I planned on getting back to the hotel and using some of my last funds to get Krater cheap...what the heck happened? Any more of this and I'll end up buying that train game...I've never played any of the Elderscrolls series so I voted Oblivion. That could be dangerous though, I've heard it's a gateway drug to Skyrim.

Is there such a thing as a 'lull' in the Summer Sale? Cause I feel the last two days have been seriously lulled and plagued by terrible voting.

I am in the business of saving lives.

Seriously, the writing in The Bard's Tale is good stuff.

    Intrigued.

Isn't the Bard voiced by Cary Elwes?

    SOLD!

Just be warned: It's not him doing his normal/Wesley voice that he is most famous for, but it's still good.

...but the final, all-important fact, that will get you buying this game and playing it to the end.

The game as a Narrartor, and who is it? None other than Tony Jay.

Sales are sales. Everything being on sale all week has been pretty bad ass, not everything is in a flash sale or voting sale. Gotta look around. Lot of good games went half off or more. I would say that there is never a 'lull' with Steam. Something is always uber cheap.

I start to feel that way, then I buy stuff I don't want to give away. It helps.

I've heard tell that they're not inviting people during the sale, to prevent casuals from bringing down the property values. Of course, I've been in the group for years, and I have seven cars on my lawn, so who knows?

So far, all I've bought is Skyrim. My wallet considers this a success. The only willpower-testing deal so far was SR3, and it's gone, so I should be safe. Should.

I'm really surprised Krater lost out to Sanctum. Sanctum's a great game and all but it's on sale all the time. Whereas Krater just came out a few weeks ago and to my knowledge, this is the first time it's been on sale.

Also, the narrator and the bard frequently insult each other, which is always nice.

Personally, I didn't really enjoy the Bard's Tale remake, having just finished it (after a long 6-year hiatus) on PS2 a few months ago. It was passable, but something just felt missing in the combat for me. Still, you can't go wrong at $2.49.

I had a great summer sale so far, but I'm a new PC gamer so there was tons and tons of stuff that was new to me. I'm low on funds now, so there are a few things I probably won't get that I planned on (Ass Creed 1,2 and some Splinter Cell to name a few) but I gifted some, was gifted some, and bought quite a bit so I've probably got a backlog to keep me in games until Christmas and I'll probably get a couple more games before the sale ends.

Now I can't wait to actually play some stuff! Football Manager 2012 and Dear Esther both have me really interested as they seem like things I've never really tried before.

Well, maybe Bad Rats will. Who knows what kind of freakish things it does when you're not looking.

Not even Bad Rats would play Bad Rats.

@OneAngryPossum is a classy son of a mammal, and hooked me up with Deus Ex DLC of The Missing Link! This was the one non-buyers remorse I had during the sale, and now I don't have to worry.

    Thank you so much!!

Hence why anybody playing Borderlands should be in wangchat and using that group since not everybody is part of the main group.

Although being here for 5 years and on Steam for 7 has gotta count for something, especially when all i'm looking for is ability to get into the chat.

I wouldn't worry about chat during the Sale. It gets rather stupid in there at times and they are trying to avoid people begging for games and what not. Few more days and it will all go back to normal. 20 people in chat, 4 of them talking. ;)

I had exactly the same experience. Bought Oblivion day 1 and played about 2-3 hours of it. Bought Skyrim day 1 and played about 80 hours over the following 3 weeks. Not to say that Oblivion is terrible or anything, but it wasn't what I was looking for at the time, and after playing Skyrim I doubt I could go back to it.

Binary Domain bought in the last five minutes, followed by Take On Helicopters in its first five minutes. There go two of the most expensive things on my wishlist.

  • Man of the WavesMan of the Waves Registered User regular
Binary Domain is an alright game.

They tried implementing voice commands and "conversations" with squad members. My opinion is that they failed terribly. It was a good idea, but I couldn't get it to work even in a quiet room. The squad members's trust is based on what you say to them, but they game would get my response wrong more than half the time. Unfortunately, the dialogue is bad, too.

The shooting bits are average. It's a cover-based affair against robotic enemies. The high point being location based damage, in that you can take out legs or arms and when you score a head shot kill, the robot turns on its allies.

The game does look good, though, and it is fun to play. Worth the 10 bucks I got it for from Amazon.

Spec-Ops: The Line is a much better squad-based, third-person shooter, so get that instead. Although, the only way to win that game is not to play, so there is that...

I was looking forward to Binary Domain, even though I didn't know that's what it was until I actually bought it. I remembered hearing about the squad-based voice commend implementation and trust mechanics a while ago, but I didn't remember what game it was. They are neat ideas, but poorly implemented here.

I've got to say it again how classy @Mackenzier is for gifting me Avernum: Escape from the Pit. I've never heard of it before but wish I had. It feels a bit like Baldur's Gate meets Fallout 1/2 (turn-based, AP combat) meets Elder Scrolls (freedom to explore a giant world). It's a really fun throwback to the role-playing games of the 90s.

Edit: And then he gifted me the Eschalon games. Oh Jesus!
