NOT A CONCERN
-The Wii not having super-rad awesome-mapped graphics
-The Wii being a "casual" console
-The Wii not being filled-to-bursting with 3rd party titles
-The 360 having a "traditional" controller
-The 360 skewing towards "hardcore" gamers
-The development times/costs for 360 games being totally huge
-Attach rates
-Sales numbers
A MAJOR CONCERN
-Trying to find the time to try out and enjoy PGR4, Metroid Prime 3 and Phantom Hourglass before Mass Effect and No More Heroes come out -- and I haven't even gotten close to finishing skate. and RE:4 Wii Edition yet. God help me if I actually succumb to the hype, try Halo 3 and wind up liking it.
Seriously, arguing over whether a Wii or a 360 is better is looking more and more like arguing if a Coke is better than a hamburger. "HAMBURGER DON'T HAVE CAFFEINE" "COKE DON'T HAVE FLAME BROIL" whatever shut up.
You are claiming that for example Silent Hill 1 doesn't stop beeing a great game with a great atmosphere just because Silent Hill 2 has better gfx. Ofcourse not. But if SH2 had been released on a different console as SH1 on the PS1 you wouldn't have had that WOW effect that SH1 had.
What is stupid is saying "YEAH? WELL RESIDENT EVIL 1 HAS SHITTY GFX FOR 2007 BUT IT STILL WAS AN AWSOME GAME SO THERE. "
Please, be a little more coherent.
...what? Try again in English, please?
I'm not trying to be dick, but I have absolutely no idea what that sentence is supposed to mean.
EDIT: Hey, at least it's not just me.
Response:
1. So what? We already knew all that!
2. Who cares; a console isn't judged by primarily by its technical merits, it is judged primarily by the games that can be played on it, and the types of experiences it brings to the table.
Oh, and one other thing -- the author questions the viability of the Wii "once the 360 and PS3 prices drop to near $200 levels."
What. The. Fuck. First of all, it will be a very long time before that happens. Second of all, why would Nintendo not respond with its own price drops?
How will the Wii handle the scenario once the PS3 is $200? Gee, I don't know, maybe the Wii will also have dropped in price by that time.
Shit, an $80 Wii probably wouldn't be out of the question by the time the PS3 gets to be $200.

Hey.
Hey guys.
Who the fuck cares?
All of you who worry that Nintendo's relatively weaker hardware will stifle this industry, it won't. Sales numbers will speak to publishers and developers more than whose system is strongest. Buy the games you want to buy, others will buy the games they want to buy and the market will follow suit. Nobody is going to change their mind because you made a stunning, jaw dropping, life-altering point on the internet.
Wii doesn't have immersive enough graphics for you? Don't buy it. The 360 doesn't have simpler pick-up-and-game experiences that your grandmother can enjoy? Don't buy it.
Edit: ^^ And what he said.
or Brawl. 4854.6102.3895 Name: NU..
And yeah, the Wii isn't as powerful as the 360 or PS3, but I think the best looking games from the PS2/XBox/Gamecube generation like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Wind Waker, and Resident Evil 4 still look plenty nice today so I'm fine with the Wii having around 50% more visual power than the Gamecube. Yeah, High definition is nice, but superior art direction will trump it every time.

Bad Idea: Arguing over Game Consoles.
Can't we just like what we want to like anymore, or do we have to make sure that everyone likes/dislikes the same things that we do?

Aww come on ... don't ruin the guy's fun. "What If" is the best game available for the PS3 until MGS4 comes out.
I bought it because I grew up with nintendo / snes and because it's innovative.
...and because I think sony and microsoft are evil

That's going to be all I need to be happy with my console. So I just picked the console that tailored towards my needs. Simple as that!
I've sort of grown up on Nintendo games and they haven't let me down yet. I don't particularally care about the higher horsepower and what-not, but I understand that mine is a very opinionated viewpoint.
So basically what I'm saying is that I buy the console with the games that appeal to me the most. Wonder how many other people do that.
I don't have kids, and I have plenty of money. I bought the Wii strictly for the innovation it brought to the table, and I'm sure quite a lot of people did the same.
Honestly, I was getting sick of gaming after last gen. After a couple decades of playing the same games over and over again, with shiny new coats of paint, I was just bored. In fact, I would credit Nintendo's innovation for my purchase of the 360 as well. If it weren't for the Wii, I wouldn't be on these boards right now, I'd probably have found a new hobby.
e: @ Joshua: Lots of people, me included. I could care less about system specs, I just want to play fun games. Plus the Smash Brothers point. If that was the only game that was ever released for the Wii, I'd still consider it a good purchase.

