COME FORTH, AMATERASU!
Points: 35/35
Major Victoria Haley (*5pts)
* Stormclad (10pts)
* Squire (2pts)
Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
* Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts)
* * Defender (9pts)
Stormguard (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts)
Captain Arlan Strangewayes (2pts)
Journeyman Warcaster (3pts)
Everything here works great, but I'm not sure about the 6pts spent on stormguard. I could run min boomhowlers or a lancer, or maybe something else. I'm using stormguard right now because they give less line of sight issues for my gun mages than boomhower would.
I'm expecting to run into either of the doomshapers or grim angus tonight, and I'm not sure about my list matchups. I'm terrible at dealing with trolls. Should I just run eNemo If I expect to be against doomshaper? What are some good matchups against angus?
Against Grim you'll likely be facing a shooty list and it'll be shooty denial vs. shooty denial, at which point I feel you win. I would never run eNemo against eDoomy... he'll just alpha the shit out of your jacks and then win.
Is he using Janissa to protect his warlock? That's always a tough thing to deal with. If you're up against Doomy, have a lot of threats on him and have the positioning for it, Haley can move up and pop a boosted TK into him pretty reliably -- two chance with boosted attack rolls, both rerollable with the Squire -- and move him off of the wall and turn him around.
eHaley can't piece trade, so I can't afford to spend the Stormclad unless I can prevent a counterattack by another heavy.

Spoilered for huge:
I primed them with Army Painter Plate Mail, blocked in some Bronze, Cygnar Blue and Yellow, dipped in some Minwax, applied some matte varnish and did a few highlights. Total time was ~20 minutes per knight, pretty happy with the outcome.
Are models affected by ROF for out-of-activation attacks?
Say, free attacks granted by Witch Hound on your opponent's turn.
COME FORTH, AMATERASU!
Whoops.
Any cheap adds to the box to bring it to 15 points?
11 by my math with Sorscha and the two 'Jacks
I can also tap my pirates. Aiyana and Holt would fit well in there.
Is there really a list where A&H *don't* fit in?
COME FORTH, AMATERASU!
No.
I don't know the game well enough yet to say for sure, but they sure as hell show up in many lists online. I'm compelled to use them as my surname is Holt.
A Khador list with a Bloodlust caster in a meta where you're guaranteed to not face any Incorporeal.
So... no.
That's what I figured.
Had a silly idea of running Kaelyssa + a Hyperion versus a spell-slinging army.
Yes, please, hit one of my battlegroup models with a spell... YOU GET A LASER!
COME FORTH, AMATERASU!
I usually pick two independently operating support solos instead. Gorman and Sylas tend to be my picks over them.
ur dum
What is this Defender's Ward you speak of? :I
In-faction, for four points you can get:
- Widowmakers (4 models)
- Greylord Ternion (3 models)
- Minimum Winterguard Infantry (6 models, I believe)
Of these, I'd probably recommend the Widowmakers. They become DEF 18 with Sorscha's Fog of War up, they've got quite a long threat range with their rifles and Pathfinder, and they're accurate. They'd be pretty good at picking off the sort of support units/solos you'd be likely to come up against at 15 points (Choir, Beast Handlers, etc.) I'd advise against Winterguard at 15 points, as they only really come into their own as a full unit with UA and Kovnik Joe. Six low-def, low RAT models wouldn't be my choice (though you'll probably eventually want Winterguard anyway, so they might not be a bad buy.)
There's also quite a few good 2-point solos available, the Widowmaker Marksman and the Koldun Lord would be the two I'd recommend to make up your 4 points. The Koldun Lord would be able to either marshal the Destroyer and give it an extra focus (or just give it the focus and leave the Destroyer in Sorscha's battlegroup) giving it a fully boosted bombard on the assassination turn. Koldun Lord is my go-to two pointer, he's an excellent toolbox and he usually pulls his weight with power boosts and sprays.
edit: Whoops, I've replied to Draeven's question, but this answer is for @Morskittar as well.
There are also some sweet merc solos that can fill 4 points pretty handily.
Edit: But then I read what the post was about and felt like a dummy.
Hey look! A thing!
Both the Marksman and the Koldun Lord are pretty badass models.

25pt games are about making a gimmick list and trying to get your gimmick to work better and faster. Warmachine doesn't really come together until 35pt games, so don't worry too much about sizing up.
Otherwise, i agree with Kaorti - play battlebox and 15 point games first for a while.
