This past winter I was walking around at the ice skating rink downtown. There was a group of kids/teens dressed in a mix of black and florescent clothing and make-up with orange horns on. They were screaming and spitting and doing odd dances. It brought back terrible memories of friends I lost to Invader Zim. I went home terrified and made a decision to never read or watch Homestuck. Am I missing out?

I think people who end up doing that kind of thing would do that shit whether it was homestuck, invader zim, ponies, or anything else that they happened to attach themselves to
I like homestuck because it's an interesting story told in an interesting way, but it's really just a matter of personal opinions.
The thing is the crazies always existed the just latched on to Homestuck, Homestuck didn't create them. After Homestuck ends they'll move on to some other thing. Probably some kind of anime.

If not, you're fine. It's a long story that's overwrought in a lot of ways but it plays with the webcomic medium, is a lot of fun, and the author is really good at writing the way young people relate to each other. If you've ever been really good friends with someone on the internet, you would find something to like in Homestuck