Man, I can't wait till they port that Pac Man VS game to the DS and/or Wii.

Actually you can get Pacman Vs in the Namco collection that they just released for the DS.

I mean, sure, the DS has this new control scheme. But in reality there's nothing special about it - it just uses technology that has existed for years. Ooooh, touch screen, how innovative! Meanwhile, you have the PSP, which is pretty much as powerful as a PS2 and in handheld form. Yeah, the controls aren't anything new, but they feel great and they're what hardcore gamers are used to!
And the games. The fuck does the DS even have? Super Mario 64 DS, a bad rehash of a dated game. Feel the Magic: XY/XX , which is the most retarded thing I've ever played and returned. And what do we have to look forward to, Warioware and Yoshi Touch & Go? Amazing. The only good things to buy for the system now or in the near future are first-party games, and even those look like ass.
Now look at the PSP - totally superior in every way. Lumines, Metal Gear Acid, Need for Speed, Tiger Woods, Tony Hawk, Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer. And those are all just in the first few months! Not to mention the PSP is ushering in the UMD, which I guarantee you will become the greatest portable format for music and movies since the CD/DVD.
Sure, the DS has a fun control scheme, I guess, but no one's done anything with it. They're just the same old games with a stupid new controls tacked on. And they're much uglier, too, given the resolution of the screen and the processing power of the hardware. DS fanboys say that the system can look good with good art design, but they seem to forget that the PSP can look even better with mediocre art design! All the DS has over the PSP is two ugly screens rather than one pretty one, and that's not that great an advantage if you ask me.
Yup. You heard it here first: the Nintendo DS is a lame duck console. Anyone who buys it are just doing it on hype and brand loyalty, and they're realize soon enough how little their "innovative" control scheme matters in the grand scheme of the market. They'll come to regret their decision when what little third-party support Nintendo has dries up and no games come out for the system in months. Real hardcore gamers will flock to the PSP - that's where the best graphics and games are. Sony to buy Nintendo in 5 years.
...
Oh, we were talking about the Wii and the 360 and/or PS3? Huh.
Lulz... Rocket Surgery...
Standard response to some overbearing proof: That's the handhead market. It's different.
It's out? HOLY CRAP!

Yeah it should be out.. I'm not sure I'm sold on it, but the collection is only $20.

THANK YOU.
The next time someone asks me for a perfect example of a strawman, I'm totally quoting this.
If it is so incredibly obvious that the handheld market is so completely separate and distinct from the console market (and it is), then why were developers and publishers so quick to treat the DS/PSP situation as if it were some extenuation of the console market?
"Er, well, the handheld market is totally different from the console market, this is obvious. But since we have the leader of the console market coming to handhelds, then obviously, we should ditch the decade-long market leader of the handheld market in favor of the other guy."
Steam ID: slashx000______Twitter: @bill_at_zeboyd______ Facebook: Zeboyd Games
I love me my strawmen.
But seriously, I understand that they're two separate markets and everything. I just wanted to be humorous
(Also, processing power isn't really that big a deciding factor in console races, from what I can tell. The PS1, PS2, and DS were all much weaker than the competition, but put out some beautiful games with arguably the most qualitative and certainly the most quantative game experiences of their generations).
edit: Also, wouldn't have made the strawman if I didn't think there were some (many?) lessons to be learned in the handheld market. While the two have much different histories, they're still both video game markets, after all.
Basically, the OP is a known quantity. This has been said before. Everything else is just sales thread on a non-numbers day.
"Wii is fun."
"Nuh-uh."
"Yea-uh."
"Waggle, waggle."
"Gonna sell my fictional Wii, go back to playing generic shooter number 67."
"Rabble, rabble."

It's out ... I saw it in a store yesterday. You totally stole my witty retort while I was grocery shopping.
Anyhow, Squashua, when I said "wokka wokka wokka" I meant:
wokka wokka wokka
See, the Muppets are more graphically powerful than Pac-Man, but they're also more "kiddie", so you're just confusing things.
