One of the best episodes of the series. The final scene was exactly what I expect from these kinds of shows. Good stuff.

Loved that episode. Abed had the perfect Lenny Brisco coat and loved that they had Troy as Logan instead of Green. When they got the doc for the autopsy I was loosing it.

Man, everything about that episode was perfect. The camera shooting was spot on Law and Order, the dialog, the sound editing, all perfect.

Does anyone think that the Law & Order opening was partly an homage to fan edits of the title sequence?

I wonder if part of the filming process for this episode was having Danny play all the parts off camera, and then the other actors trying to imitate.

I know I am an episode behind. But I always wondered this myself. On Stargate SG-1 as a pulp sci-fi show they did body switches all the time, and all the actors were excellent at it. like creepy accurate. All 4 of the main cast were just beyond words hilariously awesome at it. I could see them taping the scene twice, one with the original actor so the person pretending could study and repeat it.

As somebody who watched a lot of Law and Order back when it was airing 23 hours a day on TNT I could not stop laughing while watching this episode. Shirley as Lt. Van Buren I think was the highlight of the episode (though my love for Jack McCoy makes Jeff as Jack McCoy a close second).

    Also the episode tag

That was truly great. Possibly a favourite. Although I'm surprised they didn't have a cameo from Munch, putting Community into the mind of Tommy Westphall (http://home.vicnet.net.au/~kwgow/crossovers.html)

Between Comm/Unity and 30 Rock Live, NBC just aired an example hour of the very best scripted comedy can offer.

And like 76 people watched it.

    No justice, no peace.

For me the episode was a little off. Troy and Abed where obviously just playing around, which made their interactions with Annie and Jeff, who were supposedly playing it straight, odd. I still really enjoyed it, but it felt uneven.

Something about the character and the actor really works.

I find it interesting that Community has become a parody show and a tribute/homage show. It certainly didn't start out that way. But it seems like so many of the episodes are a mockery and/or tribute to another show or genre. And it works.

Season 1 of Community was good. In fact, it had a very strong season 1. But the show has come a long way from season 1 in terms of the average content found in its episodes. The show is supposed to be about a community college, but this comes up so rarely anymore that sometimes I forget that's what its even about. Until last night's episode, I had completely forgotten that they were taking biology this semester.

I don't think the show is as good as it was in season one specifically because it's all about parody and meta. The best parts are when its about the characters, not the characters acting out whatever movie Dan Harmon watched this weekend.

Though I think the show should end with Abed staring at a snowglobe of Greendale.

In Season 1 the show just had awesome funny moments.

But if you can't keep that up, parody works, which is what Season 2 went with in the first half. It's certainly a lot better then trying to force character stuff.

Well yeah, that's why I still like the show.

I just liked season one the best and tire of metaness fairly quickly.

I'd say it's half and half, parody/character. The Blade episode was pretty low on parody, the Dreamatorium was weird but not really much parody other than the Spacetime stuff.

I appreciate that even when they do parody, they keep going with the character stuff/main story. The zombie episode and all the themed episodes actually happened; it's never a "wouldn't it be weird if life was like a musical? imagination/dream sequence..." type deal.

Season One was the best, because it walked the line between regular and meta. It indulged in episodes like Modern Warfare (which was genious) and Contemporary American Poultry (or something like that? the Mafia one. which was not so genious), but was mostly about community college with a twist.

Season Two was slightly wilder, but even Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas (which I found weird until the final act) was explained, and explored Abed's character (the same reason I would defend last week's outing).

It's strange, because it usually takes a show to find its identity, but I feel like Season One feels much more hit than miss, whereas Season Three so far has been a toss-up. It's smart. Community will always be smart, because its writers are smart. But what they are doing with it is questionable. It's just too much, I think. This episode showcases that nicely. There's this episode early on in Season One, where Jeff defends Britta, who cheated on a Spanish test. The court is a pool area. The scenario was weird, but the entire process was tied well into its Community college "mythology" and explored its characters. Basic Lupine Urology was, once again, just pretty self-indulgent. Again, well written, I'm sure with a plethora of very smart references thrown in (never watched a single Law and Order episode), but not tied to anything relevant within the show itself. Instead of investigating who these characters are, we have this weird Law and Order scenario, and within this weird scenario, this weird Todd scenario. Encompassing that was the biology teacher who is kinda detached and critical of the shenanigans but also not.

You know, sometimes it's fine to just be a fucking comedy series.

I didn't intend to go on for so long, but I guess I just liked Season One too much to not complain a bit about the recent turn of events. And anyway, with the ratings Community is getting, I wouldn't bet on a renewal.

Edit: Ah, I almost forgot. And, of course, we have the obligatory Britta bash (her only two seconds this episode). Cannot for the life of me imagine why they changed her character into something so pathetic.
