If you ever get stuck, just hack yourself in a Zoroark. (If you don't know what Pokemon that is, look at my avatar.) Zoroark fixes all problems. Zoroark will help you out. Zoroark will make you feel sleepy. Very very sleepy. Zoroark will tell you to give him all of your money. Zoroark will get it. Zoroark will run away.
Ooo.. pretty Pokemon.. So nice.. So pretty.. So.. sleepy..

    Wait! No!

I've been spending a bit of my time on http://pokemondb.net/ learning about all the new crazy I've missed since the days of red/blue/yellow. Holy shit breeding and EV's and what-not. I'm definitely going to have to plan my team a lot more than I did last time I played..

EVs aren't really that important unless your doing competitive battling, and http://serebii.net has a nice big article on complete EV training and good spots for it in the IV/V generation games. http://www.serebii.net/games/evs.shtml I HIGHLY recommend bookmarking http://serebii.net or something, because it is very informative, and they post news around every day. They have complete complete Pokedex's/Attackdex's/Itemdex/Abiltydex/Berrydex all on their site. They also have a Pokeearth for every region that shows the maps, all the trianers, catch rates of the Pokemon there, ect. They also have a Game Mechanics section detailing Effort Values, Individual Values, Dynamic Values, IV Calculator, Moveset Calculator, Gen V Moveset Calculator, Hidden Power, EXP, Happiness, Capturing Pokémon, Breeding, Damage Calculation, and quite a bit more! The only thing they don't have is full-fledged walkthroughs. They have all the inforrmation, but they don't have it condensed in walkthrough form, so I usually use http://pokemon.marriland.com if I need a walkthrough.

The best current Pokemon news sites are:
    http://serebii.net
http://pokebeach.com (Pokebeach is much less resource centered than serebii, and is more news centered. It has everything, but it goes a lot more indepth into the TCG)

Mind. Blown. Information overload, holy shit balls. Thank you, thank you!

I'm not using any walk throughs or guides on trainers right now as I really wanna have my play through be genuine. Normally I suck pretty hard at video games, missing key steps and info, but with Pokemon I tend to do everything right the first time without help. I've been leveraging pokemondb so help with evolution stats and moves, partly so I know when it's responsible to push till the next evolution.

There are also a few handy dandy EV calculators out there if you search for them.

After your done with white, I recommend trying a Nuzlocke challenge on a game! I personally recommend RSE (Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the 3 main generation III games) to do a Nuzlocke on. What a Nuzlocke run is is basically a "hard mode" of any Pokemon game. You just have to follow 3 rules!

    1. If a Pokemon faints, its dead. Release it or put it in a PC box labeled "DEAD".
    2. You may only catch the first Pokemon you see in any route/town/cave/forest. You cannot catch duplicates of that Pokemon on the same route. If you accidentally kill that first Pokemon you see, you can't catch the next thing you see. THIS COUNTS GIFT POKEMON/IN-GAME TRADES.
    3. You must nickname all Pokemon you catch.

The Nuzlocke challenge was created by some random guy (can't recall his name), and he has this really cool on-going web-comic series, which I recommend reading, as he has gone through Ruby, Firered, and is currently in the middle of White. It was named Nuzlocke because one of the guys first catches was a Seedot (then Nuzleaf) with the face of John Locke from LOST, so Nuzleaf+John Locke= Nuzlocke. nuzlocke.com

Well it depends, If you want to be a gym leader, a pretty big commitment, but the leader applications are closed, so that's not a problem, but for a challenger, there isn't really much of a commitment, you can battle 1 gym leader, and then never see us again, or you can go stalking each of us down, going far enough to sit next to us during the Q&As (the second method is preferred). it's all up to you on how much you want to participate, but since running this whole thing, making badges, rival cards, ect. costs money, its preferred that if you start, try to finish.

How much do you like fun? Each of our gym leaders come equipped with their unique badges-claim 8 and you can challenge our elite (much like in the games), and from there go onto the champion! In addition to the champion showcase, for the past few PAXs we've given out champion prizes as well (though the awesome badge art is a great reward all on its own). We may have other prizes in the works, but you'll need to wait on our esteemed bossman Pine for details on those ;)

Also, for Prime, we should have some indicator for gym leader difficulties (much like the rival cards from this past East): casual, intermediate, and veteran. Even the team you beat the in-game E4 with should earn you a handful of badges. More than that requires luck, and a bit of preparation. As we approach Prime, gym leader bios will go up on our site here, which will give challengers a better idea of what to expect from each leader (types, themes, and such).

We can get the badges throughout the entire event correct? For example I can get 5 on Friday, 3 on Saturday and then be able to challenge the elite anytime after that?

Looks like its time to quickly finish up my copy of Black to transfer my SS pokes over.

    correct-a-mundo!
We also don't have any plans currently to have any day specific events (like with rival cards at east where you were supposed to battle your rival each day)

Also are there any meeting or meet ups that are required? Or can I see a Gym Leader/Elite Four run up to them and battle then and there? Also ( because I am better at the TCG) could I challenge the said gym leader in the card game and get a badge from that?

As far as I know, the PPL does not utilize the card game at all. That isn't to say that none of the gym leaders play it, but battles take place using the vidja games.

Usually gym leaders will have their PPL scarf on if they are open to being challenged. The scarf will be pictured in this thread most likely so that people know what to look for.

Zehrzul is correct (as usual). Not many of our leaders play the card game but some do. At the original PPL one of our leaders was actually one of the top 10 in the nation at the pokemon card game. Despite this, we do all of our battles via the game because of it's higher install base, quicker setup and play, and mobility while playing.

As for meetups, we have them. You don't HAVE to come to them, but if you do, you'll have a great shot at finding leaders.

Hey Everybody! About 6 months ago I started the Seattle Pokemon Players group on Facebook. We've gotten a collection on members and have had various small events around the city. We're planning on having a meetup at PAX and we want it to be the biggest yet! So we'll like you to come on out on Saturday Sept 1st at 3 o'clock in the Second Floor handheld lounge (East or West not sure at the moment. That'll be updated when the Convention Map is released)

We have a public facebook event that you should join and will be updated more frequently! https://www.facebook.com/events/173861456082273/

Cheers and hope to see ya there!

12 leaders? Either I'm missing something or that is a low number, considering that just barely covers a lower 8 and an Elite Four.

I'm just guessing, but I think that is the point. You'll have to win a majority and win all the elite matches. They had meet up spots and a whole buch hung out at the handheld lounge so they weren't too hard too find. Last year I played occasionally and didn't have time after a loss to an elite to finish, but that's what I get for waiting too long to get badges. And this year my nephew is using my Pokemon so hell be having all the fun. Hope he can use them properly.

  • KittywifKittywif Registered User new member
None of the leaders you see posted are part of the Elite "4". If you can't guess who you'll be facing at the very top just yet, I suggest you keep up with the webcomic and it will all make sense eventually.
