    no... alcohol...?

i'd be embarrassed to order alcohol at a chain restaurant.

    Why?

well ok let me go down the list

    1) the bartenders are almost always shit

    2) it's something you would do, which makes it inherently terrible

    3) drinking alcohol at a chain restaurant makes it sound a little too much like it's your neighborhood spot/bar where you go to have some drinks with 'the guys' and it's terrible imagery

No see you drink the alcohol so that you're better able to deal with the fact that you're eating at something they make fun of in South Park.

I like how $20 per plate is the standard sitdown cost of a meal, and it's quintuple that for catering at weddings and such. Gonna have my wedding at fucking Chuck-E-Cheese, fuck it.

$20 a plate is definitely more than any chain around here costs.

Would you mind doing a breakdown?
What would an Entree, soda, tax and tip cost?

Standard burger at local chain (BJ's is the one I picked) $8.50, soda I never get soda so I have no idea what they charge for it, let's say $2? So, $10.50, tax is 10%, lets assume 15% tip: ~$13.25

    What about fries?!

You should be able to get a burger and a side and a soda for $15-16 plus tax easy, just about anywhere.

I know this because I am the cheapest. My first six months in Seattle revolved largely around scouting out the best burger-per-dollar ratio in town.

  • LudiousLudious I just wanted a sandwich A temporally dislocated QuiznosRegistered User regular
Burgers are often cheaper than everything else on the menu for cheapos like Quizzy. You could say the same thing for Outback but it would be disingenous to label their pricing at anything other than the $20 range.

I wouldn't be if I hadn't had such historically bad experiences getting alcohol at them.

I once only tipped 7% at a Red Robin because they brought me a fucking awful margarita (tasted like straight triple sec), and kept trying to bring me another one even though I explicitly told them I didn't want another one.

    I was pretty pissed.

Expensive restaurants that I have eaten at:

That $20-a-plate vegetarian restaurant in San Fransisco (wasn't crazy about the food)
That $20-a-plate vegan place in New York (delicious!)

Uh, that is the normal amount of money I spend when I eat out at regular places in Iowa.

    That ain't expensive, dogg.
Well I don't eat meat and I wasn't including appetizers, side dishes, drink, tax or tip. I was just talking about the listed price of one entree.

and it was more like $24 really

Chain restaurant quality, yeah. The online menu may be slightly out of date, maybe the burger is a $1 more. But still that puts it at closer to $15, still far from $20.

But also, here is your standard for chain restaurants we make fun of; the olive garden.

    Chicken Parm dinner - $14.50
1 glass of house red wine - $5.00

No appetizer, no dessert, tax and tip push you up to 25-27 dollars.

I am actually trying to figure out how someone could actually split an appetizer, have a main course, and have dessert at a chain place.
