Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Engadget pointed me to this site which has some benchmarks for ATI's Radeon HD 4850. Now, the 4850 is the low end card in the series, and according to these benches gets similar performance to the 8800GT. I'm gonna take these benches with a grain of salt until I see another set confirming the scores/results, but if these are real, I'm imprsessed. The only thing that they were a little but worried about was that apparently the GPU gets really hot while gaming. While all GPU's do get hot, I'm not sure if this indicates that the 48x0 series will be hotter running than previous generations.
All in all, still interesting, and I can't wait to upgrade my 7800GT
They'd better have some good stuff in the high end of the range coming... It's only marginally better than the 8800GT and will cost 30% more? (and even more on the launch date when all the fanboys line up) Hmm....
i guess the question is, does it out perform the GTX solo or the G2X in crossfire?
from what i saw, no to the GTX and maybe to the G2X
of course you can get a G2X for ~450 and 2 4850s will run you at least 400
i dont know that im too impressed really...
In the real world, few people care about absolute performance. The 4850 costs two hundred dollars; of course it's not going to outperform the six hundred dollar GTX280.
The GeForce 9800 GTX+ takes the highly efficient G92-based GeForce 9800 GTX and offers unbeatable value for value conscious gamers.
Key product points: • GeForce 9800 GTX+ is the best single card price/performance at $229; the original GeForce 9800 GTX will transition to $199
• Processor clock of 1836MHz and graphics clock of 738MHz
• GeForce PhysX support! World’s only physics API for both the CPU and the GPU!
• Support for CUDA-based applications, including Folding@Home and Badaboom video transcoding applications.
• Support for 2-way and 3-way SLI
What will this do to the price of, say, the 9600 (or the 3870)? Might be time for an upgrade after all, even after I swore off PC gaming. (I loves me some good RTS).
Man, a 9800GTX is like $350-$400 here in Australia.
Nvidia will be doing major price cuts in answer to the ATI 4750 and 4780. There also releasing the 9800gtx+, which by the looks of the benchmarks looks pretty cool. But I'm gonna wait untill some of the sites I normally visit do there stuff

Find a way to buy from the US. I mean, there's no excuse, the Aussie dollar is worth 95 cents American. Between shipping and exchange fees you'd still come out way ahead.
ya, the 4870 looks like it's gonna be a great price/performance card. It has the same performance as the GTX 260 for $100 less. Yes please. I'm gonna order a 4870 for sure.

How well would two do, crossfired?
This is important information... for... people.
That's weird, I'm seeing $270 for the 9800GTX on Newegg, and the 4850 is a good $70 cheaper than that.
I'm with you. the 4850 has a huge advantage in price.
Hell, even if the 4870 is too much for my blood, I'd still strongly consider the 4850 over the 8800GT, just because of newer technology.
Nvidia just dropped MSRP on the 65nm 9800GTX to $200 US, and releasing the 55nm 9800GTX+ at $230.

This morning Newegg's sister site ZipZoomFly had the 9800GTX for $165 after rebate and the 8800GT 512MB for $100 after rebate.
And considering the 9600GT MSRPs for less than the 8800GT, I don't think there'll be deals around $75 before summer ends.
Hmm. Midrange gaming PC, or EEE901? Decisions, decisions.
