Well, mythbusters wasn't really arguing the idea of a death laser at all, they were showing that you couldn't do it with the technology back then, which'd just be polished brass or a bunch of small mirrors manually adjusted
And even with that thing (which is awesome) it's range is still only a couple of feet, so it's still not setting any fleets on fire
