How do they justify that stance when compared to UMvC3? It's essentially a 1:1 port.

UMvC3 was not a 1:1 port, far from it. All the backgrounds were neutered severely, and lack almost all animation.

A better comparison seems to be SFvT, but I haven't played that one.
It is still more or less a very solid port, content wise it is all there graphically it is head and shoulders above the MK port, and it was a launch title, whereas the MK port came out months later. Yet the gross looking MK port is getting universally higher review scores, and it is a bit offensive.

Picked up P3P a few days ago. I have to agree with whoever said it... it took me a bit to get into it. The visual novel-esque interface is a bit weird. It seems much better suited to a touchscreen. The combat is damn fun, though.

Am I the only one who turned all the voices off? As seems to generally be the case for me, I can't stand the english voice actors. As soon as I turned the voices off, I started to actually like the characters. I wish there were a way to have the original Japanese dialog with english subtitles...

  • LockedOnTargetLockedOnTarget Registered User regular
I think the English dub is perfectly fine, barring a character here and there.

Yukari, Akihiko, Mitsuru, and especially Junpei do good jobs.

    I am with LockedOnTarget.

The English dub is fine, with one or two characters being not great. I do not see how anybody could actually have a problem with it.

Also MK is getting universally higher review scores because it is still a ton of content in a game, and plays perfectly well. The only downside is that the graphics are a bit worse.

But all of the important stuff is still intact

Heh, agree to disagree, I guess. I'm sure it's me. I've always hated every english dub I've ever heard in any anime.

it's not offensive because MK is a better game than UMvC3 in many's eyes. Especially the stellar single player story mode.

The only horribly voiced character in P3P was Fuuka. Otherwise, the dub was pretty solid.

Yeah as far as dubs go, the Persona 3 dub is one of the best. But if you hate all dubs, it's not going to do much for you.

Well I meant the numerous things mentioned over the last few pages were a bit offensive, the graphics coupled with the deceptive marketing and reviews, etc.

Oh God, this is just too good not to share. A friend of mine mentioned that he noticed my article linked on a MK fansite, so I decided to Google it and see what came up. Page after page or results, this thing was linked all over the place. While there were plenty of positive responses, a lot of them were quite the opposite. I'm not going to get into the litany of slack jawed, moronic, brain dead insults and accusations, but there are a couple of hilarious things I want to mention. Roughly 2 thirds of the sites and forums I came across thought it was an actual review, not just a commentary on the graphics, and then preceded to bitch about why I was only talking about them. Some sites thought I was blowing up the screenshots to purposefully make it look worse, ignoring that they were taken from the Vita screenshot feature and at native resolution (though yes I know it does look better shrunk down on the actual screen, that goes without saying). Some were were convinced that I was somehow lying and used the fact that cam footage and trailers looked better as their proof... About 50% thought I was an official writer for 1up and insulted me for it, while the other 50% were just calling me a stupid kid that wanted to play writer and insulted me for that. Tee hee if only they knew the truth. Though some were just so brain implodingly imbecilic, I was sorely tempted to register to a few sites just to defend myself and point out everything wrong with what they were saying. Please slap some sense into me so I don't have that thought again. =P

Looks like the rumours were true, XSEEDs localising Ragnarok Odyssey and Orgarhythm:
This evening at an event held by XSEED, it was announced that the publisher will be bringing both Ragnarok Odyssey and the oddball music strategy game, Orgarhythm, to North America.

Ragnarok Odyssey was previously released in Japan and garnered fairly high praise from famous Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, earning scores of 9, 8, 8, 7 from their four reviewers.

It is said to be something of a Monster Hunter-style game, and features a focus on "action-heavy" melee combat. It's being developed by GameArts which has worked on the Lunar and Grandia series.

The other title, Orgarhythm, was just announced a few days ago, and it's described as a rhythm-based combat game that doesn't sound too far off from something like a 3D Patapon. Players take control of a God-like figure who controls a set of elemental minions, and use the touch screen to choose formations while using different rhythms for different attacks.

XSEED said the game consists of twelve different maps which never play the same way twice, as the AI remembers your previous tactics and adjusts. It will also have both competitive and cooperative multiplayer.

