Gravel doesn't seem insane from his wiki article I must have missed something here

Gravel's policies tend to be less crazy than some of the other fringe folk, but his discourse is a little crazy.

I spent some time today, while eating my lunch, reading up on Gravel.

The man has some excellent policies. The problem is, they are excellent policies that, in many cases, violate what a good portion of America sees as how the country should be run. Possibly not a majority, but certainly the vocal (and well-funded) minority. The social groups with exceedingly powerful lobby groups, and the large percentage of the population who are the most easily influenced into believing that some of these things are bad will prevent him from ever entering office.

Obama's policies tend towards the same skew, but the difference seems to be charisma and his ability to identify with the 'common American'. He is able to reverse what many of the lobby groups do simply because he is a genuinely likeable person, and when someone like him presents you with a dissenting opinion I would imagine it is far more likely that you will change your tune as opposed to someone who lacks his charisma.

Having said that, I tend to be very left in a lot of social issues anyways, so perhaps I am not the best judge as to how well either candidate can sway popular opinion.

I confused the test by a lot.

I somehow managed to get Clinton, Romney, Thompson.

One of those I'd vote for happily, one I'd probably only vote for if the other was the only other choice.

"The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into red states and blue states; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I've got news for them too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don't like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, we got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America."

Barack said that... What does he mean? He isn't saying what I think he's saying, is he?
