Quarol, you're still holding onto the nodule after the impact. It was the entire reason you couldn't do much but take the damage. What are you doing?

Vladire, as you're attempting to pry Astrafel free from the arm, you hear a scraping sound behind you and turn just in time to get a faceful of shield. The Shield impact: 1d6 = 1 damage (before armor) may not hurt much, but it knocks you flying.

Astrafel, the skeletal arm, as part of a somewhat circuitous plan to get its spear back, winds up and throws you at Lojainne. Lojainne, what are you doing about this?

Blennid, you manage to get free of the husks, and they look a little confused about where you've gone. The suit of armor, however, is a little more on the ball, and pulls out a wicked-looking axe. What are you doing?

Rather than moving out the way, the paladin tries to catch the flying bard.

Blennid's going to do what he can to keep either the remaining husks or the hole between him and that axe.

Assuming that's possible, he will lash out in a rage at the husks.

Blennid, lashing out is just something you spend a hold to do. You dive back into the pile, snarling and snapping, and by the time you're done you've torn all the husks apart.

But you lose yourself to the frenzy so you don't really see the suit of armor pitching its axe at you, and it clips your back for Armor axe: 1d8 = 1 damage (before armor, so it's probably nothing). Your instincts spin you around to face it - give me another roll+wis.

Lojainne, you catch Astrafel. This necessitates dropping the greatspear, and the arm, following up on its throw, dives in and scoops the spear up. What are you and the bard doing?

"I guess that's one way to fly to the moon," Astrafel says, bowing his head to Lojainne. "Thank you, dear lady. You are peerless in strength and resolve."

With that, he transitions into an old elven chant, one about courage in battle. The words seem to gather around Lojainne, adding to the strength she already has.

Blennid, you manage to take control of the wolverine's white-hot rage long enough to realize that the armor is holding its follow-through for an awfully long time. You don't quite entirely get out of the way as the axe returns by necrotic impulse to its hand, but you soften the blow enough that it barely registers.

    (Armor axe (glancing blow): 1d8-1d6 = -3)

    What are you doing?

Vladire, now that there isn't just one target rattling around anymore it's going to be a bit tough to get some free room to line up a shot. The walker is facing in your general direction, but working together with Brand you may be able to confuse it long enough to take more careful aim.

Quarol, give me some +dex for this deft act of thievery.

Severik, I'm waiting to resolve your damage until Quarol's done, just so you know.

Lojainne, you slip past the spear, which the arm is still trying to get a grip on, and hammer the arm once, twice, three times. It falls apart in a rain of metal plates and bone fragments.

Astrafel, your pipes are back in proper form, aren't they? I'll assume you're not using the lacquered songbook unless you say otherwise. It's not going to bite you, I promise.

Wolverine form or not, Blennid is thoroughly confused by the actions of this ineffectual axe armor. Assuming it doesn't charge him aggressively, he takes a step back to look it over and try to figure out what it is.

Quarol, you pry the nodule loose, and there's a bit of a shuddering noise, followed by an absolute din. Everyone outside can see it a bit better than you - the scraps of armor that shielded the parts of the bone giant are all coming loose and dropping to the cave floor. The underlying skeleton is still intact, but much less protected.

Incidentally, you were standing on some of the metal plates underneath the ribcage. Now, for obvious reasons, you're not. But what are you doing?

Severik, your blow bites deep into the bone giant's spine, but its thrashing around combined with the suddenly unstable footing sends you somersaulting across the cave, crashing painfully to earth for Impact damage: 1d8 = 3 damage (before armor).

Blennid, the armor catches the axe and then rushes forward, just as you back away to reassess. You're caught a bit off-guard by the suddenness of it all, and both you and the armor go over the lip of the rock chimney. Gravity says "hello". What are you doing?

If he has time during the fall, Blennid will drop his remaining hold from this shape and shift to sparrow again. ("Forgiveness" roll for that below.)

