Today is Thanatos' birthday. Don't forget to give him the birthday bumps!
Seriously though, how do you celebrate your birthday? How have you celebrated your birthday in the past? There must have been one party or event that sticks out in your mind as the best--why?
Last year, for my roomie's birthday, she wanted to go to the casino. She had never been but was developing an interest in blackjack, so wanted to go. A few of us got together and went and everyone had a blast. I think everyone won something, too, which helped everyone enjoy their time.
Now, it seems to me that there are different phases to birthday celebrations. There's the childish games and cake parties. You may do the movie or paintball thing, or bowling and whatnot as you get a bit older. After that you're into the bar-age celebrations, which can be wild and ridiculous. Things usually quiet down after that and can sometimes fade out and become non-events except for the milestone birthdays like 30 and 40, etc.
So what are you doing for your birthday this year? Did you go through the get ridiculously drunk because we can stage? Perhaps you're one of those who doesn't really draw attention to their birthday and just has a quiet dinner with friends? Have you ever planned an elaborate event for someone's 40th or something like that?
Basically, let's talk about birthday parties--the good, the bad, the upcomming?
[Edit]
It's not Than's birthday anymore, so the title has been changed.

'Twas all kinds of fun and I'm hoping it'll turn into something I do every year because I usually have pretty mellow birthdays.
I've had to be reminded of my last couple.
Aren't you in your early twenties? What's up with that?!
Are you a big-tittied woman?
Why were you getting harassed at Hooters?
The girls there do stuff when it's your birthday.
Like make you wear a cape made out of tinfoil that says "Super Awesome Birthday Cape" on the back.
Ooohhh.
:winky:
I may go out tonight or something, but I kinda doubt it.
Well, that's actually how I celebrate Valentine's Day, but it's not that much different.
Smile!

Hmm, I haven't had any really good friends in past years to do stuff with. I usually go out and have dinner with my family. A few years back I had a nice dinner, went and saw a concert alone, then spent the rest of the night writing a paper for class the next morning. I think the last thing I did with friends was go to a go kart/mini-golf/arcade type place. That was fun, me and two other people. That was in 1999. Oh sweet Jesus, that was almost a decade ago!

I haven't done anything particularly celebratory on or around my birthday since... probably highschool. The last birthday party I remember having is when I turned 16. I just don't really care anymore. As long as I get presents, it's all good.
We'll see how this year shapes up.
Actually, I did have drinks with some co-workers last year. I had forgotten. But I no longer work there.
Though I think this year involves drinking and sex.
that is terrifying.
I'm turning 20 in five months. Let's cry together.
I just turned 20...
Meh.
That pretty much sounds like my plan right there.
I'm not going to celebrate any birthdays on my own accord until I'm 60. Then I'm going to go wild.
The most recent birthday celebration was your classic "take the guy to the bar and buy him drinks" thing. Except this guy weighs a clean 400 lbs. I went home with a $98 bar tab and the makings of quite a hangover.
The next birthday that rolls around, I think I'm going to go with cupcakes from the grocery store.

Nat 20 birthday, hell yeah.
NERD
I take offense to that.
I'm clearly a geek.
15th birthday, I think: A 48 hour gaming FEST, D&D and Starcraft with all my best friends, and this one girl I was intensely attracted to. Also, boffer sword battling? Basically nonstop awesomeness.
17th birthday present - My mom told us that we had to go pick someone up at the airport, and that if we all went we could go to In-N-Out. So we all got in the car, went to go eat, went to the airport, and stood around waiting for the person to show up. The person does... with tickets to go see my long distance girlfriend and all my bags packed to go. Hooooly crap, that was kick ass. They put me on the plane right then and I was off. It was actually a week before my birthday, but wow they got me good. It was pretty awesome. The only shitty part was that the girl broke up with me about a week later -- a day or two around my birthday.
18th birthday - My mom paid for me to visit/prospie at Reed College. While I was on the plane flying up to Portland, OR, she made a post to the Reed College livejournal community (which evidentally a lot of people read) with a picture of me, the shirt I was wearing (a picture of Freud with the word REPRESENT over it), and my scooter, and she asked them to wish me happy birthday. Over the course of the weekend, about 100 people did, and I was basically instantly popular around campus. Honestly, I thought going into it that prosping for my 18th would be the nerdiest thing I could do. I was so wrong. I partied like crazy and had insane amounts of fun, and fortunately my mom had me taking the train back so I could sober up/become unfried after the weekend.
My 19th birthday kind of sucked, but I did get laid, which was a first for my birthdays.
