So people, tell me about Alan Wake. I am intrigued by it, but the people I know who have it have done a poor job of selling me on it. Hmm, alright, I'll sit on it.

Also, can I individually select games as gifts in the indie packs? I want to give someone botanicula because I've played it and the game should be played by EVERYONE.

I only really want Splice and EYE from the pack.

Alan Wake needs to be bought. It's one of my favorite games ever. Those of you who know my taste in games, that may mean something to you. The combat is decent, the story is intriguing, and the atmosphere is jaw dropping. It's like if Stephen King took a lot of acid and rebooted Twin Peaks.

It nails the cinematic game-as-bizarre-tv-horror-show feel. It's the sort of thing that isn't often attempted in games, and is even less often done well. Remember, this is the studio that created Max Payne. They know how to set a mood and focus it with laser precision.

Oh, and it contains my single favorite scene in any video game ever. I don't want to spoil it, but it involves fending off hell fiends in a cornfield using the power of heavy metal. Complete with a giant stage and enough pyrotechnics to make KISS blush.

Oh, and you know that episode of Buffy where she's bitten by a demon that makes her start to hallucinate that she's been a patient in an insane asylum the whole time, and not actually a vampire slayer? And at the end it doesn't fully dismiss the possibility that it might be true?

Alan Wake does a similar bit, and it does it better.

In a moment of weakness I was going to buy the Shining Force games, and instead bought the Sega Genesis Classics Pack 4. To make myself feel better about it, I bought another one. I'm not sure how that works, but I'm giving it to one of you guys.
    It contains these games:
Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole, Light Crusader, Shining Force, Shining Force II, Shining in the Darkness, Streets of Rage, Streets of Rage 2, Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair
Here's how to win it. Below are three images cropped from screenshots of games that have been on Sega systems.
    Spoiler:
PM me with what games they are from. By ohh... Midnight Central time tomorrow (7/14). So that's about 24 hours from now. The winner will be randomly chosen from the correct entries. It shouldn't be too hard, but if no correct entries, I will start giving clues and the first one to PM with the correct answer will get it. You can submit multiple entries, but only the latest one will count.

    Reposting.
There are two entries eligible for the drawing so far, so there will be no lightning round. Which is a shame, cause I've been trying to find a use for this giant Tesla coil.

I'm glad to see that at least one of the pictures (the first) is providing some challenge, but also glad to see a few know it, because it is a great game.

Yes, it's worth $5 unless you absolutely loathe 3D platforming games.

It's gorgeous, in an at time truly beautiful, and at other times truly disturbing way. The gameplay does have some variety to it, but the levels, especially towards the end, are about 25% longer than they need to be. There's not much reason to replay it, but then again, it's $5.

The terrible thing about these sales is that I don't even know I want these games until they go on sale. I can't think of any games I want to pick up and then BAM Alice. And I give Steam more money.

I agree completely. I'm not a fan of 3D platformers, but I'm glad I trudged through the (not horrible, not great) gameplay for the story and atmosphere. Well worth a fiver.

Now that I actually have better than 1.5 megabit internet (170ish kilobytes, for those lucky enough to not know this pain) I need to ask you guys about Steam downloads - the slow speeds I'm getting are just due to server traffic on account of the sale, right? I can't get about 500 kb/s downloading Payday, and the download chart looks like a sine wave

Just nabbed Assassin's Creed Pack from a CAGer for $28.73. He wanted to do a trade for the Alan Wake Pack and The Walking Dead, so it was worth it for the big savings at the end.

Owned this games on 360, but I'm hoping I can get 60 fps and v-sync this way, plus all the DLC I missed. At this rate I'm not even going to need a 360 anymore. Also, thank god for that 2TB hard drive.

He also tossed in a giftable copy of The Binding of Isaac, a game I already own. As a result, I have a chance to return some of that classiness with my own:

    The Binding of Isaac Giveaway

Rules: I'll make this simple. PM me the most inspiring and/or awesome quote from The Bible that you can find.

No crazy long passages, just a sentence or two.

I'll make the deadline one hour, ending at 2:30 am (EST)

Winner gets one copy of The Binding of Isaac (DLC not included).

So I will be getting married in a little less than a month. Since this Saturday is our wedding shower, and I know we will be getting gifts (unfortunately though you can't register on steam)... I figure its only fair to spread the wealth and maybe some other lucky person can get a ring of their own.

With that in mind, I am giving away 1 copy of SONIC GENERATIONS to some lucky person.

Contest? PM me the best picture of a grooms cake/grooms table you can find. Bonus points for creativity, originality, and just plain delicious looking food.

I've never played Portal 2 multi, and I'm always up for Borderlands (but I do a lot worse in multi...)
And after I finish the weekend even goals for ME3, I'm totally down to play.

Borderlands hasn't quite finished downloading and I haven't started getting Portal 2 yet, so it'll be a few days before I get into either, but feel free to hit me up whenever. I won't be a dick, but you might need to be a bit patient with me.

The commentary that comes with the special editon contents isn't... particularly great or insightful beyond a few tidbits you could just find on a fan wiki (and isn't as well blended in as say, Valve's commentary). The book is a neat extra, gives more tidbits about certain characters you wouldn't otherwise know and puts some of the events into a different perspective but would only really appeal to big fans. The soundtrack is great but hard to say if you'd get any enjoyment out of it on its own, music taste being how it is.

It's cheaper to grab both Alan Wake + Collector's Edition and it's semi-sequel American Nightmare together, it saves you about a buck and some change as opposed to buying both separately.
