Leisure Suit Larry is back.... in the worst possible hands

Anyone see IGN's interview with Executive Producer John Melchior? He's making a new Leisure Suit Larry game. And from this interview I suspect the earth will open up and shallow us all for allowing it be:

http://pc.ign.com/articles/846/846123p1.html

I'll start by admitting something embarrassing: I enjoyed Magna Cum Laude. Granted I was playing it on my xbox through means that shalt not be spoken of, altered to remove the censor bars and unlock everything without playing quarters for hours on end. I thought it was kind of funny and I liked the art style.

That said, everyone else in the worlds hates it, and Sierra heard their cries. They've decided to go another direction. Shit is a direction right? Let's hear it from the horse's mouth:
Box Office Bust takes aim at Hollywood in a big way. When I sat down and thought about the best way to bring Larry back and bring him back in a way that is mass-market, relevant and funny there was only one target. Hollywood. When we think of off the wall ridiculous missions for Larry to fall into we couldn't beat what Britney, Lindsay and Paris were doing in real life, daily. So then we figured if anyone had it coming it's Hollywood.

How timely. This is an area that has never in the history of man been covered. By everyone. And your mom. And your grandma. Speaking of which:
From the first day we began to plan out this game and its mechanics we had one writer in mind. As soon as the prototype stage was complete we approached Allen Covert (Grandma's Boy) to pen the script.

Grandma's mother-fucking Boy? Did they actually see that movie? It wasn't a real movie. It was a hand full of dipshits who woke up on Adam Sandler's lawn and got to make a movie. Keep in mind that Rob Schneider is the most talented of Sandler's friends, which places these guys lower than that. There wasn't a moment in the whole movie that I wasn't offended on some deep spirtual level. And there was nothing funny in it. In fact I'm not convinced they filmed all the scenes with a script so much as a camera and a vague idea of where they wanted to go.

I whole heartedly state Grandma's Boy as the worst movie I've ever seen. And I've seen Uve Boll.

What other great things do you promise for the franchise John?
Yes, this game has been planned all along to hit the countries the last one was not able to get into. We removed all the Nudity which helped a lot and each territory will get a copy of the script before it is localized to ensure there is nothing that would prevent it from being released and so they can localize the humor for each territory.

......................So you're cutting out the main reason to play and you're inviting local governments to re-write anything they find offensive?

Alright, that's it. I'm done.

Does anyone else have anything to add? Anyone optimistic? Anyone want to reminisce of the good old days of Larry 4?

I have something to add to that OP:
    Shut up.
    Grandma's boy was funny.

At any rate, there are FAR worse movies, but naming them on this forum might get me impaled.
If you liked Battle Royale, Saw, Kill Bill or Hostel you belong in an asylum.

I'd have to agree with you. LSL4: The Missing Floppies is probably my second favorite after LSL7: Love for Sail. Love for Sail I still hold as the high watermark of the series and probably of Sierra adventure games in general (with King's Quest 6 not far behind.)

Too bad Sierra's huge library can't quite compete with the likes of Grim Fandango and Monkey Island, but oh well.

I will miss what Larry once was, and what he stood for. He was once a symbol of envelope-pushing game development. Now look at him. He's rated PG.

Back on topic: I'll have to agree on one thing, it is sad that Larry is becoming PG. I remember the jokes in the first Larry game, they were so stupid but oh so funny. Loved it.

No, no. Listen. I like fun. But Kill Bill isn't fun. Kill Bill is shit. Like, from a butt. The only thing good about the ENTIRE movie is its soundtrack. Everything else, and I do mean everything, sucks. I am still waiting for that HACK Tarantino to give me back my money for that movie ticket. This movie was horrible. In fact, I've never seen Pulp Fiction, but I know how everyone around the world and their mom loves it, how it's awesome, etc. I should totally watch it because it's totally lacking to my culture, but since it's from the guy who made *spit* Kill Bill, I refuse to watch it. Ever. I can't watch it. Why would I? It's by the guy who made Kill Bill!!!