Ragnarok Odyssey is reportedly pretty great, so it's worth keeping an eye out for.

I haven't played a game like this really (Ragnarok Odyssey) but the youtube video of the japanese demo looked good and quite appealing but I'd want to see larger battles first...the respawning enemies was a bit of a warning sign for me in regards to performance.

About MK, I was always on the fence as although I'm pleased they managed to get it running at 60fps and packed in a lot of content, I'm on the side that says they could have done much better with the graphics, which you could sort of tell from the video interviews they had. The textures, lighting...just bad. The screenshots confirm it and I might be able to get over it, perhaps if it was on sale, but I've read a few posts of input delay from other users - "sluggish/clunky" which bothers me more. Can anyone confirm it?

Yes, the vita is at an early stage but playing wipeout errry day, it just seems they should have done better. Wipeout is 30fps, but still they played it way too safe with MK and it suffers for it. SFxT looks more appealing now. Wanted to skip SF and give MK a go as it's been a while since I've played one but I don't think so. Heard the console version is good though, too bad I've been basically vita only these days.

Wish we could just fast forward and get 2015 quality games this year ;) Maybe some developers will surprise us. Kudos SL. PS, racebox.

Ok, so I just bought Daxter, I was over 50% done with it on my PSP, and I wanted to finish it on the Vita. I go to load my save and it tells me there is no save data, but when I check my PSP save data in the system settings, it is right there. Is this a bug or an easily fixed issue, because I'm going to be pissed if I have to start all over when the save is sitting right there.

I don't have a Vita but in this situation my steps would be:

    - back up the save file if not already
    - delete whatever Daxter saves are on the Vita
    - start a new Daxter game on Vita and save
    - find and replace the save file it creates with your old one

In other words, it may not be located where you expected, or it may need to register the fact that a save file for the game exists before being able to use your save.

You have to transfer saved games separately from the actual games. Did you make sure to specifically transfer the saves as well?

The story mode is even better if you were an MK fan back in the day. But, regardless of your familiarity with the story, it's an excellent single player campaign. It knows when to be goofy and when to take itself seriously, and executes moving between both tones flawlessly.

I agree, the game looks good in motion, I only really notice that it looks bad you when see the x-ray moves (too close: see the bad textures and low polygons) and when it switches from cutscene to game in story mode. (the transition is so fluid that the model quality contrast is jarring.)

Quick GOW question: I just picked up 3 on Glyde for $12, and want to experience the PSP versions as well. Should I grab them on the Vita, or are the HD remakes for the PS3 so superior that I would be foolish to play the originals (albeit on a much better screen/system)?

Just got a Vita last week. I was lurking here since launch and all of you are responsible for generating so much hype that I succumbed. I got a 32g card off amazon and so far have downloaded HSG and LoH: TitS. What's the best case solution, or which do you guys prefer? I have tried the Hori rubberized case, the one that smells really awful. I got the smell mostly out, but I think I'm going to order that Thrustmaster VIP case. The Hori case is huge, and apparently the Thrustmaster one is very minimal.

I've got the VIP case and I'm not sure I like it. I was expecting something quite sturdy, like a glasses case, but it's basically just plastic. It'll probably do the job of protecting my Vita in a bag but I wouldn't trust it anymore than that. It is definitely very minimal though, which I like, and looks great from the front.
I picked up the VIP case, and it's honestly not that much smaller than the Hori one. It feels a lot less secure than the Hori, because the Hori zips closed. In a fall situation, I'm not sure the VIP case would stay shut, since it's just plastic. I can also use my rubber grip for the Vita when it's in the Hori case, the VIP case only fits the system while "naked". I feel like the VIP case, since it's shiny plastic will get way more scuffed up while in my bag. I'm not sure what to do, they are both good cases. I'm just not sure which I prefer.

To answer the Daxter questions, I transferred my saves from my PSP to my PS3 then to my Vita before selling off my PSP. I just got Daxter last night. Yes it is the US version, I got it from the Daxter PSP bundle. So you are saying delete the save, make a new save file, and then re-transfer the save from my PS3?

Edit: Well I tried everything and yep the save is borked. Guess it's starting all over for me.
