So, upgrading academies above level 15 starts getting exorbitantly expensive. How high do people take theirs? There must be a point at which it's more cost effective to use crystal for research rather than further upgrades of the academy.

None of mine are even that high yet. I don't think there's really any desire to rush research, because once you get that high, all that's left pretty much is new units that may or may not be as good as the starter ones.

hmm, seems my empire has more or less stagnated due to my decreased ability to keep an eye on it.

How have you been maintaining your positions on the scoreboard?

oh and fuck that noise! 60 2/3 steam giants and now they're useless = /

Yeah all that's left to research are bombadiers and diving boats and placeholder technologies... at some point it might be worth taking them all off research.

Utopia is actually implemented and useful; +200 happiness and +200 pop max at your capital.

My own academies are all at 13 or 14; not planning on upgrading those any further at this point.

Edit: Those steam giants are still good attackers right now, particularly if the other person is also using steam giants or phalanx. Also, as soon as 0.2.5 goes live, they should become good defenders again.

Edit2: We're not "maintaining" our positions; we're still heading up. :)
Are you interested in joining us, leaving BRO? I'll make a slot for you if you want it.

You can grab the position from him, kick the guy, then give it back.

Edit: They fixed the ability for me to see everyone's resources. Hopefully, that means Kalkino can see military units again, as well, and we can actually shore up our weaknesses and organize some real military actions.

Yeah I can see yous all now. Much better forces now than last time I could look. We have a bunch of people with very large fleets/strike forces so I say we are as ready for a war as we ever have been

So what is the deal with our leadership? Has it been passed on due to the Solysp leaving? I must have missed this while being away.

EDIT - oh and Darian/devoir, if you want to do the honours for the new thread then by all means do so, you guys seemed to do a better job of it anyway

    Some thoughts:

Gyrocopters really aren't that great. SG's are better at defense and offense per upkeep, and cost the same amount of resources to build iirc. Like Dev said, once 0.2.5 goes live, you'll want SG's in all your bases when possible.

Academies: I have most of mine at L15/16, and it's still going to take me 7 days to do mortar ships. You should probably focus on hitting L20 towns first, but then it would be good to get those academies up...think about the future. Eventually the high end research will be implemented, and the folks with 5-6 L16 academies will demolish those without.

YAMI: These guys bug me. Let's wang them soon.

Yea, I really hope the same isn't true of the GOs, cause they basically have the "I win" button.

And yea, I was wondering why no one brought up the "no coords allowed" rule there.

Mods don't have a lot of power, but it's still kind of strange and unsettling.

If people are planning alliance-wide mercenary work, then I'd like to suggest that costs be set based not solely on scores, but on perceived ability to respond as well. Attacking a high-score, low-military target might be easy, but high general scores could suggest an ability to respond in future. Similarly, espionage and alliances.

Or at least, that's an easy way to justify higher costs. Distance should be taken into account as well, and I would strongly advise that confidentiality is at a premium, with perhaps several tiers, to avoid blowback.

What if this weren't a rhetorical question?

How much negative upkeep do you have with a military that size? Do you have resource gatherers/scientists at 100 percent ?

Wow, two sulfur. That's certainly a different approach.

I had sulfur production at about half capacity for the longest time, but I've had to crank it up with all my recent fisticuffs.

Not too worried about that guy, but there is a U_N with a 700k military in my vicinity.

I still don't expect much of a response.
