Has anyone seen the Black Keys live? I have tickets for tonight's show, and I'm waffling back and forth between excitement and the desire to stay in bed and watch football all day. Someone get me hyped?
Hey Rosetta was awesome! They played half of their new album (spoiler alert @Fearghaill - it's gonna be amazing) and played until they got cut off. Earlier in the week, the snobby rich folks who live nearby got offended by music playing audibly at some point when the sun wasn't up, so they lodged complaints with the city. The festival has had to be super early with their sound cutoffs and it is frustrating, because the band's set was just so good up until they had to stop one song into the encore. Ugh. I think I'm going to file a complaint about the complainers.
Let me know how the Black Keys are if you went, @cornell!
Yea, thank you all for encouraging me to go. I was five rows from the front, they were absolutely unbelievable. If any of you get a chance to catch them on this tour, GO.
I'm a little nervous and excited about an upcoming show.
Trapt, that's right... Trapt. Is playing here, and they're doing their entire first album front to back with no stops unless they need to change instruments, just one long ~45 minute song.
Now, I'm not a huge Trapt fan. In fact, you might say I have zero interest. I'm going for work.
But, this idea of how they're going to do their set is pretty awesome. I'm a little jazzed to see how this goes down. I'm nervous 'cause it could be boring as fuck and I'll wish I was anywhere else and that's a bad feeling.
You need to really like a band to go straight through an album, and the crowd does too.
If you go to a show with an audience that's fully on board with the band and you're singing along, cheering, interacting, etc. then it would be pretty great. See: the show i saw yesterday. Of course concept albums lend themselves well to being played straight through too.
But if you don't like the band and have to sit through deep cuts of their album you're probably not gonna have much fun.

I listen to music by album 99% of the time. I'll be all "I'm in the mood for some Gorillaz", so on goes Demon Days. Album finishes, I'll throw on Blood Sugar Sex Magic, when that's played through I'll press play on Music for the Jilted Generation.

S'just how I do.
Same here, I never just play one song or even worse put a while bunch of shit on random. I usually have an artist or even a specific album I'm in the mood for, so that's what I listen to and when I'm done I turn it all off.
Oh shit I forgot the other good part of that coheed show.
Thank You Scientist was basically the perfect opening act for them and they are super good. 7 piece prog act with a violin, sax, and trumpet in addition to the standard rock instruments, and all of them are super talented musicians. Their first album comes out next Tuesday and I'll be picking it up.
Those guys were fantastic. It was great when they brought the sax and trumpet guys back out for the encore too. I was also gonna pick up that album, thanks for reminding me!
went to a wedding on saturday night, DJ played this, and I wanted to yell at him for being a day early, but I was too busy grooving out
best worst song of the night though was one that the best man/brother of the groom teased his little brother about liking as a kid as part of the wedding speech, so it was pretty much a given that it had to be played during the dance
Not going to lie, I love Poison. It's a hairband I never outgrew.
Somewhere I have a picture of a couple of us drinking with Poison when they wanted to rent out our crummy little pool-hall "regular" bar for two hours. Our friend/regular bartender decided that prying us off our barstools and dealing with the attendant shit-giving for weeks to come was going to be a bigger pain than just letting us stay, as long as "we didn't bother them or make fun of them." Weirdly, last I heard, that bartender still was sort of pen-pals with Bret Michael's mom.

there aren't more than a handful of albums i like from first song to last
all of my playlists on spotify are a bunch of different songs united under one "feel"
like the one i listen to at night while things wind down (which is called "Coolin'") has lots of slower, down tempo, dreamy or dark stuff but by a bunch of different artists, though one artist can show up multiple times
like kanye
almost all of my playlists have copious amounts of kanye west

So can you friendly, helpful folks help me fill my phone with a bit of rap? Lately my jam has been rap from my days in high school & college - late 80s to early 90s stuff (Dre/Snoop/Biggie/Biz Markie) with a copy of Yeezus mixed in that Google gave me free one time.
What can folks recommend? If at all possible if you can list the artist/song with any youtube clips it would be great as I'm at work and can't do the video thing right now.
Run The Jewels (El-P & Killer Mike) are my favourite rap dudes right now.
Put out an album last year and have a new one about to drop soon.
Their solo stuff is worth checking out as well.

Kinda hope he tours off this one, just because I'd really like to see him live and, well - to be frank - time's gonna run out on that at some point.

I just played through a couple Metropolis mixes last night - that's getting added to my permanent line up, for sure.
I know their music is completely ridiculous and all but damn were they good live.
