See now the problem with this picture is those ice cubes

those are the motherfuckers that somehow always fit the side of the glass perfectly on their curved side and prevent you from imbibing

They push up against your mouth when you're trying to take a drink and it just makes your lips cold and you hardly get any drink at all

Okay I have never understood this, so someone help me out.

When British people are talking about "two sugars," what does that mean?

How do you count sugars? Is that shorthand for "two teaspoons" or "twice the daily recommended amount" or what?

    Unrelated:

Make yourself some sweet tea. Use a ton of sugar—as much as the hot tea will hold. Then cool that shit down. Combine two parts tea with one part coconut milk. Stir really well. Enjoy.

iced tea is not really a thing down here I've discovered.

The looks that i got when I first asked for iced tea at a restaurant were just priceless.

but then, somebody nice figured it out and brought me some iced tea.

i've gotten around to drinking hot tea almost all the time now, no matter the time of day. But on some summer days, you still just want a tall glass of iced tea.

and not that lipton powdered crap that one of the cafes around here is serving and charging like $6/glass for. No, fuck you. If you're going to charge me that much, it damned well better be brewed iced tea, not powdered crap.

Maybe? I'm picturing in my mind a dainty silver bowl with cubes in it at some lavish manor, where the Queen of England picks up two with silver tongs and drops them into her tea.

Actually, thinking about it, that's asking for two lumps. Loony Toons gags are returning to my memory.

two teaspoons of sugar from the sugar bowl

or: two cubes of sugar, a cube being roughly the same amount as a teaspoon

do you not have sugar cubes in america or something

I've never seen any so based on my anecdotal evidence, no

Also, the teas I really enjoy drinking the most are herbal teas or black teas with flower petals in them like jasmine or rose (rose is my favorite)

So the best advice I can give to an American arriving in England is this. Go to Marks and Spencer and buy a packet of Earl Grey tea. Go back to where you're staying and boil a kettle of water. While it is coming to the boil, open the sealed packet and sniff. Careful - you may feel a bit dizzy, but this is in fact perfectly legal. When the kettle has boiled, pour a little of it into a tea pot, swirl it around and tip it out again. Put a couple (or three, depending on the size of the pot) of tea bags into the pot (If I was really trying to lead you into the paths of righteousness I would tell you to use free leaves rather than bags, but let's just take this in easy stages). Bring the kettle back up to the boil, and then pour the boiling water as quickly as you can into the pot. Let it stand for two or three minutes, and then pour it into a cup. Some people will tell you that you shouldn't have milk with Earl Grey, just a slice of lemon. Screw them. I like it with milk. If you think you will like it with milk then it's probably best to put some milk into the bottom of the cup before you pour in the tea.1 If you pour milk into a cup of hot tea you will scald the milk. If you think you will prefer it with a slice of lemon then, well, add a slice of lemon.

Drink it. After a few moments you will begin to think that the place you've come to isn't maybe quite so strange and crazy after all

Honestly not indifferent about tea, but any excuse to bring up Douglas Adams is a good excuse.

I'm about to drink a mug of raspberry black tea from Charleston Tea Plantation. That place is really neat and is not far from Charleston! You guys should go to it, if you are anywhere nearby. It is the only tea plantation in all of North America, if I remember correctly.

There's a pretty good amount of tea grown on Hawaii, but generally in smaller crops by a large number of smaller, independent growers.

I drink plenty of tea, of most varieties. I prefer loose leaf to bagged for hot tea. I usually stick to unsweetened iced tea for something cooler, but sweet tea is nice once in a while. Most of the best teas I've had came from Fauchon in Paris. There's a nice Japanese tea store in a mall near where we just moved though, so time to work my way through some of their selections.

I was weirded out when I moved here (AMERICA) and couldn't find a cheap electric kettle. Also, tea of the cup o' tea variety seems sort of weak here, even if I buy British brands. :\

Dilmah flavoured teas are wonderful, as are Lady Grey and Yorkshire.

I've been trying matcha green tea moxed with juice for a morning pick-me-up, and it's... OK.

Plain black or green tea is all I really care for.
Of course, there are so many different black and green teas.
Sometimes I snob a bit with loose tea. It tastes so good, but I am too lazy in the morning when I usually drink tea.

Filter cone method of brewing coffee.

    V66J3.png

Uses a paper filter, grounds, and hot water poured over'em for a while. Gives a pretty great cup of coffee, I got to try a pour-over cup in Seattle at PAX. Been meaning to try it, since you can pick up a simple plastic pour-over brewer and filters at the grocery store.
