I saw at Best Buy that there is a Supernatural anime?

Anyone watch it? Is it any good?

I don't know anyone who's seen it, besides my nieces.

    They didn't give rave reviews.

the anime is just retellings of old episodes for the most part

and there are a couple eps on the season six dvd/blu-ray

    either way, it's bad

The anime seems around average. Sam kinda looks like the real deal, and they got Jared to voice him in the english dub.

Dean looks like a generic anime character and has a different VA.

Seems like it'd be a fun watch for someone who hasn't seen the live action series, but it doesn't seem like they're trying to do anything the show didn't do. So I wouldn't bother with it.

The suicidal teddy is the best addition to any show.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
  • The Lovely BastardThe Lovely Bastard Registered User regular
i honestly wish, for a one-off joke episode, for them to be haunted by vengeful spirits of people who died on their watch

including the ghost of the teddy
but they already did that one

For awhile I noticed season 4 wasn't really scary at all. I made this comment right before the episode with the

it wouldnt have even been that bad if that guy wasnt the second minority character and first major black male character in all the 30 episodes so far! but nope, supernatural has a seriously creepy b-movie thing going on re: attractive white women and that combined with dean going crazy means that the only significant black man is seen mostly chasing after screaming, innocent white women who need to be rescued by white men. the scene where they leave the guy tied to a chair, punch him and then say theyll call for help in a 'couple of days' was just, hwat, hwat are you even

and even ignoring all the really insensitive racial undertones i never got so much of a 'crazy bastard' vibe as a 'slightly more fucked up dean' vibe, which made them demonizing him really annoying and eye-rolly

  • mensch-o-maticmensch-o-matic Registered User regular
im on season 2 and yeah i actually forgot about one black char (the stereotypical psychic lady) which bring it up toooooo 3? black characters with more than 4 lines

i am super forgiving of the racist ghost truck because god, racist ghost truck

though im side-eyeing this new love interest who is way more boring than the lady dean said he was in love with and will probably NEVER see again

  • mensch-o-maticmensch-o-matic Registered User regular
probably a big problem is that i am analyzing a cw show instead of laughing wryly at it but they set the standards kind of high sometimes you know!!

  • mensch-o-maticmensch-o-matic Registered User regular

dean happily handed over the impala

    oh yeah definitely

    that was like damn
and it totally turned me against that character not remotely sympathetic for me ever ever after that

not to mention the fact that he was definitely a rapist

Is it still rape if you've convinced them they want to do it
    using telepathy?

Did they cover that in the Geneva convention?

a mind-controlling guy is first seen walking away from a hotel in a ridiculous outfit while an attractive lady waves at him from a window wearing lingerie

Yes I am. Though I do wonder how it would work from a purely legal standpoint. I doubt there are laws in place for that situation.

mind controlling someone into having sex with you is definitely rape

not to mention that his evil twin mentions that he does the same thing and that he knows they dont like it

Every reasonable reading of "consent" would mark it as legally wrong.

    oh ok

I'd imagine that pretty much the second you could prove that someone was doing that you could apply existing laws to it

I mean, date-rape is illegal, right?

Is it illegal to have sex with a drunk person who says yes if they say no when they are sober the next day?

I wasn't really paying attention to that episode, so I don't really care. I imagine that the writers approached it as wish fulfillment fantasy for a dude his age.
