[STEAM] Thread 3 - Rise of the Classy Crabs
Posts
I think they started shortly after the Christmas sale in '10. Could be remembering wrong though.
It's not a real thing they could be over right? Wouldn't there have been some sort of notice?
I haven't even played the first Risen yet but I'd still suggest the cheaper first game over the expensive new game, I liked the demo so I bought it on sale but didn't want to play it until I played the gothic games, playing gothic 1 now for the first time and loving it
I'd be all for no daily deals if it means we get better midweek and weekend deals, a lot of the daily deals are not exaclty brilliant
Is Telltale just bad with PC optimization? I had issues with Back to the Future as well. These games don't look particularly taxing, even though WD is significantly prettier by comparison.
Also pretty bummed they didn't get the actual actors from the TV series for some of the character cameos.

I hate it when I do that. Especially with my wheelchair.

DETAILED POST!!!!!!!
Okay so the first thing I noticed when loading this game was how good it looked, fucking gorgeous. Loads of foliage in this first map and the shadows were pretty. Then I got to playing it and wow, its gonna get frustrating really quick. After each shot of the sniper rifle, the character reloads. Well, not reloads, he does that thing where they pull the pin back and stuff, I wanna say 'cocks it' but not even sure if thats the correct term either. Anyway, this wouldn't be bad except for the fact that it pulls you out of the zoom view you're in meaning you don't get to see where your bullet hit. If you're playing on one of the harder difficulties, you're boned since you can't readjust your aim after a shot. You can, but its pointless since you don't know where to aim next, "did the last shot land too low? Too high? WHAT THE FU-AAAAAAAARGH" is the sorta thing you'll think.
On easy the zoomed in scope view has an extra red reticule that shows where your shot will land which makes it super easy to play. but the here's the thing, land ing a shot in easy isn't satisfying at all. There's no awesome animation for it, the guy will just fall backward.
I played some more of Sniper Elite 2 demo and I'm just gonna buy it because that demo level alone has lasted me over an hour.

Somebody kickstart this.

More sniper Elite 2 stuff!
Edit: or not. Screenshots are not allowed here so instead I'll stare at you from just outside your peripheral vision. Don't bother trying to catch me, I'm too quick.
alternatively, venture into the screenshot thread to view the carnage. Id link you to it but I'm on my phone and it is poop.

I only want people to pick up the game because it has co-op and dammit, I needs me an army of PAers!

I'll edit that post with a link if its possible on the phone.

Is it just the massive amount of painkillers I'm on, or is that a strange sentence?
Anybody that wants a massive RPG with tactical party-based combat and only a few niggling complaints should get it. It's only $10.
I cannot wait for the next one and I'm jealous that Mac users get it first

I'm only 45 minutes in, and could easily restart now that I understand combat a bit better. Any advice on how to build a good party? I really like being all powerful and destroying things so easily it might be called boring.
Happy crabby birfffday to you!
Well, for starters, you should have a dual wielding melee-only guy that you purely pump Strength into. Without a shield my tank got up to like 85% physical resist so a shield isn't necessary for your tank OR your damage guy. Give your tank at least 8 points of Priest Spells so he can learn Mass Heal and Unshackle Mind, and also to your mage. There are enough good swords to go with 2 dual-wielders (maybe even 3 but probably not 4). I didn't even find all the best gear and was happy with how gear turned out for my melee guys.
To get absolutely everything you need a total (across all 4 characters) of 14 cave lore and 12 tool use. I suggest putting 7 points of tool use on your priest, and having 2 characters take Nimble Fingers as their starting trait. You can get 2 tool use from equipment that you just throw on when you hit a trap or lock that's too hard for 9 skill. You can safely ignore cave lore if you don't care about the achievement, the stuff in the caches you find is kind of a bonus and mildly useful, nothing game-changing.
For my mage I did pure intelligence, while giving my priest a few points in endurance and the rest in intelligence. This is because the priest will learn Return Life, but not the tank or mage. If the priest dies you have to use a rare Return Life scroll to raise anybody during combat.
Go to Formello as soon as you can and learn the Icy Rain spell for your mage, it'll be your go-to for a long time.
Every character should have at least 10 Parry, 12 if you can spare the money/points. If you understand how skill distribution works this isn't hard at all. Level up to at least 8 melee weapons, buy up to 2 ranks from a trainer. Then you can get 10 Hardiness (3% damage reduction per level) and 10 Parry (3% chance to parry per level). In the two hardest fights in the game (imo) these two skills were absolutely essential, especially for the survival of my less-armored magic users.
Priest damage spells are really inefficient, so use them with care until you start to get priest levels on your tank and mage, because for the first part of the game you'll need that energy to heal. Later, when healing duties can be spread out, feel free to use priest damage spells. Call the Storm is more efficient than Smite when you hit 2+ targets with it. Then again, it deals cold damage which undead are immune to, so you sometimes have to smite even in big groups.
There are huge guide and strategy threads on Spiderweb's forums, and the community is really helpful. Check that out for more in-depth info.
OH and the forum has a thread of 'items to keep' because a lot of the mundane things you find laying about can be turned in as part of quests.
Food is unnecessary.
Last thing, put everything you're not going to use that has a value listed in its tooltip in your Junk Bag. In the inventory screen the Junk Bag can be accessed via the text between the 'on ground' and 'pack' areas. I don't know how much it holds but it's a ton. Don't sell ANYTHING until you hit level 8 with everyone and take the Negotiator trait, which gives you a total of +40% extra money from selling things. Money was the dearest resource in my game for most of it because of spell and training costs (there's almost no gear worth buying).
EDIT: I neglected Arcane Lore. Train 2 points of arcane lore at some point, and at level 12 have 3 people get the Sage Lore trait. Pretty sure that will get you all the rank 3 spells.

Origin is the exact same as my Steam, in case you're needing a Support or Assault in BF3.
If not, please let me know, i'm used to being kicked around.

General idea is to participate more on the social/gaming side. 16 posts is not exactly a lot. Become a part of the community and the invites will come.
But listening to Harvest explain a good party comp in Avernum makes me crave it much more now
I fear it was craziness from staying up till 5 am. That and the auto correct.

Of course, I bought Deus Ex for about $12 during a sale a few months ago and still haven't touched it. I never learn.
I captured a gobbo city pretty early and the voiceover for those units is just hilarious. Also they build wooden ships with rocket propulsion - how can you not love that!
Civ V for 8 buckeroos.
Says its steamworks- that mean I can just use the key in steam?
Is it worth that?

Had exactly the same effect on me!
Like @Big Isy
Yes and yes.
Weird? That's the natural order of the Steam thread.
@Harvest, stop making me crave a ninety hour game!
