Ely, you just showed why I love this series.

So much depth for those looking for it (There's some insane videos of DMC3, specially the Royal Guard style) but still button mashy enough for regular folks like me to feel like a bad ass.

    Thanks. :D

If you can keep multiple things in mind at the same time at high speeds, you can play DMC at high levels too.

For example, learn jump canceling by doing a diagonal kick at something, then jumping the moment your foot touches the enemy. You will cancel out the recovery animation and jump off the guy. Now as soon as you do, kick again. Repeat. That's the basics.

Expand on that with weapon switching, move canceling (e.g. cancel a move into another move), and see how they mix together.

I'm actually not as big a fan of Royal Guard. I'm a Trickster guy myself. In general I want to play as DMC4 Dante with instant Style switching. We've estimated that Dante at full level will have access to over 40 moves (a conservative estimate, could go up to 55 or so at most) at any given moment. That's pretty insane either way.
One of my friends used her feminine wiles and got herself a copy tonight at Wal-Mart.

Stupid bitch wouldn't let me play it.

It's moments like this that I wish I had boobs and a feminine voice.

Somehow I don't think filling her dark soul with LIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT would get me to play the game any faster.

She was so fucking shameless about it too. Told me to go look at the PS3 games so he'd think she was single and was like "I realllly want this game even though it's not technically supposed to come out till Tuesday..." in the most flirtatious voice I've ever fucking heard. Then turned on the flirty eyes. Eventually the guy asked what version she wanted, PS3 or 360, and said he'd look in the back. Came back like "I looked through a ton of boxes but I was able to get you one!" and tried to scan it. Register wouldn't let him sell it early, so he got another game out of the case, scanned it, took the money and gave her DMC4. Said he would fix it in the system later. What the hell.

Case in point, I need boobs.

Awesome game. Unfortunately Capcom decided to split their focus across two discrete characters: Nero with Instant Rev, and Dante with Style switching.

1UP's video review did do a good job of conveying somewhat the depth of the game. For those interested, I and my band of hardcore DMC players made a combo video based on the DMC4 demo and were featured on 1UP! Imagine what the full game will be like. :D

P.S. People should really start to expect that DMC will always have a "wtf is that" weapon now. You think Pandora's Box turning into a tank is awesome, Lucifer makes Dante dances, claps, and clenches a rose in his teeth.

Also, lol@Nero grabbing Dante with his legs. Bow jigga wow woww~.

That's some really impressive stuff in that video. Nice job.

Where in Portland Oregon do ya live, exist? I used to live around the SW Portland area, then moved into West Linn. Unfortunately I am now on the east coast. :(

Urian: I got a chance to speak with the 1up guy, and apparently he hadn't even played any of the DMC's before he got word he had to review the game. To his credit, he played through every single one of them and posted that video. Too bad the gameplay in it still wasn't good. :P At least he tried!

Anyway boobs etc. I hope that guy got fired for selling her the game early.

Urian: much as I'd love to do that, at the end of the day, a video review explains to would-be buyers what makes a game fun. This generally means discussing and playing at a level that they can understand and replicate. I think it was a good idea for our high level play to not be the focus.

Jeffy: if some bimbo can flirt her way into getting the game early, stores clearly have it in stock. You likely don't have boobs, so I'd call around first thing Tuesday morning and find a store that has it.

Mr Grinch: I often make this comparison - if you like Smash Bros for the gameplay mechanic, you will likely also enjoy DMC. The same fundamentals are there - spacing, timing, chase-downs, lag canceling, and THE PRIDE OF TOTAL DOMINATION OF YOUR ENEMIES. It's incredibly sweet to casually stroll into a room, murder a dozen guys coming at you unscathed, then leave.

Italax: thanks! That was actually one of the few clips I recorded that made it into final production. Mine were the Berial fight and the combo right after it. Everything else was the rest of the folks.

A couple may, but there is no street date on the game. They're free to sell immediately upon receipt, and most stores won't receive until Wednesday. :|

    IGN's review is up.

    And did someone say leaderboards?
Regardless of the level you wind up playing the game on, you and your progress will be recorded on the game's leaderboards, which will rank every mission that you've played and the rating you receive. Not only can you check to see how you did across the various difficulty ratings, but you can also check to see how your score stacks up against the world's best as well as against those of your friends.

IGN claims that the PS3 version has better load times than the 360, up to three times as fast.

If the demo is any indication, they're probably full of shit because that was some fast fucking loading on the 360 demo.

The PS3 version will most likely dump a lot of data on the HD. The 360 demo is on your HD, that's why it's so fast. It probably won't read as fast from the DVD.

the ps3 version has a hard drive install where as the 360 version doesn't thats why the ps3 version loads faster

    also from Neogaf
Zero tearing in the PS3 version. It has vsync turned on and it temporarily switches to a locked 30fps mode if it can't keep up 60fps. But 99% of the time it is locked at 60fps.

The only version with tearing is the 360 version but it's supposed to be pretty minimal.

What exactly is "tearing"? I mean, I'm getting the PS3 version anyways, but I wouldn't mind a little more info to help me mock my friend for having a "shittier" version of the game.

I don't know the technical details but this is what it looks like. It happens alot more often in PC games then console games afaik aside from a few (God of War 2 stands out in my mind)

I believe it is caused by the framerate of the game being higher then the refresh rate of your moniter/tv.

    Actually, here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tearing

If you want a great example of it, play the R&C:F demo. (Atleast on the pre-order bonus disk version of it) the tearing was pretty bad, and thankfully was fixed in the final version.

The cheesy dialogue complaint holds no ground, I love Dante's smart-alec attitude. Same goes for Nero. I'd shit myself if I saw a gigantic fire demon such as Berial stomp up to me, Nero just scoffs.

I really hope I can get this tomorrow, but it's Canada, so I probably shouldn't get my hopes up.
