    Happenings!
Today is the day. The hummingbird scout should be returning at any time. There is no time to waste waiting, though. Discussion rages in the town hall as to what to do next. There is a deadlock, as usual. Averax is petitioning once again for a wall."We have the materials! Let me build the damned wall! I'll do it myself! It will be glorious! HAAAAAAAAAAAAONK" The councilors look at each other, and rub their weary eyes with their winged hands. "We have limited resources! We need to be improving our offensive capabilities. The best protection against counterattack is a dead enemy!" says Red Talon, remembering his wounded friend. "Hoo. Hoo. We have enough resources to do both of these things! Why not do both, and then we will provide ourselves with defenses and better attack capabilities?"says Erasmus. "What of the mage thrust? They are our greatest weapon at the moment!" says Stormcrow with obvious pride in his voice. "Not all the mages are here, crow. You may resume training when they have returned." "THE GREAT SKY LIZARD HAS BESTOWED MANY GIFTS UPON YOU, CROW. REFLECT AND BE THANKFUL ON THESE BEFORE ASKING FOR MORE BLESSINGS!" shouts SirFab, most loyal prophet of the the sky lizards. An audible groan escapes the rest of the cocks at the meeting.

With cooperation from the mages and other citizens, the walls around the town are built in no time at all. The walls are thick, tall, and sturdy looking. The wall is constructed at such an angle as to be easily climbable by anyone inside the town, but very difficult to scale from the other side. You have increased defense against any attack on your town! (Like this, but with like.. walls around stuff)
    800x400_460_Tree_house_2d_fantasy_architecture_village_picture_image_digital_art.jpg

The making of the helms is a more difficult task as each one must be specially fitted to the wearer due do different subspecies, head size, and the like. In the end everyone in town has a helm made for them. The mages grab some too, making sure to have theirs made of the special glowing rocks found in the piles. There is superstition that these may enhance magical abilities. Without further research, though, it remains superstition. The mages practice their forms with the helms equipped, eventually learning how to apply some basic elemental magic to the enhanced beaks. A strong peck followed by a small fireball is even more devastating than either technique used by itself. There is much promise here! Perhaps a combination of magic and physical combat would be advantageous? Helm get! You have increased attack power. The extra piercing damage will cause more casualties amongst your enemies.
    red-bird-5.jpg

Before sunset you see movement on the horizon. Soon you can make out the figures and realize that it is the hummingbird scout with mage escorts on each side of him. They land near the town square, and begin sharing their findings with the council and any townscocks present. Firstly, they say that the trees only number about 40 or so as far as they can tell. While doing flyovers of the camp, one pair saw the treeple go to the fallen ones and break them into pieces. They used the lumber from the corpses to build small tents. Inside the tents they put what looked like a plant bulb, possibly also taken from the corpses?

The hummingbird scout seems to stare off into the distance during most of the conversation. Erasmus asks him what he learned. "Hm? Oh. Yeah. Uh, they taught me how to get more stuff out of our scavenging runs."You get more resources from things! He goes back to staring into the distance, as if looking for someone, or listening to another conversation entirely. He idly scratches at his left shoulder as he stares off. "Can.. can I go now? I'm really tired." The council agrees, and the hummingbird flies back to his house.

I agree, it should be difficult. I was just wondering if, say, we kill half of them, will the remaining half be more open to subjugation? Or will the DC always remain 15?

If it's the first, attack the treeple first. If it's the latter, enslave our mobile homes.

    1) Military might , # attack the abominations, break their spirit to make them docile servants. Servants to the great city: Cockstantinople

More military is better, it is already combining with magic in the form of fire beaks. Another level and we will have freezing talon strikes. And then we can try another level of magic, get some lighting attacks, then another level of military to become Street Fighter's Blanka, but with feathers.

    COMBAT PLAN FOR NOW
Ok, so here's how it's gonna go.
I will roll attack dice to see if your attack succeeds. Your roll vs. their roll. Straight up.

