So my boy is just about done with Kindergarten now and I had the oddest realization today: when he's older he'll probably go skiing / snowboarding in the winter.
I have never been skiing. Despite being within a couple hours driving of two significant mountain ranges (Olympics to the west and Cascades to the east). Growing up going skiing (at least more than once or twice, and with equipment you own) was kind of the divider between the haves and have-nots. And I was the later (as were most of the people I knew).
Out in north kitsap if you were poor you couldn't even get a part time job while in High School to pay for it yourself. Because that meant owning a car which you sure as hell were not going to have. (there were no busses and it was a long bloody way to Poulsbo where the job opps in Pizza Delivery and Food Service were to be found)
Eh, I'm just rambling at this point. It's kind of hard to get across what a weird concept it is to me.
