    Honestly I don't know how to answer that. There are a lot of people who know very little who are here in the program, and I can't imagine the amount of hand gestures and slow English they're using to get by. I personally get by fine as far as making friends and purchasing things go.

    I'v got the very basics down, I can read hiragana haltingly, introduce myself, ask for a name, telephone number, etc. But beyond that I'm having a hard time.

    Of course I haven't even finished my application to JET yet, so who knows if I'll even need it