If there's clearly not enough time for that, he will stay in wolverine form and do his best to use the suit of armor to cushion his landing.

Vladire whistles Brand forward to harrass the walker, snapping at its heels, while Vladire follows close behind, throwing rocks and pushing at it, hoping to confuse the walker and bully it into a defensive stance long enough to line up a clear shot.

    --

    Defy Danger + DEX + Ferocity: 2d6+2+3 = 13

Is that the right roll? It seems a bit loaded.

  • Options
    GlaziusGlazius Registered User regular
Blennid, you can certainly turn into a sparrow while you're falling and spend one hold to flit out of the armor's grasp. It hits the ground, but there wasn't really too much operational for the impact to damage.

It pitches its axe in the general direction of Lojainne and Astrafel. Wonder what they're doing.

Vladire, you add Ferocity to the damage you do when you work with your companion to attack something, subtract Armor from damage you take, add Cunning to track, discern realities, and parley, and add Instinct to the roll of someone trying to affect you. So it wasn't the right roll, but a 10 still works. You've got a moment of time to line up a shot at the walker - or anything else, really. What are you doing?

Lojainne, Astrafel is in exactly the wrong position: he's right in the path of the axe, and too flat-footed to dodge. If you're quick about it, you can at least manage to get hit instead, but you haven't got time to set up a defense - you'll take full damage from the shot.

    What are you doing?

Good enough. Well, a hit from the Armor axe: (1d8 = 8 damage before armor) costs you - it strikes you square-on, and then the armor concentrates, calling the axe back to its hand. What are you doing?

Vladire lines up a careful shot at the walker as Brand continues to harry it, looking for just the right spot to bring it down.

    --

Called Shot on walker (legs): 2d6+2 = 12

The "+3" on damage is for Brand's ferocity. Hopefully this is the right spot for it.

@Glazius - does the sparrow have any other useful moves, aside from fly up and out of danger? Maybe fly around an enemy's head to distract and annoy, or perch on a bard's shoulder and sing with him, to aid his song?

  • Options
    GlaziusGlazius Registered User regular
Brand isn't trained in fighting monsters, but all the reachable anatomy is still humanoid for it enough to matter. He grabs onto one of the many tiny bones in the bone giant's feet and rips it clear, and your arrow does the same thing on the other side, Vladire. The walker is now hobbled and slow-moving.

Blennid, if you want to spend hold as a sparrow to give Astrafel +1 forward, straight up, it's too compelling not to allow. But the sparrow's other moves are "fly out of danger", "flit through narrow confines", and "obtain food and shelter through divine providence", and that last probably isn't going to come into play today.

Quarol, you manage to hang on inside this thing's ribcage just fine. What are you doing in there?

Lojainne, you take off one of the arms of the animated suit, and while the armor staggers a bit it doesn't go down. In fact, it takes advantage of your unbalanced swing to shove you along the cavern floor. You manage to stay on your feet the whole time, and wonder why for about five seconds, before you take stock of where you are and see the half-giant's massive glaive swinging straight at you. Lojainne, you do manage to brace for impact just before the Skeleton glaive: (2d10k1 = 10 damage) collides with you. Take half damage (after you subtract your armor), but the force of the blow lifts you off your feet and sends you flying. You end up pretty much across the cave, by the hobbled walker. What are you doing?

Astrafel, you knit Lojainne back together just a bit, but now that she's gotten knocked away there's not much between you and the giant skeleton, and it shifts its grip on the glaive, swinging it back in your direction. What are you doing?

Quarol, if you're trying to snap something by pure strength, that's a good roll. Let's see here.

Okay, you hook Piotor into two of the bone giant's ribs and some point that, to all outward appearances, does not exist, and start swinging on the last length of chain until something snaps, and one of the arms stiffens up.

Everyone takes +1 ongoing to dodge this thing's attacks, but the other two anchor points give way and you tumble free awkwardly as Piotor retracts. You roll well clear of the bone giant, taking Impact damage: 1d6 6 damage before armor.
