Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

I'm in the process of editing my short story (didn't post it yet) for submission to a competition on Monday, and trying to come up with a good title is pretty difficult.
Any thoughts on these two or others in similar vein? A Quiet Exit or A Dead Ringer

The Quiet Ringer
it fits best
We used to have one, I promise. Something happened to it. I blame Orikae.
We're supposed to have a unified global rules thing soon. I'll put something up if it's still a ways off.
In essence: No fanfiction. This place is for crits. No fanfiction. Don't sitewhore or 'showcase.' No fanfiction.
This place is not your mother's fridge, everything posted here is done for the express purpose of getting critiques and improving your work. Don't post stuff just to 'showcase' it. There is a thread specifically for that.
No fanfiction or erotica. Ever.
Criticism should be constructive.
No sitewhoring. The body of your work that you want critiqued should be posted in its entirety in your thread. Don't link to your offsite stuff at all.

Feels good to have finally completed a piece though!
Not to be a whiner who wants to bend the rules for his own gain, but linking to offsite stuff is sometimes necessary when you're asking for crits on something over 10k words.
Man, now you guys are never going to get to read the Holmes/Watson slashfic I wrote that @ceres enjoyed so much.
Your loss~
Sherlock going down on sweet, sweet Dr. Twatson still violates the "no erotica" clause, though.

So if my fantasy story is heavily character driven, I can call it 'literary fantasy' right?
With our legs flotsam in the deserted pool she tells me thing aren’t going to work. Her legs kick and wobble pale in the electric blue-green, only hint at discomfort. My leg hairs swirl like feelers.
Can I kiss you at least, I ask, passing her the cigarette.
After a pause she says yes. Her head smells like chlorine and night. My hand finds the shrapnel of her hipbone under skin. It traces her clammy thigh. Cold lips mash together.
My head: flick her cigarette into the water, like drowning a firefly. Baptize her, find flushed warm parts under ripples. Spark her.
My eyes: we bisect, there are freckles under her eyes. She looks quizzical. Her tongue tiptoes her teeth. Whatever you need, she says. Whatever helps. The cigarette goes back in like punctuation.
Shiny scar tissue on her thigh, a tetanus shot age five. Her parents knew she’d be the type to climb rusted pool fences and shatter dirty glass houses. It fits under my thumbprint. We sit, churn refractions, pretend I’ve marked her.
presumably literary fiction has a more elaborate or profound "purpose," in terms of theme, of structure, of concept; it is doing something more than "just" telling a story, and the reader is motivated to engage the piece on that level rather than read to discover how the narrative unfolds. The plot isn't necessarily weaker, but it is presumably less important than in commercial fiction.
The distinction is pretty vague in terms of what ends up on the shelf, which is usually just fiction that doesn't fit in a particular genre or is written by an author with critical academic acclaim.

Yes, when you upload a book you can select where that publication will be available region-by-region. This is expressedly so you can upload different editions for UK/US/Spanish markets. Make sure you get the US edition though, you'll sell twice as much as her (unless she's a hard working marketer)
Wank, yes. Aus is cold as a witches tit right now.
EDIT: Also I just made my first prosale, so if you lovely people want to see a scifi short you helped revise: http://aescifi.ca/index.php/fiction/35-short-stories/1177-like-any-other-star
