Is there anyone here that has experience with the G510 keyboard? We came into some "found" money and so I have been able to do a few upgrades. New speakers, mouse, keyboard and massively upgraded RAM.

I always liked the G keyboards with their screen, but I just want a reassurance that it might be worth it for the long haul.

My wife and I both have the G510. It's a great keyboard. I would only buy it if you're going to make use of the extra keys and all that stuff though, otherwise I don't think it'd be worth the cost.

Speaking of logitech and their keyboards and gameboards with LCD screens, I noticed they added support for the screen in the last BWE. The screen displays stats and stuff, most of the time it was map completion stuff like waypoints, skill points, etc. Though otherwise it's just a nice little Guild Wars 2 logo. Dunno if it displays anything else in sPvP or WvW.

Im sure I will find some use for macroable keys. Plus I know the screen will be very nice if not just for the voicechat support. And the sound controls seem boss. I had a keyboard with sound controls before but it was cheapo and they never worked right. Assuming they work, it seems like it would be awesome.

Also it was the update that the screen would be supported that prompted me to get one. However I dont know if its just the G19 (the big color screen) or if it supports older ones like the G510 I plan to get.

Also getting a G400 mouse. I am trying to stay cheap on mice and simply trying to upgrade to higher precision and more than 3 buttons.

Well I'm using a G13, which has a similar screen, so I don't think you'll have any problems there.

My wife had one for a while and really liked it. We just replaced both of our keyboards with some nice mechanical ones, though. Never going back to non-clickety-clackety ones again.

The g510 is only a hundred bucks so the price isn't bad. I'm just wondering if the g19 would be worth it considering it's double the price.

My keyboards w and a are buggered and this things F1 keys are impossible to hit with any accuracy.

I was also looking at the razer keyboards priced around 100$

I actually found the G510 on Amazon for 77 bucks. So that was basically a steal.

Seriously. I did EVERYTHING in Queensdale and I was still underleveled.

There are other options. After I felt I finished the Norn starting area, I moved over to the Charr starting area. If needed, I would have moved over to the Human starting area.

Background chatter? I had NPC's run up to my face and say "Hey, we need your help." Hell, in the Charr starting area, I had one run up and order me to report to an area to defend it. The system works, people just choose to ignore it. Plus, like I said above, plenty of other areas to quest at.

The design could still be improved. We know all of these are options because we've been salivating over this game for years. Doesn't mean that a completely new player is going to know about them. The NPCs running up to you telling you about stuff happening is a step in the right direction, but there's still nothing to indicate crafting is even a thing beyond curiosity at strange symbols on the map. For that, and for informing players that they can access the other races' starting areas for free from the moment they step outside of their first instance, there still could be some improvement.

As I've said before, although thats what I eventually did, its not at all intuitive and is not good design. Fortunately, fixing the xp curve is probably easier than implementing enough tutorial content to make it clear that going to another starter area is what you should do.

If an area says its 1-17, it should take you from 1 to 17. Which the Norn and Charr areas do. So I'm REALLY not sure why people are trying to argue that the human area is fine when we already have two examples that ARE fine and as such can clearly be done.

Also, you are not intended to have to go to the other areas to level - you should be able to level properly in your own races zones without needing to jump around to other areas. The human zones are not tuned right, and they now know this. Beta is beta and all that. I would expect to see some adjustments to the human zones in the next bwe.

I really don't know what to tell you. I only pveed and stayed in the human starting zone the whole time. Entered kjesses hills around level 18. I really didn't experience any proplemes with the experience.

But if I could throw in my two cents the only time if felt frustrated by a zone/gameplay was when I tried to rush to level 35, with other people last beta weekend. Only advice I'd have for you is stop trying to chase a level and just stop to enjoy the zone. At least that what I did and the only time iv seen there was a proplemes with experience is when other people brought it up.

I had the same issue with Queensland - when I reached the point where there were no more hearts to grab, and I didn't see any event nearby, I looked for where to go next, and saw that the next two zones where both a few levels up from me. It doesn't need a *huge* XP change, but given that I did every DE I ran across (golding typically in participation) I shouldn't have been coming up short.

I am in the same boat as Marslo on Queensdale. I did do some crafting (maybe had Armorsmithing up to like 50 by time I left Queensdale), but otherwise didn't touch wuwuv until after Queensdale and exited the area around 18 or 19.

Now, this was BWE1 (as I imagine it was the same for Marslo). And people have mentioned it seems like a BWE1 -> BWE2 change. If you cannot currently get close to 15 or 17 (or whatever level the next zone is) just doing all the hearts, passing DEs, and story quests, it does need to be tuned.

I didn't do queensdale in BWE1, but in BWE2 the tuning wasn't good, period. Doing every heart in order and all personal story, and doing every dynamic event you see should have you in line for exp, and for me, the next hearts I could do were recommended level 10 and I had JUST turned level 7. If the problem was not enough dynamic events popping up, that's cool, they just need to make more of them happen. In BWE1 I never had any sort of issue in the Charr area.

I also kill basically every enemy I pass by even if it's not part of a DE/heart, just because my thief is awesome and I like the fighting in GW2. Just beta, so I'm sure they'll get the tuning better.

  • XagarXagar Registered User regular
You're probably leveling slower because you keep stopping to kill things.

"For who knows what is good for a man in life, during the few and meaningless days he passes through like a shadow?
Who can tell him what will happen under the sun after he is gone?"
  • DarkewolfeDarkewolfe Registered User regular
I had limited experience, but two hours as a human in BWE2 Queensdale definitely was slower leveling than two hours as Norn in BWE1. I would say, actually, that I'm pretty sure I encountered dynamic events significantly less often as a human. As a Norn I seemed to be constantly ending up in them accidentally. As a human that wasn't true. Also, the Norn events seemed to make me travel further during them. For instance, lots would lead you down into caves. This would lead to you staying engaged with mobs more often, and more likely to follow on with the next quest. The above ground ones made it more likely that you'd actually wander off.

I suddenly find myself super excited about this game.

Question: if I never bothered playing GW in the past, is it worth picking up all these years later in the meantime just to check it out? Or will I just be annoyed at outdated mechanics and not being able to jump and all that?

You will PROBABLY be super annoyed by the outdated mechanics. You absolutely have to spend a decent chunk of time reading the wiki on every little thing you try to do to be particularly successful in GW1. You have to look up builds and hero builds and understand why you can't buy this particular item from certain players for plat, because they want ecto, and the price on ecto always fluctuates, BUT THE CONVERSION BETWEEN ITEMS NEVER CHANGES WHY IS THIS?, and WHY IS IT LIKE 50 PLAT FOR THAT, I NEED THAT, and WHY DID I WIPE ON THE LAST BOSS HERE THIS IS BULLSHIT.

Granted, I have been playing the crap out of GW1. But it's a challenge. Also, you'd probably end up wanting to dump at least $40 to get all the packs and eye of the north so you could get some of the cosmetic items for your GW2 account.

Like you guys, the manifesto video swayed my opinion. I wasn't big on Guild Wars, so Guild Wars 2 didn't even get my attention until 2012.
