It'll be my favorite angle ever if every shot during the opening promos is a different one of Lesnar

Well besides the Yes chants, a ton of guys redebuted including Skip Sheffield aka Ryback, Damien Sandow aka Idol Stevens, Lord Tensai aka Albert, and Titus O'Neil/Darren Young from NXT.

That's why you should never let monster talk *cough* Brock & Kane *cough* and you should always let crazies on the mic *cough* R-Truth *cough*

Even this was more entertaining than Raw excluding Edge's Appearance & CM Punk/Jericho Segment

So after the dark match tonight, most of the roster came out to sing happy birthday to John Cena, including Vince Mcmahon and Triple H.

A couple of videos from WWE here.

Hopefully the whole segment goes up sometime soon, it was pretty neat!!

    Things good about tonight's Raw:

    -Edge
    -Punk
    -Kofi/Jericho
-Nikki/Beth (Other than the Kayfabe injury, it was the 1st diva's match I've bought into in a long time)
    -Kane
    -Paul Bearer
    -MAH BOI DEE-BRY
-Ryder/Santino Tag Team (Please keep this, pleasepleaseplease)
    -Funkasaurus
    -Ziggler

    Things bad about tonight's Raw:

-Brock Lesnar (His character is just a dick, and not in the fun Ziggler sense or the over the top Jericho sense. He is also obviously a witch as he appeared to have gone cleanly over Hogan, which is a scientific impossibility last I checked)
-Cody getting crushed again (Hoping this leads to a win at Extreme Rules though)
-R-Truth still not on the mike, and squashed by Lord Hentai.
-WWE's continuing success in making me want Cena to win.

Seriously, with this whole "John Cena must win" thing how many walls are they going to break. I mean they're well through the 4th wall by now but we know the wall's kayfabe so really they've constructed a 5th wall out of thin plaster that they're busting through. Edge was terrific.

I feel like they needed 1 more week or a crazy good video package to really drive home the Cena/Brock showdown.

I honestly can't call the out come of the match. I can't call the outcome because basically I can't see Brock losing but I can't see where Cena (or more specifically Cena's fans) go if Cena loses.
A year and a half ago they were chanting "Never Give Up" as he was fired by Nexus, now he's lost two Wrestlemania's in a row including one to a man who last wrestled regularly when many of Cena's fans and merchandise buyers were learning to walk.

Nikki Bella's win was scheduled to happen for several weeks. The ankle injury to Beth Phoenix was storyline. It was a way to get the title off Phoenix so Kharma can get the title without ever beating Phoenix. Or at least that was the plan when Nikki Bella was planned to get the title.

    Well, dang.

I mean, good for Beth, but wasn't she just shy of setting the record for the longest Diva's Title reign? I think she's deserving of that accolade, and hate to see it cut short.

Also, if WWE's goal is to make me somehow, someway, hate Brock Lesnar more than I already did, they are succeeding in the worst way possible. That worst way? Giving the overhyped, overvalued jackass a microphone and airing clips of him talking repeatedly.

I think they're very purposely trying to make Brock someone for the fans someone to hate. Their top monkeymaking face, Cena, has just not been going over so well, especially since The Rock came in and made him look, well, like a jabroni. I think they really shot themselves in the foot with that one, but they knew Rock had drawing power, so they just let it go where it went. Yeah, they got a huge buy for WM out of it, but now Rock takes off again and they're left with even more people hating Cena than before, and dammit, they gotta sell some t-shirts. So they gotta make Brock into Super #1 Captain Asshole so that even with the smark hate for Cena, they have finally got someone that won't be cheered for over Cena, so they can start bringing him around to being more profitable again.

The problem I see (or have, to be exact) is it's "bad heat". Getting a guy hated because he is, clearly, HORRIBLE on the mic and given way too much time on it is counter productive. It's X-Pac/Vickie(who, admittedly, eventually turned that into "good heat") heat, aka: I do not want to watch/listen to this person, let me change the channel/fast-forward/not buy this PPV heat.

I don't know, though, if this is how everyone is reacting to it or just people like myself who came in going "Yeah, why is everyone excited for this neanderthal with a bully complex coming back? Does no one remember how he left?"

And besides, it's a bad match for Cena to get him liked. The only time Cena comes off as really likable, with good promos and a strong storyline, is when he's matched up with guys who can cut good promos and have good charisma for Cena to play off of (Rock, Edge, CM Punk, etc.). When's he's up against guys who give him nothing to work with we just get increasing volUME PROMOS!, which does nothing to win over the "smarks".

There is no way and no point in Cena winnig over smarks, that ship has probably long since left harbor. He needs to go back into full on superhero face mode to get the kids and casuals back, and Brock is perfect for that. Or hell, any monster heel that's built up properly

Like Geebs said, making Brock and asshole is easy because in real life he IS an asshole. Better to just go with it instead of trying to pretend he's a good guy.

As for his mic skills, he's not great by any stretch but he's better served to do those backstage promos like last week. I think they did that segment last night just to pile on the fact that this isn't the Brock from 2002 and he knows his supposed self worth. Afterwards they'd best stick with the "Cena's pissing himself" type stuff because that seemed much more natural.

  • NiryaNirya Registered User regular
For the record, Brock was probably the first true heel in the UFC. People legit hated him and wanted to see him lose, especially when he won the title. So it's not that hard to see where this "Brock is a huge asshole" storyline is coming from.

But all Cena has is the WWE. He has to win at Extreme Rules, because he has nothing to go back to. The Brock left, and became an international superstar. He doesn't care about the WWE. Cena's not promoting a movie here, this is his life. Dwayne Lesnar has other things going on and has his people looking out for him.

Big difference; Rock at least acted like he wanted to come back and gave a very heartfelt speech after Mania expressing his love of the WWE and wanting to eventually return. And Rock/Cena was never about replacing Cena. Brock/Cena IS about wanting to replace Cena.

Yeah, no, I fully agree with that, sort of. At least from a kayfabe standpoint (because why would Rock ever want to actually be a major part of WWE when he's filthy fucking rich just being Dwayne).

I just feel like they are trotting out the same scripts from the last 6 months and switching lines around. I really was fine with bloody, ass-kicking Cena wanting to come out and brawl with Brock Lesnar. I don't really need a list of demands, and Edge reminding us that this is all Cena has.

Its sort of like the Punk/Jericho angle. They had me at "Who's the Best in the World", and sort of lost me with the alcoholism.

Just leave well enough alone and build things up with simple storylines if you are going to sell PPVs on name alone anyways.
