Help me get some of these damn blackheads off my nose.
I've been having issues with blackheads since I was a junior in high school, so... 7 years at this point. I've tried various things over the years, the latest being Biore strips, but nothing really works. The strips work well on the sides of my nose, but not so much the front and the tip. I've been cutting back on sweets and while that helps with general breakouts, nothing really works. I've heard drinking a lot of water can have a positive effect, but I'm waiting for when I'll have a few days where I can just be around the house and go to the bathroom at my leisure. Can anyone recommend a soap or something for sensitive skin, or something similar to the strips?
heres how i see it being a total win situation for you
1. stay with your wife while she dog sits. this wins husband points since she knows its out of your comfort zone
2. have sex all over her friends house so that the next time you see her friend look at you condescendingly, you can wink back knowing you did the freaky deaky where she eats her cheerios.

"If you don't know who Kendra is, I'm officially not speaking to you."
Seconded, also spend enough time cleansing the area. If you just slap some soap on and rinse it off you wont fix the problem.
Find a good skin cleanser (not bar soap) and and see what happens. If that's still not working, have you thought about going to a dermatologist? Not everyone has the same kind of skin and you just might have had a bad luck roll in the skin lottery. It might take a lot more (a visit with a professional) for you than for some people to have clear skin.
I should've mentioned that I've been using a Neutrogena exfoliating scrub every other day (more than that and my skin gets scaly... well, more scaly), and it works well for keeping the plain ol' zits in check. I'll try being a bit more thorough with my nose than with my forehead, see if that helps. I wish I could blame this on the work environment (pizza place, with a deep fryer for chicken) but this started way before that.
Esh, what would you guess a trip to a dermatologist would run? My work insurance is pretty bottom of the barrel, and may well have lapsed again, as I was scheduled under the hour cutoff, and between now and June and trips to a doctor would be entirely out of pocket.
For a consultation? Not much I imagine. Less than $100? Beyond that, it's cosmetic, so insurance isn't going to do much for you. You might also think about talking to some of the girls at say, the Clinique counter or something. They can probably help recommend something front their line. Something you can't buy at your local supermarket.
Mild exposure, of course. Too much and you're looking at far more serious issues than a blackhead or zit.

Skin is fucking annoying, sometimes. You just have to find the best possible place you can be with yours, and maintain that. Not many people have perfect skin, and even through tons of maintenance, some can just never achieve it.

There are probably masks and things that can get the bridge of your nose better. I'd recommend dermatologist though. do you have health insurance? sometimes it's covered.
I've had good success controlling nose and chin blackheads with a calamine based soap followed by an alcohol-free toner and good moisturizer, but my nose pores will always be gigantic (or at least it seems that way to me!)
-clean twice a day; benzoyl peroxide and/or salicylic acid may be helpful
-use topical retinoic acid every night before bed
Look at the medicinal ingredients of the store products to see what you can get that contains these.

These are AMAZING
Isn't there something like this, but instead of a strip, it's a liquid/lotion you put on that then hardens and you peel off? I vaguely remember using something like that at one point. Worked really well too.
For a quick fix, the hardening strips do what you are asking. Blackheads come out.
However, this is not a good idea. When you do this, your pores stay open and gather gunk anyhow. I've heard from several sources that this can actually make your original problem worse.
Plus, the empty pores are sometimes more obvious than the blackheads.
Maybe try using it once if the other stuff does not work? Afterwords, clean it religiously.
Yeah, been using those. May end up going back to them if other stuff irritates my skin. Keep the suggestions coming, guys.
I've had good luck with them, but only if I use it like every night.
Fit it into your shaving routine.
The lotion is the important part here. Dry skin can cause acne, and it can be caused by acne cleansers. It's a paradox. Lotion fixes it.
For about a year, I used a combination of this "Microdermabrasion" treatment and either Philosophy or Aveeno lotion. Its not exactly cheap, but the abrasion is crazy strong so a jar would last me about 6 months, I only did the treatment maybe once a week. I was doing it to help acne scars, but it also just took my acne way down.
Eventually I switched to the cheaper "Clinique 7 day Scrub", and use it way less, and use the mild cetaphil for daily cleaning. I use Aveeno with spf 14 for my face.
It may not work for you, but I went from crazy acne to manageable hormonal acne when I stopped using harsh acids on my face. I have pretty sensitive skin, so I was just abusing it.
