Valkun, if you wanted to give me (or someone else if they were up for it), something non-secret, like the move orders, I'd be more than willing to take some of the load of your shoulders, and just pass you what fights need to be run and that sort of thing.
Here are the designations for the planets of the Octovian Star Empire.
Planet located at F3 is hereby named Decapod X
Planet located at A2 is hereby named Omicron Persei 8
By the way, watching two low point frigates fight is godawful boring.
Ships circle each other for four minutes until they get at just the right angle from each other, take shots that miss completely, rinse and repeat.
The update tonight might have to be pushed back until around 5PM tomorrow. Have a test I'm really not well prepared for and would like to actually get some sleep tonight. The deadline will be extended until midnight for Monday.
As soon as I get home (Around 5PM) I'll post an update. If everyone gets their turns in by 10:00 PM I'll go ahead and try to do another update. Otherwise, the deadline will be postponed until 10:00PM tomorrow. Sorry about the delays, but real life takes precedence and it's taking a lot longer to go through turns then I expected.
For example, it takes a maximum of n!*7ish comparisons just to see if there is any combat in a turn. And considering there are give or take about thirty fleets in the game at the moment, that number is huge. I'm going to be switching over to drawing the maps on a multilayered graphics program instead of mspaint which should allow me to simply see where conflicts arise and redraw the map more easily.
Also, some people forgot about the -1 move for new ships rule, these fleets moved one less then what was asked for by these players.
4. New ships will have 1 less move then they would normally be alotted for their first turn. This does not include ships created at the start of the game.
Another setback ^.^

Yeah, as I had 6 speed ships moving 6 squares and that rule was implemented before turn 1, I had an illegal turn.
I gave my ships the extra necessary speed and accounted for the point difference and sent that off to Valkun. The only problem is that that means the points used for Turn 2 were greater than the amount I had. I gave him updated information though. Hopefully he'll be able to run that last square of movement without a problem.
I apologize, I must've expanded the ship points and completely glossed over the rest of that section.
Argh, its 6:00 here and I still have to wait two hours. Blasted PST... I'll be at soccer, and won't end up being able to check until 9:30, giving me all of 30 minutes... wait, no! 3 hours and 30 minutes =D. Forget I said anything ^.^
EDIT: Wow I'm an idiot. I'm in Eastern Time zone, not Atlantic... so that means the 5PM time is in three minutes!! Wait, shit, I'm leaving in five. My life sucks.

Actually, I'm almost done drawing the map in GraphicsGale which gives me all the functionality I need. Trying to draw it in MSPaint was perhaps not the brightest idea for something of this complexity.
Sorry guys, but it looks like this experiment is a failure. I've been working on this turn for six hours. I just don't have time to do this every night. It's not very complicated, but there is a ton of information to process and check against itself. I'll see if I can come up with a simplified version.
My intuition tells me that if the map was replaced with a more abstract idea of worlds without location, the number of calculations required would be greatly diminished.

Wow, six hours already? I would imgaine the turns then would take longer to complete with more ships flying around the map, and I guess it doesn't help when new ship designs are being made by players every turn.
Man, had I not missed the move penalty, this turn would have been ridiculous for me, pretty sure I would end up with 8 planets.
In any case, it was actually very fun while it lasted Valkun, and we all appreciate your effort. We seem to have more than enough programmers here that could help if you need it.
yeah 6 hours seems a bit much to ask someone to calculate a turn. Are you checking fleets as they progress each square then seeing if another fleet is in that square at the same time? mabye it would be easier to assume fleets can only engage with each other on the square they end up in at the end of the turn? (would then only have to compare the ending points of all fleets vs each other(then there is still the matter of resoving fights, but i image that is alot more fun than figuring if fleet A passed the route of fleet C on the third movement unit of that turn)
Grab all PM's and parse all the different messages into Fleet Creations and Fleet Movements.
Copy ship designs to appropriate text files.
Add new ships and fleet movements to excel file.
Check to make sure that the moves were legal and adjust as necessary.
Redraw map with new fleets and draw on fleet movements.
Check for combat at overlapped fleeps at start of turn, any movement intersections, and end points.
Conduct combats in order.
Redraw map to remove moves made after combats.
Check for planet captures/abandons.
Calculate economy for each player.
Select random numbers for each player, look up which Major Arcana Tarot card that is. Look up what the heck the card is supposed to mean and determine an in game effect.
Copy and paste old post and edit as necessary.
All the while dealing with the random effects from cards still in effect.
The entire time I was thinking it'd be much faster if I just wrote a program to do this stuff automatically, but it still requires quite a bit of data input and would take some tricky designing to make it flexible enough.
Valkun: I knew all that crazy fresh GUMBY gold I sent you would assure my win. *wink*
I still stand on my offer to program up as much as possible.. Simple things like putting the cards in a table to have a random generator pick from can still save time, and output the text for cut + paste. I like to find things besides business needs to program! if I code another FTP verification job, I'll kill someone.
If everyone could be relied upon to submit in a specific format (Fleet name|square 1->square 2->square n) etc it should be possible to automatically parse these moves.
As for the small fleet tournament. I really think a new category of 'Energy' needs to be applied to weapons, modules, etc. This helps balance the frosch vs simply costing more points.
Oh.. can you *please* just put my fleet up against some of the other ones? I was really , really curious and waiting for the battles! I was ready to slowly roll over the galaxy!
Roundboy, most of the ships were of the Move Really Fast and Punch Like a Kitty variety. Although the Armored Scouts of CmdPrompt were surprisingly effective against other scouts, two Demeter Pod Launchers wrecks fast lightly armored ships quite effectively.
Goumindong, while I appreciate the effort, we have experience on our sides in regards to balance. Railguns are easily countered by the heavy use of aegis generators in most designs since they fire straight forward only. Hell, in the tournaments I've had some of my designs easily swat away battleships sporting twenty railguns. But feel free to join in, the more the merrier.
Right now, I'd say these are currently on the watchlist for rebalance:
Demeter Pod Launcher
Platform Fabricator
Gravity Beam(Has yet to be tested)
Point Defense (RoundBoy claims that they're buggy and going through shields)
Railguns: Stopped by shields, but the range lets them pick off weapon modules like a lancet beam. I have lost many a weapon just approaching a multi railgun ship.
Gravity Beam: I have yet to see the AI use it. Needs more testing.
Point beam: I have a few designs based on > 3 beams. And as long as they are still around (see point 1) I am absolutely devastating in medium short distance. Even against Ageis shields.
Platforms: things that make other things should cost a bunch.
Launchers: The game is paper rock scissors. To counter pods, you build flak guns and impeiders. It helps to have a well rounded ship rather then 10 railguns & shields only.
Perhaps we not only need to enforce the 2 per section rule, but size rules as well? The component must fit on the section you are putting it on... resizing allowed... this should balance it somewhat too..
Valkun: I know those ships were really light on the punch... I just wanted to see the total lopsided battle. i like the steamroller.

Same old rules we know and love. Three hundred points to create a fleet of ships, with each ship in the fleet worth between 20 and 100 points.
Send fleet information and ship files to Valkun via PM. I promise not to look at them so make sure your designs are valid.
