I thought this episode was ok.

I mean not great, but ok. And ok is good enough at the moment, because some of the episodes have fallen decidedly flat.

Also, frankly, I get Ted's opinions on doing nothing. I do nothing all the time. I'm in Perth at the moment doing nothing (admittedly there's nothing of any real excitement in Perth).

I'm hoping that some of the crazy nights from this episode will be referenced again in the future. Sort of like how the Goat kept making an appearance for like 3 years. The horse in the bar would be a good one to use. Or they could expand on the night Ted wore a green dress.

Well, Ted's green dress was expanding on a flash forward we got in a previous ep. A previous episode that had a big fight between Barney and Lilly ended with Ted walking in in a green dress. Barney had pulled Lily out of the path of a moving car, Lily said, "You saved us!" and then it's revealed that Lily is pregnant. The green dress was a story to be told later ... and now is the later!

    I really expected Robin
    Spoiler:
    would be a bigger deal.

They could have (and perhaps should have) focused the story on her this episode, rather than on Ted/Barney, and made their shenanigans the B-Plot instead of the other way around.

I don't think the comedy from that would have been anything special to talk about anyway. The way they did it was probably better. For a drama the helicopter landing would have been the way to go.

Why does this show take so many random breaks? I marathoned seasons 1-6 and watched most of 7 as it aired. Their new episode schedule is almost unbearable. I follow a number of sitcoms on a weekly basis -- Modern Family, Happy Endings, New Girl, Community, Big Bang Theory -- and none of those shows are even remotely as close to HIMYM in terms of space between episodes. Its ridiculous.

Well, they already aired episode 21 of the season so there seems to only be about 3 episodes left this season. I looked at the schedule for the last season and it actually seems about the same.

I can sympathize with Lucascraft. I never know if there is a new HIMYM. I just look at my DVR and see if it recorded something or not. It seems like it is so random.

I don't know, Community took a rather lengthy break recently.

That was hiatus. Since it came back, it's been aired on a weekly basis. HIMYM only seems to air every second week at random.

None of the shows you list are on Monday. If you look at the schedule for Castle and HIMYM they appear to mostly skip the same weeks at the end/beginning of the year so I'm assuming that something else is on that would cause ratings to tank, presumably some sport but I'm not sure.

I liked this episode except for the Ted Robin stuff. There are only so many episodes that can be about Ted getting over her.

I'm confused. Wasn't it just a couple of episodes ago that he told his kids 'that was the last time I saw Robin for a long time' .... and here she is?

or was that one of the 50 other Robin leaves moments?

    Here's my take/prediction:

Majority of the episode will be devoted to Marshall getting to the birth of his son/getting him sober.
Barney gets epiphany from Birth, proposes to Quinn.
Flash forward to Wedding, where Ted finishes his conversation with Barney and goes to see the Bride:

Robin has been completely irrelevant to the show ever since the most recent Ted/Robin break-up. They had to fucking crash her in a helicopter to make her relevant a couple weeks ago. And this week the real actual physical person of Robin was only in the episode for like 3 seconds when she got out of the cab. All the other appearances were just Ted's pathetic imaginings.

IMO its time to write Cobie Smulders off the show. Her character no longer serves a purpose.

Robins problem is that she has to marry Ted. They can dance around the issue and put in as many episodes as they want about her NOT marrying ted and how they don't like each other any more but Ted is 'our hero' and so the dream that he had at the beginning of the show needs to come true unless you can produce a truly amazing narrative ark why it should not. Every other potential partner has been obliterated from the show, and they refuse to use the options which their own story creates. As such, all that is left is Robin (I still can't believe they screwed up the baker coming back)

Didn't you see Jason Segel on the Daily Show?

The mother is a machine sent back in time to kill Ted. When Ted's kids look out the window they are greeted by a blackened hellscape where their mother, and those like her, stalk the land snuffing out every last vestige of organic life.

Seriously, Segel's ending for the show is probably better than what we will get.
