Router can't connect to the internet

I got a new router, a Linksys one. I plugged it in, followed all the directions, have all the cables hooked up right, but it keeps giving me the message that it can't hook up to the internet, and that I should turn the modem off and on. I did this, but it didn't help.

How do I fix it?


They cast a shadow like a sundial in the morning light. It was half past 10.

    Does your modem also double as a router? If it does you will need to disable this feature.

    More information is required.

    It's the second router we've used with this computer. The last one didn't have an arial, so I got a new one. This one, a Linksys broadband G router, won't detect an internet connection, even though the lights are lit up, and the modem is on and functioning.

    EDIT: Nevermind. I fixed it.

    I have this same router, I haven't had any problems whatsoever. Are you sure you have it in the right mode? Do you have DLS or cable?
