Ironically, in order to consider this shooting a hate crime, one would be forced to acknowledge that anti-gay bigotry is Christianity.

If it's not, then this wasn't a religious hate crime, just a politically motivated shooting.

Oh don't get me wrong, he has plenty of blame, but I seriously doubt that it was "teasing" that made him step in, get in a heated argument, that lead to a fight, and him pulling a gun.

Just got home from seeing Paranorman. Fantastic movie by the way, and you'll never believe this, but they had an openly gay character. To avoid spoilers I won't go into more detail, suffice to say it's a tiny part of the movie, and awesome!

You know, as much flack as Mass Effect got, I like how they handled Cortez in 3.

I mean once you get over the shock of hearing a dude talk about the loss of his husband, he turns into just another person grieving for the loss of his spouse and trying to move on. Though I never romanced him do I don't know how bad the writing for that is, but given the friendship he has with Vega as well makes him seem "real" (Namely the joking between the two).

Never got to romance Cortez either, but I agree with you. The focus was on him mourning his spouse, like any normal widower would. The fact he was gay was almost an afterthought. No campy lisp, no focus on fashion, no flamboyancy whatsoever. I liked it. Add in the joke he made with Vega about the latter liking 'bears' (They were discussing vehicles, and Vega mentioned how much he like the Kodiak), made him someone both my fem and male Shepard could hang out with.

Actually the romance with Cortez was probably also the best written of them all as well. Just very genuine feeling. I mean, yea naked men and all, but it was more conversation than awkward bodies, and the conversation felt natural.

It's not that Frank Mandelbaum was particularly attached to the mother of Robert's child. (At the time Frank wrote his will, Robert didn't have a child.) He just didn't like that his son was gay. Happily, Robert Mandelbaum is uniquely suited to fight his father's twisted will. He's a judge.

From the New York Post:

... [the] will prompted Robert Mandelbaum, a Manhattan Criminal Court Judge, to argue in a court battle over the estate that his longtime partner Jonathan O’Donnell is the only “mother” their 16-month-old son, Cooper, knows.

... The Manhattan Surrogate’s Court has yet to approve a settlement to ignore Frank Mandelbaum’s demand as discriminatory and against New York law.

The settlement is the only way to solve the dispute over Cooper, Robert Mandelbaum claims in court papers, because the will “imposes a general restraint on marriage by compelling Robert Mandelbaum . . . to enter into a sham marriage” — which he says violates state law supporting marriage equality.

Frank Mandelbaum's widow, a loveless old biddy named Ann Freeman, has testified in court papers that Robert's son, 18-month old son, Cooper, is undeserving of his inheritance because he's being raised by gay parents.

Here's a question.

Insurance companies charge different premiums based on sex. How does that tie back to trans pre/post op people. Since I'm guessing they don't actually care what gender you define yourself as.

Or is the whole women live longer than men thing not actually based in biology?

(Specifically talking about life insurance here, but any insurance example is fair game)
