My GP gave me some drugs first. He didn't even mention a therapist.
Although, this wasn't the first time I came in with the symptoms... it was in response to a long, long situation and we'd already gone through all other likely (and some unlikely) causes and ended up left with depression.
Had my living situation been a bit different, it probably would have helped completely.
