Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

can I just say I'm tired of sweating at work

the restaurant is not air conditioned, we rely on the a/c out in the concourse to kind of float in with customers or something, I don't even know

the dining room is less hot than the barista area, but our area is like a little cubby that just traps heat

so I get to run around in 90 degree stagnant air all day

can't I just work in a nice cool office, whyyyyy did I drop out of school remind me of this again

Today I got told I'm no longer allowed to open the tills to change up money when I'm divvying up the tips at the end of a shift. I now have to ask one of my bosses to come and change it up. So after a year and a half of doing this with no issues, apparently I'm not trustworthy any more and have to get a responsible adult to do it for me. Fuck this noise.

That's really stupid. If we weren't allowed to do that it would be really obnoxious.

I wish I had more than 1 day off. Just worked 5 days and I feel like there's not enough time to get stuff done that I wanna get done tomorrow. 1 more month til my 12 day vacation. :(

I usually do it whenever I'm working. When I'm not working, someone else does it for the people on that shift.

My landlady told me money sometimes goes missing and while they don't think I'm making mistakes and/or stealing, they want to set the same rules for everybody.

Which logically, yes that makes sense. But practically, clearly they do think I'm making mistakes and/or stealing. Which is a really nice feeling when I've been here for so long.

I thought generally the longer you did something, the more confidence in your competence/trustworthiness would increase. Not here, apparently.

This job hunt is genuinely driving me to despair

Every single shitfucking job advert I read says experience is essential. Of which I have none.

I don't even know what the hell I got a degree for. It is literally worthless.

I can't see any way out of this. I have been ramming my head against a wall for three fucking years now and have nothing to show for it.

Jesus christ I just want this to end.

Sometimes a firing is good for both parties. She needs to know that her performance is unacceptable and either seek a different profession, re-motivate, or re-educate. Still, sucks. Hope her husband has good insurance.

I am assuming she has been notified of her poor performance prior to this.

  • StaleStale Registered User regular
It's more of a timing issue really.

I don't see this ending well for anyone. A lawsuit is a very real possibility.

  • ReginaldReginald Registered User regular
Oh. Sorry man. Business is business, I guess?

Maybe this will make you feel better: my first (and only), firing was for poor performance of an 50+ Asian lady. I was told by HR prior to the meeting that I needed to be very careful, because she was older, a minority, and female, so a discrimination lawsuit was probable.

I came into the meeting w/ like 40 pages of proof of unchanged poor performance, and her signed admission of conduct from prior meetings.

I fired her by sticking to the script, being utterly robotic. Turns out her husband is a labor lawyer, and she has been fired 7 times before. They make money off of this shit. I quit that job before the suit goes to trial, but it is settled for 6 figures, even though she deserved to be fired.

so what you're telling me is i need to marry a labor lawyer and intentionally be bad at things

No, we were setting up to start rolling monorail and the second bar through the mill got put in upside down and destroyed the brand new rolls that cost $texas

Then after that, while they were fixing the mills the furnace forgot to turn down the heat to compensate for the wait so a bunch of the billets fused together, costing more time and money

Keep flirting with the idea of going back to school for an MBA.

Part of me says "thats the only way youll advance and increase your salary over xx amount"

The other part of me says "dont waste your money on a fuckin piece of paper, also youve disliked nearly every mba holder youve ever met."

I mean, I make good money now.
