I just hit 30 and am using the shield counter threat and extra MP+threat on the basic combo. I still have most of my damage abilities up front (with the shield bash on mouse 3) and am slowly working in debilitate and leash, but they're still a little far down the bar at 6 and 7. I'm not a fan of the F keys quite yet. I assume modifer keys are are in so I'll put start putting stuff on Shift+1 through 5.
I'm enjoying the lancer talk, thanks for the tips all.
And thanks @Just_Bri_Thanks
You want to get into the habit of having 3 stacks of debilitate up at all times. Even just while grinding normally, get into the habit of working it into your attacks. It's really quick and you can basically block cancel out of the animation first thing and still get the effect. So against bosses you'll want to shield counter, then keep tapping debilitate til the animation starts then just drop back into block. (I've always found I hit the stupid block glitch less often if I did something between shield counter and trying to reblock. Oh man that stupid glitch.)

Sometimes you'll think you're blocking but get hit. Thats because certain things seem to get you stuck in a halfblock animation. (Such as, as many have noticed, shield counter.) It isn't consistent, but its annoying. Basically you'll have to drop block til the animation for lowering your shield finishes completely before you can press block to reblock properly.
It really blows, because you'll be sitting there with your shield up, thinking you're all good and BAMF, face full of monster stomp. A way to avoid it is using the skill icons thing, as that does tell you if you're blocking or not, but it gets really cumbersome and blocks a good bit of the BAM/Boss so reading cues becomes a pain.

Ahhh yes, I have encountered that often but never really thought it was a bug. It's not really any different than my warrior's dodge and death from above rarely going off when I click it the first time because I'm inevitably in the tail end of some other animation, even if the animation appears to be "finished."

that's not much better
it's still something that vanarchs can just choose not to unlock, then you're just as equally fucked as if they decided to turn them off
i don't like how the vanarch system impacts people like me who don't give two fucks about it and just want to hit things with a sword

Lancer can block cancel any move but their challenging shout, so not quite the same thing. This actually does the animation of you blocking and everything, but it doesn't actually work. A bit more annoying.

I forget, was Westonia what you were gunning for? If so, yay!
What was even more obnoxious was that no sooner had the Vanarch of Poporia finished making her comments, the heckling started in area chat. You see, the Vanarch made the mistake of saying that the more people praise her guild, the faster she can turn stuff back on (a true statement). Begin the discussion of how the Vanarch is holding all their services hostage until everyone praises her guild. She did turn on trainers immediately. Yeah, it would be nice if her guild had lined up an immediate praise cannon system to get everything turned on immediately, but I hardly expect that to be the norm.
That said, I hope Vanarchs lay the fuck off their PA system.
As of 9:46, all services except the noble cleric were up and running. As of 10:06, we got his ass up, too.
I guess the lure of making back the 3k registration fee is too strong. So be it, I shall praise my own guild and the Vanarchs can fuck themselves.
We frapsed it all to use in our reelection video. Gonna put that together before the next election so we can show people we kept our promises.
Yeah, this is one one of the things we promised to NOT do.
Sinndra used the Westonia vanarch channel exactly once: to thank people and to inform them that all services were now up and running. The reaction was entirely positive.
Oh, and here's what the vanarch system entails, since it wasn't made exactly crystal clear by EME:
-You acquire the "Honor Steed" for simply being in a guild that holds office. It just appears in your skill list as soon as you join the guild. It's the fastest mount in the game currently at 290, 10 faster than the lion.
-It costs 3,000 policy points per day to keep everything up and running.
-If you plan to ignore the noble cleric, it's 500 less.
-The trade broker costs 500, both trainers together are another 500 (they're not separate).
-The specialty store costs the most, requiring 1,500 PP/day to keep open.
-Each of these services has a button where you can choose to extend the service another day in exchange for the correct amount of PP. When you do this, it announces it to the province.
-You can set tax rates on every individual service, including merchants and travel, up to 15% and as low as 1%.
-The vanarch quests are found on the guild board and are for all of the rare BAMs in the game (Arakia, Barraq, etc.).
-The vanarch quests are identical to the normal rare BAM guild quests, except they award 500 PP per turn in (you get credit for both the vanarch quest AND the guild quest, meaning every 500 PP should come with 4 cath award tokens, too).
-The fastest way to acquire PP is to hunt appropriate level rare BAMs with a group of 5 guildies that all have the quest. This means 2,500 PP per kill, total.
-A vanarch term is 3 weeks (22 days). It would take 66,000 PP to keep the service up for the whole 22 days. This equals a full party of 5 with the quest killing ~27 rare BAMs.
Yeah. It wouldn't matter it it was a normal chat message, but it isn't. It's like an system message. Which is really freaking silly.
-edit-
And I have to take back what i said before, the Vanarch of Poporia did drop all the taxes to 1% as promised in her campaign, it just didn't happen immediately. She turned on skill trainers and then I guess real life intervened. But she came back and dropped the taxes (the only one on my server to do so, so far). So I will definitely praised that guild.
8 provinces on Serpentis Isle have 1% taxes and keeping the stuff open is a breeze. 4 of us got on level 20 alts and did Arakia/Lannok on all 3 channels and bam - done for the week.
Oh, has anyone figured out what the noble cleric of restoration actually does?
What do I do while waiting in queue for support?
I really hope this "oh, that's only a problem very early on!" story is true, I felt like I could barely do my job.
I rarely block on trash, just bosses.
Run with some +MP regen gems then and reduced normal monster dmg if you have to. And if you are in SM before L27 you're just being a hindrance to the group IMHO.
EDIT: Nevermind, found it on the account page.