    IF YOU WIN
If you are attacking a forward force, you can kill up to 50% of their population. If you attack them at home, it goes up to 100%.
After the d100 roll to see their percentage loss, I then add modifiers. For every offensive upgrade you have, they take +5% more losses.
For every defensive tech they have, they take 5% less casualties.

I then roll a d25. This is how many casualties the attacking side suffers, percentage-wise. I then factor in your defensive upgrades. 5% reduction for each one. THIS NUMBER WILL NOT EVER BE LARGER THAN 2/3 OF THE LOSING SIDE'S CASUALTIES.

    IF YOU LOSE
If you are attacking, you can lose up to 25% of your population total.
Then I calculate losses for the defenders using the same up-to-2/3 method listed above.

    Got critiques? Let me know!

    COMBAT ROLLS
Do you succeed in combat? 1d20 = 20! Holy shit! They lose 25% more guys since you attack the acorns off of those bastards. Their defenses? Bypassed like a mother.

    Your attack roll = 17
    Their defense roll = 4

    D100 damages roll for defenders = 43. 43% casualties
Including the roll of 20 gives us 43*1.25 = 53.75% Casualties
+15% extra on top (Fire magic, NEW WATER MAGIC, Helms!)
    53.75 * 1.15 = 61.8125%
    ~62% casualties for the treeple.
    =25 trees are felled!

    1d25 for losses on attackers = 6. 6% casualties
    -5% due to helms = 5.7% casualties
    ~6%
    =4.86 casualties.
    ~5 dead birds

The decision is easy. Your people are itching for a fight now that they have the promised knowledge from the treeple. Despite feeble protests by the seemingly ever-itchy hummingbird, it is decided that the giant cocks will bring burning vengeance to the living wood. Donning their helms and taking flight, the birds sing war chants as they travel to pump themselves up. They swoop down quickly and land on the edge of the village. The leader from before strides slowly out to greet the birds.

He manages to say "Sssssskylingsssss...... what can we do for y-" before being cut off. Literally. A powerful fire wheel conjured by four birds instead of the normal four separates his top and bottom halves rather neatly. The sizzle of sap is all the sound that can be heard as the trees realize what is happening. The deafening shout echoes around the cocks as before, but this time they are unfazed. Stormcrow leads the mage thrust from the front as Red Talon and Dark Shrike each pick a flank to attack from. The maneuver is nearly flawless. Trees have holes pecked in them by the warriors, only to have gouts of fire pour into the new openings shortly thereafter. A mage does a water technique instead of a fire technique in the heat of the moment. He notices a tree drying out quickly. He then realizes he is pulling the water out of the living tree! They burn even better this way! It takes a lot of energy and concentration, but he keeps at it. He shouts out the information to the mages near him. They take up the new tactic and use it with brutal efficiency. In their focused state, they fail to see a group of trees coming up behind them. Helm or no helm, they are pummeled to a fine paste in the ground. But not before the others learn of their findings. Two mallards apparently grabbed the wrong helms. They go to peck the trees and their helmets simply come off of their heads. In their panic to pick up the helm and put it back on, they each catch a devastating blow from a tree limb. Neither of them will rise again.

After all is said and done, the cocks realize that they have wiped out a majority of the treeple. Pride fills each breast as the cocks realize that their training wasn't in vain. Truly, they were the superior species today. The question remains now about what to do with the surviving treeple. The cocks head back to town to reconvene the council and decide upon their next steps.

During the meeting, the hummingbird scout crashes into the roof of the building and flutters around in a blind panic. He is mumbling something. That's not his voice. What is going on? Suddenly the cock stands erect, tilts his head back, and screams as millions upon millions of spores spray from his gaping beak.
The spores seem to be independently animated. They travel in small clusters throughout the town. They infect
    1d10=3
cocks, who also freeze in place. As one, a voice emanates from all of the cocks at once. "YOU BETRAAAAAAYED USSSSSSS. RETRIBUTION WILL NOT BE SSSSSSSWIFT. IT WILL NOT BE MERCIFUL." As the voice cuts off, the four birds all drop to the ground, stone dead.
