The only time you look forward to moving out is if you have shitty roommates or are being dicked over by your landlord something fierce.

Moving is such a dang chore. Though that moment when you first move into a new place and everything is magical with optimism and possibilities...well, it's priceless.

For college dorms? Yes. Apartment style housing is becoming more popular for new college housing, but its not the norm. You also find rooms with "privacy walls" and those don't even fully divide the room.

After a four month stint in the middle of nowhere i have had enough and am moving back home. Got a friends couch to crash on and a decent chance at a job. If the job comes through im going to see about renting a small place on my own, ive kind of had my fill of roommates for a while.

    my house is crazy

today my landlord's suicidal son probably tried to kill himself again

and so landlord screamed up the stairs wanting to know if I know CPR

    (I do not)

meanwhile all eight of the dogs are going crazy

I went down there to give some advice (the 911 dispatcher told not-breathing-guy's brother that if his heart quit beating, to press down on his chest rhythmically to restart it, I told him that there's a certain rhythm to this, and that it's exactly the same as the Beegees' Stayin' Alive)

and also to round up the dogs and keep them in the kitchen

paramedics arrived and saved the day, fortunately

dude's in the hospital now, probably going to wind up being held for a few days

I've moving to an island for four months for a job! I am ridiculously excited! and giving myself insomnia thinking too much about every tiny detail, including what to pack etc. etc.

Conveniently the job has on-site housing which I'll be sharing with the rest of the staff, so that negated a lot of the logistical issues, but still, figuring out what to pack for a four month stay when it has to travel via ferry and then travel half a mile to the house on an island with no motor vehicles is kinda tricky.

Also I've never had a roommate before, so that'll be interesting.

I don't know if I've told this story here before or not.

When Amy and I were in college, still just dating, we were both still living at our respective homes during the summer, because we were in the dorms.

She was living with just her step-dad and he was pretty much an alcoholic asshole. He was emotionally and verbally abusive to her, and it wasn't getting any better for sure. There was finally one evening she called me in tears and without going into too much detail, there were basically all the signs that the abuse was going to soon turn physical. So the next day while he was at work, I borrowed my dad's truck, enlisted the help of my best friend down the street, and we packed up all her stuff and moved it to my parents' house. So when he came home, her entire room was cleared out and anything in storage that was hers was gone.

It caused some conflict for sure between him, us, and my parents, but they backed me up and she stayed with us from then on until we got our own apartment. I gotta tell ya, it was very tense the whole time we were moving her stuff into the truck because he did occasionally come home for lunch, but luckily not that day.

I did worry for a while if we handled the situation correctly and if there was another way we could have done it, but it wasn't too soon after that if I was to ask myself the question, would I do it again the same way, the answer was always: abso-fucking-lutely.

And to be 100% honest, for this assclown's sake, he's lucky it didn't turn into any sort of physical abuse. Dude has serious little-man syndrome and since this wasn't too long after high school, I still very close to the strongest and most in-shape I had ever been. Those of you who have met me in person and know me pretty well know that I am not by nature an easily angered person nor one who is eager for confrontation, physical or otherwise. I am very easy-going and it is very difficult to push my buttons. I have never been in a fight, and I've never even really hit a person. So I want you to take my full meaning when I say if he had laid a finger on her, I WOULD HAVE BROKEN THIS MOTHER FUCKER IN HALF

I've owned my own property for many years now, I live with my lady, 2 kids, 2 dogs, and a variety of birds and reptiles.

Some days I miss just having peace and quiet. Some days I miss not having a yard to worry about or plumbing to fix or all of that shit that you never have to worry about in a place you don't own. Petty shit like that.

Like I said, it isn't often, but sometimes.

Owning your own property is basically the tits.

You can't just up and decide to remodel your bathroom in an apartment. And you most definitely can't kick off renovations by putting a bomb in the toilet.

You can't wake up one morning and say, 'I need a hot tub'.

You can't do burnouts in the yard on dirtbikes.

You can't paint 'FUCK AIRPLANES' on your roof.
