    The problem isn't memes in general (though still should be avoided in formal comics. forum stuff is different). It's those rage faces from subreddit F7U12

    I even did a few rage face comics and put them in my blog because I used to find them funny. But I wouldn't use them for an official update, even then.

    maybe it's just because i've been reading about copyright philosophy for the past few weeks but i bet proponents of collaborative creativity theories would put memes in the same category as things like jazz, blues, rap/sampling, magic, culinary arts, fashion, etc. because they're all based on processes of copying, mixing, and remixing to produce personal expression

    But mixing and matching is basically all I do.



    My "creative process", as it were, is a very simple flowchart:
    1. See something.
    2. Be reminded of something else.
    3. Jam 'em together with paste and twine.

    it's like, direct copying and reusing

    a counter example would be stand-up comedy where even a little bit of similarity between jokes is frowned upon

    I'm not sure if my problems with rage faces is actually about the reuse of artwork or format, since dinosaur comics is completely structured around that

    it's mainly that the stories in them aren't particularly interesting to begin with, the format encourages pretty short captions, and the situations are usually the fairly mundane experiences of the author

    so the entire thing relies on the humor value of the artwork to make a punchline

    but that stopped amusing me after the first time I saw it
