I got the black, and the front translucent part looks like green tint, but its fairly nice looking.

I had problems with the battery having no charge at first, thought I got DoA'ed, just had to let it charge. Im really happy with mine from woot so far.

Edit: I love battery advice wars. Noone really knows the best care for the things. Everyone I worked with at radioshack, besides learning about memory on certain batteries, didnt know shit about them. listening to my managers basicly tell people to stand on one leg and hop around and their batteries will last longer is a great pastime. I really think there should be a law that if you state something about battery recharge wivestale, you should post supporting links so we can all laugh at those people too.....

Also looking up battery replacements comes to about, $15-20 for a Zune, so even if you battery has gimped lifespan its still a great price for a 30gb mp3 player. Also looking at harddrive upgrades it looks to run about $90-110 for a 60gb HD that will fit/work with the Zune aka a toshiba MK6008GAH, around $110-160 for an 80gb MK8009GAH, and about $190-210 for a 100gb MK1011GAH

Anyone know how to order this to Canada? They ship internationally but I can't input my Canadian address.

Who told you they ship internationally? From the site itself...

----Why isn't my state/country/province listed; do you ship internationally?
--No, we do not ship outside of the continental United States at this time. We do not ship to Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, nor to Maggie's Nipples, Wyoming or Assinippi, Massachusetts at this time.

Edit: Its on the main site, www.woot.com

Opps, I meant in response to the Buy.com 30gb Zunes.

Same thing... from the shipping FAQ : Buy.com ships within the continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii only.

Really too bad, I wanted to buy it too.

Guess I'm emailing my American relatives tonight...

Bolded for being COMPLETELY WRONG. It is never a good idea to leave chargable batteries plugged in, once the charge is full remove it from the charger. Leaving it plugged in is actually the best way to kill the battery, I have expirence with this on my 3rd gen iPod, both my roommates laptons, my parents old digital camera, and my parents old GPS/Palm.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_battery#Storage_temperature_and_charge

According to Wiki (and every other source anywhere on the internet I could find through Google), storing at 40% charge at 0 degrees Celsius is best for batteries you don't use often, but repeated partial discharges and recharges is the best way to go for batteries in constant use (like in an mp3 player or cell phone), and that you should never go below 40% if you can avoid it.

The guys in this forum that want to go 12 or 14 hours without stopping ... which is a sure way to kill an LI battery.

I have so many friends who killed their phone batteries by treating them like NiMH because they simply don't know any better.

I think this is how MS plans on getting the Zune to be popular as fuck. I mean, sure, you can get a 10 gig ipod or whatever for $100, but here is a full size 30gig Zune for the same price.

Well, this isn't an official price drop, it's package stores etc selling the stock of Zunes for a cheap price in anticipation of a sharp drop in demand.

Right, but who has been giving Woot factory refurbished Zunes?

God, I feel really dumb for buying a Zune for $250 now....
Anyway, it is a great device, and I don't get why people seem iffy on it.
Sure, the software sucks noodles, but the device itself is a godsend.
I can't STAND the iPod click wheel, I think the d-pad like interface is much more natural (Probably from years of video games).
Also, the Zune Pass is the best thing ever (Especially when you go to as many concerts as I do where they hand out 14 day trials like candy).

Well sure, but at any point in time, even 6 months ago, I'm sure they'd love to unload their entire stock. It's Woot that's seizing the opportunity to sell them for cheap.

ive had mine for a year now, the only MP3 player that has made me really *want* to get a new one is the new zune. the new touch was cool until i saw the price, i really wish it would have a HDD option. at the same time i like having buttons on my MP3 player, as i change the songs mostly in the pocket (the place that i live has up to/over 17feet of rain a year...)

Woot now has the brown Zune for $85 after shipping.

The main disadvantage being, if you drop your zune in the toilet, you might have trouble distinguishing it from other floaties.

The brown refurb is on sale now for 80$ a coworker just bought one. I wish I had waited out and gotten that instead of the black, but im still happy with my purchase

Just got my (white) Zune this weekend. It's sweet! I love the display, the large album art, and the FM tuner is awesome.

Can I use the Zune as a portable hard drive for moving my stuff between a pc and a linux box?

I mean, I read that it'd be pretty difficult, but I haven't found anything that says it's completely impossible. Is there some homebrew firmware or something for that?

If so, I'll probably grab this brown one.

Is the Zune software similar to iTunes, in that if you plug it into a computer, it automatically updates even if it's an empty filelist, thus wiping your once full mp3 player?

Kinda, it associates itself with the cumputer you plug it into, and will clear the system if you hook it onto an empty computer and it associates with it.

  • DarkPrimusDarkPrimus Registered User regular
Is there an easy way to tell it not to associate with the computer, and/or be able to load songs on it without having to go through the software and flagging all the mp3s you have that you want?

Drag and drop is so much more convenient than having to resort my mp3s.... AGAIN.

This or the other Zune thread had some registry edits. They met with mixed results, worked fine for me though.

Yeah .... you drag your mp3s onto the program and create a library. Drag from files, drop onto Zune program, hit sync button.

    Well, that was fun.

I went looking for the Urge music service, so I could do the Zune subscription music thing, and found that Urge had grown into Rhapsody. So, I started up a Rhapsody trial, then realized that Rhapsody wasn't compatible with Zune. I had to call India and hassle someone a couple of times in order to cancel my subscription.

Then I looked in my Zune software and saw that the Zune Pass is now available through the Microsoft Marketplace, and am now enjoying that. Fucking "Urge", or whatever that shit was, doesn't even work on Zunes anymore.
