Zoey 101 Gets Knocked Up

Jamie Lynn, has told a US magazine she is pregnant at the age of 16.

Baby (Jamie Lynn) Spears, told OK! magazine the news was a shock to her and the baby's father, boyfriend Casey Aldridge.

She said she was 12 weeks into her pregnancy, and planned to raise her child in Louisiana for "a normal life".

Spears continued telling the magazine that she initially kept the news to herself after she learned of the pregnancy from an at-home test and subsequent visit to a doctor.

"I took two weeks to myself where I didn't tell anybody," she added.

"Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me."

Spears' mother, Lynne, added: "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."

So I'm kinda speechless. Which is surprising, because you would think that I would be pretty jaded by now. I don't want to just say "discuss" since it's against the rules, so I'm going to ask the following questions...

1) Seriously, WTF?

2) Will the writers for the show tie this into the storyline? Oh, wait, they're on strike.

3) Is this the end for Zoey 101?

4) They're called condoms.

5) Seriously, WTF?

With regards to the condom thing, who knows? Any number of issues that affect every teen similarly, like ignorance, or something related to stardom specifically, like a sense of invincibility or nonchalance. Wait...

As per the show... I can't imagine they'll try to keep it on the air. Nickelodeon is not a teen pregnancy type network. They're, at most, a "boyfriend wants to start kissing too early, but girlfriend says no (time isn't right)" kind of network.

    Zoey 101 is gone.

People who slow down to watch when there's an accident or have a police scanner in case there's a train wreck. I actually feel bad for that family.

I prefer to take my time to assert my moral high ground without contributing.

Alternatively, it's a discussion about teen pregnancy and corporate squeamishness in dealing with intimate issues.

This isn't exactly Jolie and Brad spent Saturday as T.G.I. Friday's. What did they order?

I think that after Britanny went crazy, they thought to themselves, "Well, at least we have one daughter who can still be a cash cow."

Now if only they could have sprung for birth control pills.

    The picture?

I thought I was within bounds. I linked it, and marked it nsfw. It wasn't horribly obscene. And humorous...

I actually thought I was being good about it. I screwed up before by not realizing that spoilered images are still rendered more in most browsers. At least I didn't do that.

I read about this in the elevator on the way up to the office today (hooray for LCDs everywhere) and I have to say that I am not surprised.

This may be a little "unPC" of me to say, but since I'm talking about white folks, I'm sure i'll get away with it.

Anyway, the Spears girls have shown to us, like many starlets before them, that making some one famous doesn't change who they are. Whether they're atthe top of the pop charts and on television, or still back home in a trailer park in Loussianna, they're going to be acting the exact same way.

As for why we should care, I think it says something about a failure within our society if we are able to raise people up out of the non-optimal conditions that they grew up in, in order to turn them into stars, but we spend so much time worrying about whether or not they go to T.G.I. Fridays that we forget to teach them about birth control.

I'm okay with this. The child will be provided for, and the parents are willingly taking responsibility.
The age is a little shocking but not the final litmus test for whether or not 'society has failed.'

Then that's settled. Maybe. There's always the chance the kid is more likely to get into horrible behaviors.

But someone has to be breeding to Paris Hiltons of tomorrow.

Still there's Nickelodeon. What might they do... why they should/shouldn't...

I'll bet there's a clause in her contract saying she can't get caught doing drugs and such, but Law and Order and the Practice would lead me to believe that you can't have a contract barring her from getting pregnant. :P She's 16, so they probably didn't even think about that...

That doesn't mean they can't cancel her show though, and claim one of a million other reasons. They could lay this off on the writers strike and get away with it if they wanted to, it's freaking Disney. You can't be a Jew or a Pregnant Teen and work for disney. It's like a rule....

I think it sucks a 16 year old got knocked up, but ya know, shit happens. At least she's in the position to actually be able to take care of it, and not like "take care of it...."

On one level, I care no more that she managed to get herself knocked up than I do any other random 16 year old who manages to do the same thing. At least this doesn't coincide with a video of the endeavor (which due to the age would be kiddy porn anyway, if I'm not mistaken) and the dad isn't 30 years old or something equally unfortunate. (that we know of... so far....)

But on the other hand, 'human' as it is or whatever, it does seem somewhat disappointing that even at the top end of the financial and opportunity spectrum, we can still have kids fucking up something as simple as birth control.

Then again, maybe this one will also be a blond starlet in the making, ensuring the Spears' domination of media across yet another generation?

Whatever, if anyone should be getting knocked up and having kids at sixteen it's rich people that are the daughter of rich stars. Why?

Because they actually have the financial backing to support the kid at that age.

Do we really need the super rich / mega consumers populating their ranks at increasing rates?

Surely the child will never go hungry (until an eating disorder sets in), but resources will likely be dedicated to said child to a sum that could feed a small African nation for years as well.

Having a child earlier in your life these days really has no bearing on how many children a woman is going to have over the course of her life. Women aren't baby factories these days.

Other than potentially cutting their own career short, I don't really see any issue with someone have a child at a younger age, assuming they can support them.

Having a child at 16 isn't really all that young in that grand scheme of humanity.
