When I was little I was nuts about Leogs, but it was around middle school when I started to get into erector sets, and eventually k'nex. I was nuts for those things. You can't make stuff the same way as legos, of course; Nothing beats a fully built lego building, but anything made from legos would fall apart under any pressure, whereas I made a dense-ass k'nex cube that could support the weight of a 200 lb man standing on it. I reassembled that cube a while ago and let Australlia (My best friend's kid) have her way with it, and haven't seen it in a while.
I'd already gotten a decent collection of those things, when my Mom bought the original Big Ball Factory for Christmas in 94 or 95. Soon as I heard those parts rattling in the box I knew something epic was waiting under that wrapping paper.
I must have spent all Christmas day working on that thing, and probably most of the night, assuming I wasn't finished with it before bedtime. God, that was a fun Christmas.
I can't say for sure that, if I had a nice wad of spare cash and happened to think about it, I wouldn't buy up a newer version of the BBF, for the sake of nostalgia. Maybe get a roller coaster. I never had one of those.
Man, I fucking loved my K'nex. I had some the sets for buildings/playsets for the space-men. They had wars with my Bionicles and all was right in that world.
Oh man, and mech warrior kits, holy balls those were cool.