I guess you got the point by now, I didn't really like that movie.

EDIT: Now, two things will happen. First, a bunch of people will damn me in the deepest levels of hell. Then, another bunch will lime some parts of my rant.

One out of four. I'd say you can like any two of those movies and still live a normal life. If you loved all four you're probably planning a murder spree right now.

Sometimes I wonder if I fell into an alternate dimension where everything is the same except Grandma's Boy was funny. I watched it in a college dorm with a dozen frat guys and beer. If ever there was a more conductive atmosphere to laugh at a raunchy comedy I don't know of it. No one laughed. In fact it felt downright uncomfortable in that room. Afterwards someone put on the 40 Year Old Virgin and everyone (including me) loved it.

I have absolutely no idea how anyone scraped any enjoyment out of Grandma's Boy and yet everyone I mention it to did.

Everyone on the internet thinks everything is the best or the worst. Most things are just average, and in some ways that is the worst thing to be.

Unfortunately, mediocrity is what it looks like this series is aspiring to.

    Godammit people, LEISURE SUIT LARRY.

Or as he should now be known, Largely Inoffensive Larry. Now I wouldn't say he's back in the worst possible hands -- unless Acclaim somehow manages to rise from its grave -- but this is definitely not a cool "reinterpretation" of the series. It's like...Bret Ratner getting ahold of X-Men 3. (there, I tied to movies. YOU HAPPY NOW?)

As was said earlier, Larry - gratuitous nudity - any chance whatsoever of vaguely offending = Pointless.

Well, I played the games mostly for the text humor. If the game is fun to play and as witty as the earlier games, then I'll be satisfied.
It won't be, of course. And to add insult to injury, it will be a tame and mild game in terms of offensiveness.

Larry was a man before his time. In a world where games were strictly "for the kiddez" Larry dared to show a few boobs in a mainstream title that you could buy anywhere computer games were sold. He was a sole beacon of raunchiness in the decades between Atari's porno games like Custer's Last Stand our new glorious age. Only now, with titles like God of War and Mass Effect can we finally have a tiny bit of partial nudity in a game that isn't hidden in the backroom with a sticky cover.

Larry, we salute you for bravely standing up for what's right.

Other than Larry I THINK he did Freddy Pharkas, Frontier Pharmacist (a game which I LOVED and has the catchiest opening tune ever), but that was before he hung up his gaming spurs, so to speak.

Since then, all I've heard out of him was disappointment and frustration with Sierra and the series as it has lived on without him (and rightfully so).

I loved the Larry Series, I have refused to play Magna cum laud and I will refuse to play this latest abortion as well. Al Lowe is a true legend, and they should have just let the series go.

I HATE the fact that they are removing all the bits of the game that make it so awesome in order to increase the target demographic. Its the same as movies, so many movies should have been 'R' rated and would have been better for it, but because it cuts down the number of ticket sales, they dumb it down. It infuriates me.

As for the violence in Kill Bill I have a collection of black and white asian kung fu movies made in the 70's where the blood and violence is pretty much identicle and it was this style of thing he was trying to capture I think and I recon he did a good job. If you dont like that kind of movie, then your really not going to like Kill Bill which is fair enough. But see Pulp Fiction and Reservior Dogs.

Grandmas Boy is absolute shit, maybe i didn't like it cause I dont smoke weed everyday of my life, but that too i think, is absolute shit.

And just as an aside, did you know that Hostel was based loosely on true events. The director made a documentary a while before Hostel about this place in Thailand you could go to and pay to shoot an American in the back of the head. Dont ask how much you had to pay, as I have no idea.

The difference between the four films listed earlier is that Kill Bill and Battle Royale, whether you liked them or not, were well-made satire, and Saw and Hostel weren't.
Judging Kill Bill Part 1 on its own is also a mistake, I might add. It only works in the context of part 2.
